It was claimed on here and that he’d be the natural successor to MR. Fortunately, neither of them are likely to happen.

I've heard a rumour tonight that this IS due to the new performance director but it's got nothing to do with his performance in the job as such.

There was an incident a few days ago when Doug took the management team to Wing Wahs and after a few beers AV leaned in and asked her if she would like him to give her a California Hot Plate.

That went down like a lead balloon and it was only going to go one way after that.

Haven’t read through all the posts but certainly a bolt from the blue! Hope fans that slagged Boateng off and called him a judus when he left for a bigger club to advance his career ( faux Villa rivalry thing) can somehow loosen that noose around his neck.

No one has said that…..

Is it really that fanciful that she may have said to Mark and Doug that she finds Adi less open to her methods than is ideal, or that players have talked to her about the challenges they have with Adi and his style. IF she has positioned Adi as a barrier to future modernisation of the club then she won’t have made the decision but she will have materially influenced it ….

It might be that Robins spoke to Adi about his style and Adi made it clear that he wasn’t open to materially altering it ….

Yes - you'll note I changed 'fanciful' to 'unsupported' while you were writing your reply as it wasn't quite the right word. But you're working back from the conclusion it is her fault because ~ why? Is that more feasible than him falling out with Robins or the players, Doug, Dean Austin?

You expressed agreement with a comment that stated she was 'calling the shots'. My point is just a) that there is no evidence supporting that and b) she is not the CEO, her role is primarily to make sure that players are in peak condition physically and mentally for games.

This came as quite a shock today.

I think this review has been instigated by DK in his mission to modernise the club, and put it under the remit of Roberts to sort it though I'm sure (or at least I hope I am) that MR was fully involved in the review and had final say on the changes.

AV dis seem quite old school and probably wouldn't impress the likes of Dr Roberts even though his approach can be beneficial. But we have our new coaches so best of luck to them and let's see what their methods produce.

It's a massive change that could either really push us on or scupper everything that's happened over the last 7-8 years. Lets hope it's the former.

Meanwhile, best of luck to AV and thanks for everything. And why has no-one posted the pitch invader video yet?

However, one thing I can't quite get is during this review how come the GK coach is still there? All of our GK's seem to get steadily worse for the last few years.

Totally unsupported …. Just a speculative theory.

I’m not convinced Adi leaving is a disaster, it maybe positive. Time will be that judge.

Are they bringing in a new No. 2 now? Or are Boateng and Carr Adi’s replacements?

That is her new job title (I think she has been with the club a while) but from the publicly available information it sounds like a jazzy way of saying she does the modern 'sports science' bit. Obviously that could potentially bring her into conflict with an assistant manager that thinks he knows better but it seems highly unlikely she alone would make the decision to remove him. Far more likely to be Robins imho.

Boateng left us a quarter of a century ago so much of our support won't even have seen him play for us.

I was gutted when he left, but I think we had the best of him, when he was pretty much an all action box to box midfielder. After joining Villa he turned into a 'sammy sideways' holding midfielder.

When lamenting that two of my favourites players (Boateng and Haji) left us for villa I console myself with the thought that both made us a fair bit of money... then promptly downed tools.

Mildly relevant aside, Boateng was well thought of at Boro but 'On 22 January 2008, Boateng had his captaincy rescinded by Gareth Southgate. Southgate cited his desire for Boateng to "concentrate on his game". He was replaced as captain by Emanuel Pogatetz.'

Shortly afterwards, Boateng left the club for Hull. Despite heavy investment in the squad in 07/08 Boro would be relegated the following season with Southgate still at the helm. They would finish just 3 points behind George Boateng's Hull City.

Hmm...

Yes...let's remind anyone who had forgotten, quite how poor a manager Southgate was before he fell on his feet and inherited a decent England side (like Coleman with Wales).
He got relegated with a Middlesborough side who had one of the leagues most generous chairman (Steve Gibson), who provided him with lots of cash to buy players...approx £32.5m (if Alves's fee was £12m) which was quite substantial in 2007/08.

This is as bad as Peter Taylor leaving Cloughie to me.
If this wasn't of his own accord then this is a very very bad move.
I am going to have to lay off part of my promotion bet on Betfair now. I don't think this will help our promotion push this year at all.

Yeah I have to agree @SkyBlueAussie, genuinely thought we’d have a very good chance and probably get promoted this season

I don’t think that we’ve got as good a chance now

So much for a stable pre-season. I was hoping after the pitch debacle and squad turnover stuff happening over the past couple of seasons this one would enable us to start better with a bit of stability and investment. I just can't see this not affecting Robins too. His relationship with Adi was strong. It just a year ago he made the comment that Vivash signing a new contract was the biggest signing we made that pre season and just a year later hes gone. Unless it was his decision to walk away I can't see Robins being here too much longer.

The idea that our chances of promotion have been so reliant on him being at the club is nonsense, nearly as much as suggestions of Michael Doyle being brought in as his replacement.

So what you’re saying is - you don’t think Robins has been that good all along? It’s all down to Vivaesh? - have a word

he’s an assistant manager - he brought good ideas to the plate, ultimately it’s Robins who makes the decisions.

I was annoyed for about 2 minutes after seeing it. It very quickly became clear with the announcement of 2 new coaches that this wasn't unexpected, Robins is very involved in all these decisions and that we are trying something different with the better class of player coming in.
Honestly some of you need to stop looking for negatives in absolutely everything, it's embarrassing

Alex Ferguson used to regularly change up his coaching staff because he recognised that players needed to be coached differently over time, he also thought he benefitted from having a different perspective ( god knows whether he actually listened )

The clubs comms and media team are very switched on to social media comment. They will know and will feedback fan reaction. Hopefully the club will explain more today.

The silence from existing players on their socials suggests to me the club have asked them not to comment on Adi leaving which would suggest that the parting of ways was not amicable.

Trying to read between the lines this feels very much just like a freshening up exercise. Viveash was obviously an old school coach and he was the one interacting with the players daily. Robins probably just wanted a new voice in there, an impetus of ideas etc.

Guys, they told you in the announcement the reason.

After a review they believe we can have a better coaching structure.

End of and move on.

it is pretty sad that people just can't grip they have decided to make changes to the coaching structure as they feel they are needed to get take the club to the next level.

adi was a great servant and a big part of the success but it wasn't just him and we have now employed a former international assistant and and a promising up and coming coach from a PL team instead.
