Finding himself a new club as we speak? Or did I miss the injury? If he can't get in the squad when O'Hare's out and he is actually fit, it doesn't bode well for his first team chances...

I'm sure I read he picked up a little injury in pre season

I hope for his sake he still has it(!) I know I shouldn't listen to local media, but...

Ex-Sunderland striker Martyn Waghorn set to return to Wearside with Coventry

Coventry boss Mark Robins expects Martyn Waghorn to be fit for Sunday's game at the Stadium of Light
www.chroniclelive.co.uk

If Dabo can get on the subs bench when carrying an injury as they claimed on commentary (although tbf I doubt that too, and he looked alright when he came on!), if Waghorn can't, and Tavares and Walker did alright when coming on, it knocks him down to 5th choice, dunnit?

I thought he got a knock, and missed training at start of week

I wouldn't read too much into his absence.

Going off believers comments it was Walker who was told to do that, I don’t think they were planning for him to be on the bench today

Bidwell was on 50k a week on the other thread, which is it?

Can’t see him improving on what we’ve seen so far at his age and for me Walker and Tav are ahead of him up top. If we need a back up, back up 10 I’d rather see Bapaga given a run.

Well people can indulge in their fantasies about who they want to come and go. Fans would change the team unrealistically every 5 minutes if they had their way.

The reality is we have to work with what we have got and get the best out of them. That is why the person in charge is called a manager - manage with the resources available.

If players move on they move on. If they dont they dont.

There is only a certain amount of control the manager has over that.

Bapaga? Jesus christ. Done nothing to warrant a chance and bombed at grimsby

As a back up to Allen, who is back up to Palmer, who is back to COH in the number 10 role versus Waghorn in that position.

I’m clearly in a minority. Yes, everyone should be disappointed with how last season went for him. However he has pedigree and is not an “out and out striker”. With COH out, I’d start him over Godden for a few games. Think him and Gyok make a better partnership.
Out of him, Walker and Godden- he’s got the best attributes to fit our system without COH in the squad.
Also, he HAS to be better than last year, doesn’t he?!
If after 3-4 games, he still isn’t performing- then bomb him out (maybe easier said than done!).

I think in a perfect world waghorn, walker and kane would be out by now and some others brought in.

I'm desperate for walker to do well, he showed bits today, strength and some good headers. Waghorn is the wrong side of 30 and has scored what, 4 competitive goals in two seasons now?

I think Tavaras will be above Waghorne in the pecking order soon (if he isn't already) I even think he could play Ohares role if required.

The only reason Waghorn may get any look in is because he's on a high wage. He's too slow, too fat doesn't score goals and nowhere near mobile enough for the championship.

He was a very good player in his day, but he looks past it now.

Waghorn is a decent bloke and a good squad player. He has had a bit of a torrid time for a few seasons, and his pedigree has slumped somewhat. His age is against him, but his experience is with him. I do think the real problem is he was bought as cover in the first instance and frankly does not have the pace or energy to fit our playing style. It would be best for him, to perhaps drop a league at this stage and join say Portsmouth or the like, where he may spark a good end to his career. I wish him well.

There is no way he was bought in as cover, he was last season’s marquee signing and the highest paid player.

I think that's it
He started well then lost his place after a minor injury
Relationships deteriorated after that
He's a decent bloke but the Gaffer always need to prevail

Gather he will be moved on along with Kane to free up wages for a few more signings?

Calling him fat - given that all posters taking that line are probably total messes physically - when he's clearly actually in good shape, is a f*cking joke. Why make the effort to type it?

P*ss off and be a glory supporter somewhere else if you can't handle the odd player being underwhelming - or a signing not working out - without chucking around insults.

It's not fucking meant to be constructive!

Look at the work Walker and Tavares have done in pre season, that's the reason Waghorn is 5th choice striker. In short, he's been left behind, and needs to drop down a league if he wants games,
Unfortunately I fear that at his age he'll just look to pick up his wage and sit out his contract.

I can't blame him for taking the money and moving here, but for me it was an ill advised signing.

was kinda thinking the same regards Tavares playing the O'hare role, or let godden play there and Tavares alongside vik, but i do feel Tav could play there

Can't see Tavares as a number 10 personally.

Waghorn - underwhelming yes, fat definitely not.

I was impressed with his movement and pace yesterday, he certainly looked ready for more first team action, and looks a great option to have on the bench.
We could do a lot worse than trying him as a number 10 in the cup game.

I dont want to get carried away, but It would be great if O'hares potential replacement is already in the building.

With the greatest respect after the Walker debacle I don't think Portsmouth would want to take in another of our 'misfit' strikers

He’s not 5th choice and it’s nothing to do with not putting work in - if you read Robins comments they were hoping for his injury to be cleared up, that obviously never materialised so Walker/Tavares came in on the bench.

I was debating whether that or Tavares as the 10 like others have suggested was the most outlandish.

Godden, because at least we've seen enough of him to know just how mental an idea it is without any doubt whatsoever!
