You have to pay a release clause up in one go if you want to pay in installments it invalidates it (as far as I'm aware)

I assume that lowering the release clause wouldn't negatively affect Vik, so Sporting could lower it if they wanted, but not raise it as that could affect him.
They could hint that they might lower it to get some interest, but could then raise it again up to the stated contract amount if it suited them, which I assume is what might be happening.
