Visiting Coventry City for first time (4 Viewers)

Hi Football Fans,

Longer and longer I was hoping to watch a game in England. I do not like to go to games in the Premier League so I was wondering where I could go. I am living in the Netherlands and I am working for a company with its HQ in your area. For a training of my work I was often in the neighbourhood, but never on a home game date. Tuesday 21st of March I noticed you guys having a home game against Port Vale. This day I am again for work in an hotel 15 minutes of your stadium.

I want to go and watch that game. But I never visited an English game before, is there a specific side where do the fans are sitting/standing who are singing and chanting etc? Do I have to hurry with buying tickets online? Is the traffic okay enough for a cab/taxi/uber to the stadium, or do I need to be early?

We play in a 32000 capacity stadium and average between 8-9000 per game so I wouldn't worry about having to do anything early.

I wouldn't worry about that, our attendances this season are the lowest in our entire history. You can pay cash to get in, so no need to buy a ticket in advance.

Welcome Michael. You won't struggle to get a ticket for the Port Vale game and a cab to the stadium from your hotel should be fine between 6.30-7pm to get you there in plenty of time to get to your seats and soak up the atmosphere that is the Ricoh Arena.

PS. There's unlikely to be an atmosphere.

The part of the ground with the big car park is for away supporters. Sit in the stand that has a "Wall of Fame" and runs next to our super railway line. I think you will be able to pay cash on the gate to get in, but someone will tell you if I'm wrong there. If you want somewhere quiet sit at the far end with the higher block numbers.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses. I thought because both teams are in fight against relegation it could be a high attended game. But if not than I just will go and buy a ticket at the stadium itself. Or is it cheaper to buy in advance? I do not need to sit quiet, I like the places with the most active fans

How old are you ? The oldies tend to sit around Block 21 - bring a tartan rug and a flask of tea :emoji_older_man:

...then sit at the other end of the stand, nearest the train station. You'll pass a dreadful box outside with "WASPS" written on it. You need to sit at that end of the ground.

...absolutely correct. I'm of that age and in possession of a flask of tea. You'll notice, Michael , that the football pitch is in a very bad condition. That's because all the old people ran on to the pitch after our magnificent semi-final cup win and we destroyed it . It was the old people in block 21 !

I am 24 years old so I do not consider myself as an oldie.

I am not sure if it still is, but it is about the same usually.

Online you have booking fees etc but you can pick your seat in advance. In fairness if you turn up and buy a ticket on the gate you can just sit where you see a space or move at half time.

Don't go in that Casino for a drink, cost me nearly £15 for 3 pints, and they lasted only 7mins!

P.S We don't sell pies either, you can spit at a Wasps crest for that

If so, I'd suggest several very large whiskeys before attendance.......it'll help numb the pain & also make the port vale danny dyer wannabees seem even more hilarious.

Micheal, the pitch is not the only thing in dreadful condition, the club is too.
We are bottom winning just 5 games all season, but the good news is we are on our 4th manager this season and this one at least like playing football on the grass, something you Dutch know a thing or two about.
I wouldn't go with great expectations of seeing a great game, but at least we know we will have to win this game, well pretty much we have to win every game to stand a chance of not finishing bottom.
Enjoy the experience, it may make you need a few beers afterwards especially after seeing what our goalies and defence are like.
Stick with us and enjoy our promotion winning campaign next season

Don't take this as a fair example of us. We're at one of our lowest points ever so our support is disheartened at the moment and the atmosphere can be quite negative.

Haha I will take a note of that. Maybe a casino is not the best thing to do in advance.

Thanks for the headsup, I am fan of Roda JC we relegated four seasons ago the first time in history and got back the season after that. We are now two consecutive seasons in the danger zone. And three seasons before our relegation it was always around the relegation zone, so I think I have a little understanding of the kind of football I will see. At our club the players even refuse to fight for the points...

I am used to it, we are in a sort of similar situation. We played 5-7 years ago a couple places higher in subtop/middle of the league and we won three weeks ago our first home game in exactly a year, so times do change.

This might be a suggestion that doesn't go down too well but it may be an option to sit with the away (Port Vale) fans if they also allow paying on the gate. As a neutral it's almost always a better atmosphere with away fans!

Michael. These guys are all wum's. We are a top team with a manager who has a 52% win ratio with us. Our ground is part owned by the fans (well I bought a brick) and tickets can be hard to come by (maybe due to poor organization and computer failure). We are due to play at Wembley in a cup final after getting past premiership opposition (ok under 21's). After years of underachieving we are finally getting out of league 1. You've chosen a great time to join the sky blue army. PUSB.

Welcome to Coventry. The football is pretty basic, only third tier division. Don't think you will see many goals scored, as Coventry City are in need of a decent quality striker and if we did have one the service is a bit rubbish. Just enjoy, if you can. The Coventry fans all have a pained look on their faces, don't worry it not you they want to kill! It's the owners.

Have a great time Michael. It isn't the best football you've ever seen (in fact it will probably be the worst), but most of us are pretty friendly!

If I remember correctly, there is a £1 administration fee across all sales channels EXCEPT on the gate. Don't quote me on that though will need to double check!
For a good view you're best with block 20/21, for 'better' atmosphere (as long as we get a few goals) you want block 15/16.
If you buy online you can choose your block/seat. Pay on the gate and they give you the tickets on top of the pile! We are pretty empty though and you can generally sit where you like. With the exception of season ticket holders seats but you won't struggle that's for sure.
