Not having seen the game, I'll give them all 5 except our goal-scorer who I'll give 8. Ok, scratch that, we didn't score.

The bad thing is that nobody had a particularly bad game. Yes the full backs could have pushed forward a bit more but they were all ok with the exception of Bigi who was by far and away the best player on the pitch.
If the players are playing ok then the problem has to be with the formation. 352 isn't working and we needto change quickly.

Cook 6 - could he have saved the second? Not seen it but at first thought he had
Willis 6 - generally got to a lot but vanished for the 2ND
Harries 5,- got dragged out of position a lot second half, first goal he gave his man too much time, great composure on the ball though
Turnbull 7. - looks a good signing, tried to get us going second half
Sterry 6 - had one of our only shots and offered more than Page, not great mind
Page 5 - poor, numerous poor crosses
McCann 6 - must say we lacked shape and discipline when he went off
Gazdhev 5 - seems off the pace, not having any effect of the game
Bigi 7.5 MoM - excellent today, loads of tackling, tigerish pressing, r veryetained possession well
Sordell 4 - poor decision making twice from him led directly to their goals. Of course not his fault entirely but he's civic fucked in this system tbf.
Agyei 6 - the only real goal threat

General thoughts:

1. The players we have can't play this system
2.,We need to move the ball forward quickly but at can't due to (1)
3. Sordell looks devoid of confidence and by should've been withdrawn
4. Wright not impressive (to the extent that he should be ahead of Thomas)
5. Wing back loanees offer defensive solidarity ahead of attacking flair of our own players
6. Gazdhev not up with the pace of the game yet, it's passing him by and Stevenson was better when he came on
7. We were once again well on top when they scored their first. Individual errors, both times Sordell needlessly lost it but defensive cover too found wandering. The first goal especially.

Glad to hear that Bigi had a good game!

Was Sordell playing too wide again?

Yes but then he (Sordell) was dreadful on the ball, poor decision making but that's the lot of a striker lacking in confidence. I don't see how he or others fit the system. Last season's maybe

When I have seen him, he is always stuck out wide and not really where you would see a poacher or a goal scorer. He doesn't then make many runs in at the far post, he looks really lost in that position.

Was Gadzev more in the middle today and then Agyei and Sordell either side?

Its the shite formation. Mowbray needs to change it but is too stubborn. Even in pre season the 3 up front the 2 wider ones were too wide and often in the area of the field where you'd want your wing backs attacking. Last season we attacked mainly with just the front 4, it seems even less attacking this season. We actually have wingers, he should go back to basics and try 442 or 4231.

I agree stu. Bizarre how Reid is suddenly out of favour too.

What I don't get though, is what is the positioning meant to be when a cross gets put in? Who is meant to be in the box to get onto the end of it?

A lot of the time the midfield gets bypassed, some of our best attacks have been started by a defender putting it to the feet of the strikers and them turning and running at the defence.

It's a defensive formation, the wing backs starting position is 10-20 yards behind where it should be, hence the 'wide' strikers end up occupying space where you'd like to see the WING backs. Both wing backs currently play like full backs.

Haynes has been the only one to get truly forward, the thing is with that is he puts a cross in and there is only ever 1 person in there. When people like Sordell should be breaking their back to get in there as well.

To be fair Nick Turnbull loves to get forward and is clever and effetive when he does, he just needs to not leave the back line so exposed when he does

But why does it take a centre half and not our centre mids? Rose was another one who made runs. At RWB he was always creeping in.

Completely true, I'm afraid that without harping on it comes down to tactics or the lack of them with TM

Or players not being switched on and thinking or just not taking responsibility.

I think we've left ourselves short in centre midfield.
Ghadzhev has been unimpressive nearly every time I've seen him, McCann seems decent enough but hes just one player and gone in January.

Then after that we've got bigi, Stevenson, finch and Lawton. I'm not sure we can rely on any of them for a full season.
