Not really. Sick Boy just infered he is party to the agents actions, which he is.

And you can't blame them if they think someone will pay it.

Can someone explain this to me, from comments above Vik and his agent are pushing to get out at a lower price but Sporting are holding on for a higher figure, his agent only gets 10% on anything over 60m euros, so surely he should be pushing for as high a figure as possible, or am I losing the plot

I suspect it's because there isn't much of a willingness for clubs to pay over what's being touted in the media. So holding out for a higher fee just isn't realistic or productive.

The agent will have been in direct dialogue with clubs for some time now so he'll likely have a pretty good gauge of what Gyokeres' perceived worth is from interested parties.

A lower transfer fee gives them more headroom to negotiate with the buying club for their wages and bonuses. Rather than say Arsenal give an extra few million to sporting, than money saved can be divided between Arsenal, Vik and the agent.

Here is how agents make their money;
Football players typically pay their agents a percentage of their earnings, usually through commission. This can vary, but new FIFA regulations cap these fees. When representing the player or the buying club, the agent can earn up to 3% of the player's gross salary (if over $200,000) or 5% if under. If representing both the player and the buying club, the cap is 6% (or 10% for lower salaries). When representing the selling club, the agent can earn up to 10% of the transfer value.

Just want to wish this thread a very happy anniversary - it’s exactly one year since Saddlebrains broke the news that Vik was “very close” to joining Arsenal (since then he’s played more than 50 games for Sporting Lisbon)

Arsenal would have had a much better crack at it last season if they did sign him a year ago

I was speaking to a friend recently who's fairly close with one of the Directors at Arsenal. They were never even in for him last summer. Sesko was always their No.1. target but that got scuppered when he signed a new deal.

Bryan Mbeumo: Man Utd submit improved £60m bid for Brentford striker

Seems like rumours of Man United’s financial demise may have been greatly exaggerated. Although if you could sign either Vik or Mbuemo for £60 million then it’s an obvious choice.

2 different levels of player. Mbuemo is probably happy not to play european football and would cost significantly less in salary than Vik could command.

Says to me that United, as expected, will struggle to attract anyone at the top level of player. And I for one, love to see it.

Hmmmm Mbeuno is proven in Prem, Gyokeres is not.
I was reading earlier all the players that scored bags of goals in Portugal but all failed in Prem, different gravy here.

Mbeuno is demanding £250k a week, can’t imagine Gyokeres asking for more than that

He may be demanding it via agent chatter, but he won't get that surely. Nowhere near the calibre of player to be actually paid that.

To be clear - it’s a no-brainer that you’d go for Mbuemo over Gyokeres. Mbuemo is younger and has PL experience. If he’s gettable for £60 million then I don’t know why you’d go for Vik instead.

Agents linking players to either get attention for their client or to help their client get a wage rise. Media who report anything for clicks are used as pawns in this tedious game.

I think if a club were really serious, they would have him tied down by now to have him ready for pre-season return and not risk losing him.
I think up til now it's all media talk.

What is clear is Gyokeres is not a must have number one target. They have been linked with him so long yet still exploring other options.

Other Premier League Clubs have toyed with the idea rather than swooped. There is obviously question marks around something?

From what I've heard Sesko has always been Arsenal's primary target since last summer. Things can of course change at the drop of a hat in a transfer window, but I'd be very surprised if he ended up there.

he is a top player though, if he played in the CL he'd score goals

he has also seemingly said no to Newcastle and Spurs who are 2 CL teams

Cunha was wanted by teams like Arsenal as well, don't right off the pull that them just being "Manchester United" will have

It seems that Vik is nobody's #1 choice!
Have a sneaky feeling he'll be at Sporting for another year.

Isn't it fairly obvious what the question marks are?

Doubts around his ability to translate his form in a fairly significantly inferior league to the PL, he's 27 and therefore has no real room for further development and his price tag is being deemed as inflated.

Difficult really with the stance he and Sporting have taken though. He clearly wants to leave and I think he'll push through a move.
