Been wondering since McGoldrick left, was he the only reason we were playing so well and that Robins really looked so good. Leon was starting to cause defences a lot of trouble, before his injury. Now we really have to give the kids and Presley the chance they deserve. Perhaps we need to drop the one up front, could the boring football with a lone striker be the reason for such low gates

Interesting question - especially as Carsley maintained much of Robins' form whilst using his team. Early indications are that we are falling away under Elvis (still got 50% win ratio on paper), but also towards the end of the MR tenure we were losing our prime form.

At thr risk of incurring the wrath of the Thorn haters (not that I care), I'd argue that the team MR inherited wasn't bad at all - the Shaw era was actually an unrepresentative sample - clearly he didn't know what he was doing. So MR inherited a team that was better than it seemed.

I think mcgoldrick was a massive influence during robins tenure, but I wouldn't go as far as psgm1 and say our form was all down to him. Also fair play to Clarke, he had big boots to fill and did a good job, shame he needed the op.

He was spoilt having McG on our books, but one player doesn't make the team. He was part of a squad who linked up well, scored goals, and created goals for each other.

I think Robins was part of the jigsaw for sure

It's easy to identify a "Thorn-Robins era" whereby our fortunes on the pitch began to rise. This coincided with the removal of Deluded as chairman and the reduction of operating losses - that era of stability and improvement was blown away when MR fucked off and when SISU decided to press the self-destruct button.

I have high hopes for Elvis but I hope he likes a challenge! I will not be impressed if he scarpers back off to Scotland when/if he gets offered the Hearts job.

He's a decent manager at a Championship/League One level and better than anyone else we've had since John Sillett.

Inherited one of the best squads in this division.
Made 6 signings 3 of which were quality and improved the squad even more.

Good manager not amazing did what this squad should have been doing.

Looked even better as took over a squad who were IMO pissed off after the manager who signed them was sacked and did not have faith in Shaw.

We may not of had a season of 5 managers and may have been still in with a shout of the play offs despite a ten point deduction.

That is not to say AT is better than MR.

It is just I feel this squad with MR or AT all season would have been in the play offs comfortably.

How we can even question that Robins wasn't a good manager is beyond me. I was thoroughly impressed with his media handling, which is the biggest impact on the fans. He made good signings in Moussa, Bailey and Leon Clarke and had the team playing some of the best football since 2001. I could go into unnecessary detail but to coin an age-old cliche: he talked the talk and walked the walk.

Good manager didn't find out if he could finish the job though. Think he jumped cause embargo coming and no guarantee wouldn't last till next season started
