I can't remember for sure, but think the release clause was declared by Sporting when he signed. Sure it was €100m.

You have to pay a release clause up in one go if you want to pay in installments it invalidates it (as far as I'm aware)

Unless it was agreed in the contract that the release clause could be spread, Cunha it was reported it said three payments but United wanted to make five.

Sporting CP sign Viktor Gyökeres

Sporting Clube de Portugal have signed Viktor Gyökeres on a contract through to 2028, with a €100m release clause set for the Swedish international. The 25-year-old striker, who scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 50 games last season for Coventry City as the English side reached the...

There are suggestions it was mutually agreed to lower it - the point is that no one actually knows

I assume that lowering the release clause wouldn't negatively affect Vik, so Sporting could lower it if they wanted, but not raise it as that could affect him.
They could hint that they might lower it to get some interest, but could then raise it again up to the stated contract amount if it suited them, which I assume is what might be happening.

Portugal and Spain have release clauses for legal and taxation reasons. Lameries had a 50m clause. However players and agents can negotiate a termination clause within the contract which is the lower amount

It looks like Manure are out of the race for Viktor as they have just signed Cunha from Wolves for £62m!

Cunha plays 10 & they still need a 9.

But, despite Amorim knowing him, I would still expect him to play for a team in the Champions League.

Clever move for Gyokeres to move to Portugal not considered in top six best leagues in Europe. Banged the goals in for two seasons with the plan to get a huge move to an elite Club and league. Will earn far more now than if he had moved directly from us unfortunately. Listen to Adi Vivesh part two who infers something very similar !

Appreciate this sounds like the kind of thing I would make-up for attention, but Gyokeres is on the cover of Vogue Scandinavia

No. Situation shouldn't need explanation, but you're spot on.

I would guess that in the case of two clubs bidding against each other for Vik. They will both offer the agreed "release" amount, which reports suggest is less than the stated release fee AND Vik and his agent will pocket the extra funds in a bidding war.

His release cause was lowered when he agreed to stay on till the end of the season.
He's now expected to leave for £60m

His contractual release clause wasn't lowered, he had a gentleman's agreement to leave for less than it. They're not obliged to accept less than €100m

What are all these stories saying his girlfriend does not want to move and he may be staying in Lisbon, as he loves the culture and the weather?
