I really don’t know the breakdown of people across the stadium, all I can tell you is that where I sit there are more season ticket holders from the midlands than from other parts of the country. Don’t overlook that over the years many long standing Wasps supporters come from all over the country not just London. People move on in life but they still support Wasps. I’m sure that could be said of CCFC also. I have friends who supported Wasps at Wycombe but live nearer Cov, they used to travel down.

Season ticket sales I assume are very low - I’ve never seen anything published

One thing I am pretty sure is is Mr Eastwood in an interview after being here for a few months claimed 94% were from CV postcodes which as with everything Nick says needs to be taken with an ocean of salt

Vaughan stopped the free tickets

If you heard the crap wasps fans spouted about us when we were on our knees and how they’re the heroes in all this you’d be cynical too

Good question, as far as I’m aware the freebies have largely stopped, I doubt completely though. As with any sport attendances will go up and down with success and you will always have a core of supporters who will go rain or shine. If 8k is the core support so be it.

Which if that is the case means the whole venture has been somewhat pointless and expensive doesn’t it

Does lower case k mean thousand? If so, the ticket counters are either deluded or intentionally misleading.

Expensive yes it would seem that way……. Pointless I would disagree, 8,000 can still enjoy watching Wasps play rugby and the club still exists so not pointless to me.

agree there is a significant financial issue nobody denies that ….. I’m not familiar with other media outlets locally ….. are you suggesting that all the media outlets are collaborating for a news blackout ?

'other media outlets locally' makes it sound like there's a lot of options. The reality is its the Telegraph and CWR and they've always sung from the same hymn sheet regarding both Wasps and SISU.

Surely your argument that the facts are out there if people look for them and therefore don't need reporting doesn't really hold up, that's essentially what news is, reporting the facts. Its the same bizarre argument Simon Gilbert has used in the past when certain things involving the councils role in this sage weren't reported.

And of course the 'it's not of local interest' argument doesn't really hold given the number of rehashed press releases local media have pushed as news. Is a new bar at the Ricoh more newsworthy than Wasps defaulting on a £35m debt? What about Bridge's article about a major company moving their offices to the Ricoh that never actually materialised.

The simple fact is the slightest issue with the football clubs accounts and the local media can't get enough of it, but with Wasps there's total silence, not just silence but if anyone questions why they get no answer and get blocked by the local journalists who should be covering the story.

Which then leads us back to the sustainability question and probably the reason why the bonds haven't been paid yet

The bluster when you moved in was that wasps were going to be the biggest club in Europe which I guess all the financials for the move were based around, as that hasn't happened there has to be serious questions around it as a going concern which should be being asked by the local media and it isn't which is the issue I have with it all

When the football club was in this bad of a shape the local press was all over it, the issue I have are is why it isn't happening to the London rugby team who play in our city

Unless something changed though it’s totally unsustainable

The loan has always been the Achilles heel. The funding debt has got worse - Richardson is owed more money - and losses are averaging £10 million a year

It’s now admitted renewed funding has to be from more than one source and the stadium will need significant repairs and maintenance - how is the business sustainable

I accept Bobby Bridge isn’t reporting it ….. I’m not defending it ….. for what ever reason one guy stays silent. ….. Is there only one journo at the paper ? Surely if it’s of that much significant interest another journo would pick it up ? ….. much like the national press who have political leanings they pick and choose stories to suit their own ends. That’s life unfortunately

It isn’t short term, because we’ve somehow dragged ourselves back to the Championship where the finances somewhat hold.

in 9 years time, we’re going to be at the behest of whichever private party owns the Ricoh who will be closely watching our balance sheet

That’s your view …… there are businesses that are seemingly far more unsustainable that roll on for years. Reality is none of us know what will happen. Right now Wasps are still here until we are told otherwise the rest is speculation

It would have been at the start as the shiny new council toy arrived and sponsors moved.

You are right on the stadium it is a money pit and I could never understand the obsession with owning it.

No business does unless it has a backer than can constantly fund such losses

He's the telegraph's wasps reporter so he should be on it, but I guess if he writes something negative he might lose his free shirts

Council leader Ann Lucas, said the Labour party insisted on three ‘deal-breakers’ before agreeing to back the move.

She said it must allow continued regeneration of the north east of the city, allow Coventry City FC to remain at the stadium and must not disadvantage the city’s existing rugby team - Coventry Rugby Club.

Wasps' £20m Ricoh Arena takeover deal approved unanimously by CCC

Premiership rugby club have been given the green light to complete a 100 per cent takeover of the stadium
www.coventrytelegraph.net

1. Where has there been continued regeneration in the North East of the City?

2. Was CCFC allowed to remain at the Arena?

3. Has the move by London Wasps disadvantaged the local rugby club?

---

Ann Lucas, the woman with the reverse Midas touch. Cause everything she touched as leader of CCC has gradually turned to shit.

But surely if it’s that much of a local scandal then other journos would be on it, the general feeling here is it’s beyond the sports pages so why aren’t the others covering it ? Or perhaps tbe Cov telegraph is a one man show …. I genuinely don’t know.

8k a week?

We had more in there in the lowest rung of the ladder and our attendances were often given as 6/7k

If there are more than 3k paying customers watching the insects then my uncles got a fanny

I assume you attend Wasps games to see the attendances every home game ? Many are not televised.

The issue is though rugby is a fairly limited sport for financial backing of that magnitude - it doesn’t have global brand appeal

Certainly not sustainable on the quoted 8000. The 8000 that continues to dwindle and will be less than 5000 soon enough.

It can only be 8k if the travelling team bring decent support, looking at the images posted from the Wasps’ recent home games, there are only 4-6k in attendance. Wasps fans forget that we know what 8k looks like, we had those numbers in the bottom rung of the league, not vying for Europe in the top flight of Rugby Union.
Wasps are done; I feel sorry for the fans that supported them prior to the move here, but any locals can fester in their own misery when it goes belly up, especially those that gloated over our situation and have been equally as dismissive of Cov Rugby’s plight. Dicks.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the more local “fans” didn’t particularly care, and just move on to the next fad.
