Double-edged sword this, i feel. It's absolutely right that Prem Rugby have acted firmly against teams that break the rules (are you watching, football?), but on the other hand, our hopes of seeing the insects get relegated and go bust have gone down the toilet.

For now, yes...but in the long term it’s not going to be sustainable for them.

What a twat Andy Goode is. Tweeting away about financially bankrupt saracans should be booted out of Rugby. Yeah Andy how’s the £55m debt going at your former club

Agree to a certain extent but now they have set a dangerous precedent which they will struggle to water down if others get caught doing similar. Thought the first penalty was enough to be honest

For systematic cheating over several years?
The penalty applied only covered their actions of last season, ignoring several others going back to the previous time they were caught out for it.
They are going to be way over the cap this season too.
Just no!

Was previous three seasons, if i remember the reports correctly.
But the issue of Sarries players still being selected by England when playing in the Champ, you have to say that would be a daft default position for Eddie Jones & Co to take. With the greatest respect to teams in the Champ (especially Cov), there is no way that they will provide the same level of opposition to Sarries as those in the top flight, and no matter how much they waltz the league next season, they will be off the pace with regard to test rugby.

I would imagine parasites like wasps will be thinking this is a good opportunity to improve their playing staff

Has anything happened with their training yet, all gone very quiet on the Henly front unless I have missed anything. Will it be ready for next season?

According to the rugby fans at my work the other clubs refused to take players off them. As the league also wouldn't allow them to pay off players contracts to get them off the wage bill it was pretty much impossible for them to get under the cap in the period of time allowed.

But know they are relegated has that changed as the bottom feeders like wasps are now safe?

We don't know that for certain (although it seems likely) as there is noise about relegating the lowest placed 'other' side too so as to at least retain a modicum of competition at the bottom.
Personally doubt it, but it would fit with Cornish Pirates' recent announcement that they intend to bring their Mennaye Ground up to Prem standards sharpish.
Maybe they know something?
If so, Ealing aren't going to have it all their own way in the scrap for the second promotion spot!

It would make sense in a sporting sense but it creates a promotion problem the year after as only one could return.

Can’t see Saracens not going to CAS about this, especially given the context that it was impossible for them to get out of the situation.

Speaking to the guys at my head office today who are rugby nuts they are convinced they're going to jump ship to another league without restrictions in place and that Bath, who apparently have objected to the cap before, and one other (Leicester was mentioned) could join them.

Said there would be a short term hit on the current TV contract but when its time to renew the league they join would bring in way more as it would cover multiple countries and would now be considered the top league. Leaving the Premiership in a bit of a mess as they'd be down to 10 or fewer teams, depending what they did with relegation, with not many potential candidates to take the step up and compete.

Would be funny if the likes of Wasps have voted to kick them out of the division to ensure they aren't relegated themselves only for the league to collapse like a house of cards.

Cant see that happening Dave. I might be wrong but it I think it would be unlikely.

Effectively if they moved to another league, they would have to pay back all the cash to CVC, unless they moved to the Pro 14 which is owned by CVC, but then the Pro14 is made up with clubs that aren't on the whole cash rich, bar a few, I cant see them wanting three cash rich English clubs joining the league to dominate. Couple in the fact that it may have implications on Six Nations availability for their England players, then it may not be a popular move.
The French league also has a salary cap, so cant see it being there either.

Aside from this, I am quite glad Wasps aren't going to go down this season. They are skint, something I have repeatedly alluded to over the past few years. They are losing all their best players, crowds are dwindling and results are poor. If they don't go down this year, they don't have a chance of coming straight back up and galvanising and so hopefully they will remain poor and pretty rock bottom for at least another season, crowds will further drop and hopefully they will look at the balance sheet and decide to go back from where they came from.

I know next to nothing about rugby but figured it was worth a post as its come from people knowledge on the game with contacts at one of the Premiership clubs not mentioned as potential departures.

Think the international thing only works if the majority support it. Looking at the three clubs that were mentioned that would take half the England squad out of contention. Is the talent pool strong enough to withstand that?

Besides from what was said today CVC are looking to take a stake in international rugby as well. Think anyone who is under the impression CVC will be doing this as anything other than a money making exercise and serving their own interests obviously hasn't looked at what they did in F1 and how they left it when they cashed out.

Very true about CVC Dave.

I love CCFC and football first and foremost, but do enjoy watching Rugby, and try to keep up to date with what's going on.

On that front, there is a very interesting article on the BBC sport website by Tom Fordyce who paints a very stark view on CVC, with a quote about their involvement in Formula One, suggesting they put little in and tried to extract every penny they could out. Rugby should beware.
From our point of view, I think its good news re Wasps as I think they took a punt, and it is going to fail spectacularly.

The 2020 events schedule on the Ricoh website looks bleak to say the least, is it normal at this stage of the year? They have the two big concerts in the summer but not a lot else. Hardly think 20 dead rubber rugby fixtures are going to address a £12m profitability gap.

I mentioned that the other week, it really is bleak, looks like the events calendar for a local community centre, not an apparently premier exhibition centre.

Not that it matters much anymore (as Sarries appear to be the only team facing automatic relegation), but the insects managed to scrape a win against an extremely mediocre Worcester side. I was there as unable to get a City ticket. Big crowd (not far off their 12K capacity), with quite a few W*sps fans.
Worcester had chances to win it in the last couple of minutes, but got over-excited and gave away two penalties from good attacking positions when it was easier to score!

Dai Young gone, strange timing 4 days before a big match against what would have been relegation rivals Leicester. they've not had a game for 2 weeks so why do it now, unrest behind the scenes?

I’ve got bugger all time for Wasps, but Dai Young comes across as a thoroughly decent bloke and I wish him well.

There are more than a few football managers (I’m thinking Steve Evans here), who could learn a bit about how to conduct themselves from him - a rock-hard competitor who can show a bit of grace and humour win or lose.

Has anybody heard that wasps own the rowleys green club and are going to turn it into a supporters club? Another place to avoid and I can’t see it being a money spinner apart from a few days a year, but a nice bit of land if they knock it down to build houses in after it fails.

Absolutely. I have absolutely no time for Wasps, but Dai Young is a top bloke. I can only wish him well - and there may be a suitable vacancy for him at Cov should he fancy a proper job...
