According to “The Boddster” (Boddy) he reckons that Champ wages average around 15-20k a week rather than the £3k in League 1.
I’m assuming that our current squad (retained) will all get sizeable wage increases?
We might see some upgrades in the Ryton car park -
My guess is that Dabo will turn up in a new Range Rover (Reg DAB 007) - Jamie Allen in a Aston Martin (with booster seat) & Wesley Jabba “the Hut” Bellow In some sort of mobile Health care vehicle!

I saw something yesterday - not sure if on twitter or on here - showing average player wages by club in the Championship for the season before last, and most were in the teens of K per week, with the exception of Rotherham who were at 3k. I imagine we'll be at that sort of level, or we'll be screwed if we come straight back down, and all the work and sacrifice that took us closer to self sustainability will have been for nought.

On the other hand £3k/week wages is guaranteed relegation and probably lose Robins and we have another ten years of the new Andy Thorn and finishing 17th to look forward to.

Imagine St Andrews when we aren’t winning the league.

We’ve probably gone up too soon with the ground issue, but we’d be mad not to grasp the opportunity IMHO.

Jesus I’d run around like a League One Deliveroo driver on speed for 3 grand a week!!
I don’t even want to say what I would do for the £20 grand a week touted around the Championship!

You cant really say we got promoted to soon, you have to seize the opportunity. Looking at the way Premiership Rugby seems to be imploding and some championship football teams could be in trouble we may have been promoted at just the right time. Time will tell of course!

If our average wage is £3k a week and we now get treble what we did in tv and other monies can’t we treble our budget ?

I think you will find 80% of Championship teams are in the shit in a big way and beyond their limits by a long way. Players on massive wages on long term contracts.
Readings wage bill was something like £30M ffs. Lets just improve wisely as the corona virus has highlighted the money clubs are paying beyond their means.

This - a lot of Championship sides will be slashing the size of their squads, and players who have their contracts ending (normally a good thing for the player) will be in for a rude awakening when it comes to wage negotiations with a new or existing club. For me it gives us an extra advantage, coupled with BCD / reduced crowds further hitting those with pre-existing costs that they can't lose. Our low cost base gives us a handy advantage.

I'd imagine our players will be on promotion bonuses rather than wage increases... The club wouldn't increase 25 wages based on promotion... I think this puts us in a great position to be able to get some real gems on 5-8k a week and still be financially sustainable...
They will re negotiate current player contracts upon them coming to an end or in the next 12 months during the campaign if agents get twitchy

Fully agree, it’s going to be very different to the norm, once these Play offs are over shit will really hit the fan with a lot of championship clubs, going to be very interesting.

Yea I don't think it would be too far wrong one way or the other..

Let's say our wage bill is 3 mill (have no idea but it doesn't matter) paying a player 8,000 a week will add around £420000 to the wage bill alone, so the club really have to try and find some gems we have no choice, I could see them offering o hare somewhere in that region

Nearly all player contracts have wages set out based on league the club are in.
Eg 10k championship :2.5k lge one :1.5k lge 2

I would have thought all wages will increase for players in the first team squad. As we are not paying as high as others obviously we will still need to find a common denomiator for that players who realise they have a chance to consolidate themselves in the championship, but by no means can'tbe ignored as they are now championship players. For us I think the figure will start around 4 to 4.5k a week and top earner 6 to 7k a week. Roughly 200 o 350k a year. That's cheap for championship players. If they stay up and remain their next contract will have to be significantly higher still obviously or their agent will be finding them a new club! I also imagine MR's would have a significant pay rise.

Most contracts have a clause to automatically double as they head into the league above. That will swallow a huge chunk of budget before we even think about signing anyone else. We'll still be in the free and loan market, but a league up and on an upward trajectory we should get better pickings tgan previous (eg Dujon at Wigan last season a year stronger and more experienced after a stint with us). Hopefully Adi will get further up the pecking order with Chelsea loans again.

I'd still like us to bring in a wage system based around % of income, which would reflect the league we're in and see player wages rise/fall automatically accordingly thus giving the club better long term security. Most companies use a pay grade system so why shouldn't football, rather than individual player agents negotiating and potentially causing animosity as teammates get paid more for doing the same/less. Add bonuses on based on game time over a season.

Obviously the agents and some players would resist coming here but I think that would just prove they're after the money and would we really want them anyway in that case?
