I read an article a while back about Roy Keane at Sunderland. When he first went in he did a good job - he had that aura about him and could motivate another 10% out of average players

when they got promoted and started signing bigger names - that aura went and they started to slip, the bigger and more expensive names didn’t subscribe to his management style

To be fair I've misread Carr, he coached at wolves as development coach and Ireland women's assistant .

Individual development coach. Suggests one-to-ones so not that senior a position... which tbf is why he'd leave.

I'd still be happier if we brought in, as well, somebody with more of a track record to help the less experienced ones step up.

We got 4 points from our last 8 games - I’d consider that stalled

Will be interesting to see how the team performs at the start of the season. You got the feeling that the defensive performances went down hill a little when Lawrence left, but of course we didn't actually replace him. Will there be a notable change in levels of performance now AV has gone? And will a new defensive coach now bring an improvement at the back? Interesting times for sure.

Actually from the Leicester game on last season in January, our performances (in the Championship) were not as convincing for me.
We were brilliant in that run from Oct-Jan.
I'm not including the Wolves & Man U games in this.
Funnily enough it also coincided in COH's slump

I’d also argue we weren’t convincing against Leicester until they got the red card

We looked decent all game imo and they only had a terrible ref decision to thank for their goal.

Looks like it’s been in the works for a while with an “extensive selection process”. So Adi himself would have known about it and could have even been part of the process.

A shock to me but so far all of the changes have been moving us in the right direction so hopefully this is another!

I can’t see this happening if Robins doesn’t sign it off. It’s simple for me. If Robins is driving it there’s no issue. If it’s just King we have an issue.

Genuinely worried by this. Robins and Viveash have been a team and Adi gets name dropped by players way more than anyone else. Hope Doug isn’t playing silly buggers in the name of instant success.

He said he had a 5 year plan. The club has been badly run behind the scenes for years. DK is making the changes he is entitled to, to make his plan work.

If he wanted instant success he could just gamble on spending his money on players. But the signs are he is investing in the infrastructure that will take the club forward. So his plan to me seems a bit longer term than 'instant success'.

Was the writing on the wall for Adì and Lawrence earlier in the season then?

I have a feeling there has been an incident or falling out. The press was so blunt considering how well he is regarded by the fans, players and staff. It's so brief when you consider O'Hare got a full write up.

Can only hope Robins is totally onboard with the decision or this could end badly.

I think regardless of the appointments King is now wanting a real promotion shot and Robins will be told to get a team both on and off the field to deliver -- or else

But the way he is investing in (by that I mean a mix of his own money and reinvestment of transfer fees) and developing the club is inline with his 5 year plan and I would argue beyond a five year plan.

Yes he will expect people to deliver across the club and will expect progress. But you have enough experience in business Grendel to know that a 5 year business plan is a realistic norm and 5 year plans are often rolling and not fixed, by are under scrutiny and tweaked all the time. The world changes and so do circumstances and that is where good leadership kicks in, responding to change.

No word from Robins. Can imagine that whatever has happened he is not happy.

Maybe a job offer, possibly from abroad. Maybe in England youth setup. Who knows…but rather it be that than him being sacked…

They are changing it to get to a higher level. We did great getting to where we are but, like with players, we sometimes need a better calibre or different approach

What do you mean no word from robins?

Manager Mark Robins said:

“We are very pleased to welcome George and Rhys to Coventry City.

“They both impressed us during the extensive recruitment process for this important role and each bring key skills to the football department.

It's strange how people give disproportionate credit to intangibles. Let's just see how it goes.

Players enjoying working with a particular coach does not mean necessarily that the coach is something irreplaceable.

I’m very surprised at this news. My major concern is who initiated the change?

If it’s MR who wants to freshen up the coaching process, then that’s fine.

However, if that decision originated with King or Claire-Marie, then it could be an issue for MR.
Love him or hate Adi, he was a very central figure both technically and culturally to the team.

Claire-Marie was in charge of the PL coach development programs & will have had built up contacts with numerous coaches. However, education programs are only that… it’s applied knowledge that counts.
Let’s hope it works out.

What makes you think he's not happy?

Do you think for 1 minute this would of happened if he didn't sanction it?

The fact that he welcomed the new coaches and said they Impressed during an extensive recruitment process shows that he knew it was happening for some time.

My guess is he actually orchestrated it

To add to the speculative bollocks posted everywhere on this thread, here’s my view.

Robins is known for not being sentimental and I think he would have had the final say. Having fell short the last two seasons, maybe Robins feels we need a fresh perspective, different coaching methods and a new mentality to take us to the next level.

Maybe this is the next key stage in our evolution. The club wouldn’t have hired the two new coaches without an extensive process beforehand. People are shitting the bed for no reason

That’s fair enough. Just a massive surprise and I’d have thought that regardless of what Robins thinks about him there would’ve been more a statement about him leaving.
