I question whether Arsenal's attention was ever fully on Gyokeres to be honest. A lot of the noise in the media feels very agent led.

Personally, I get the feeling that Sesko was pretty much their only target and once that fell through after he signed a new deal they realigned their transfer strategy and looked to focus on other positions instead. They seem pretty content with Havertz and Jesus.

I still find it strange that Sporting paid us some money to reduce the sell on fee %. They must have thought there was a good chance of him going to ask to reduce it.

I get why they've done it - more the timing that I don't get.

Did Sporting choose to or was it contractual due to their success (Vic scoring loads and them winning league etc.) ?

Considering modern Coventry perhaps whippit for a ticket would be most appropriate

No, the other addons such as reaching targets were separate. Sporting apparently paid us circa 1M euros to reduce the sell-on to 10% as per our contract. That is 5% of what they originally paid. It will save them somewhere in the region of 3M euros if Vik goes for his sell-on clause.

Wasn’t it reference in the leaked contract in a way that we get either all the add ons or all the sell on percentage, but not both?

They could have been posturing to flush out bids from any interested clubs by making it look like a deal was imminent.

I was indeed

Seems Arsenal just didn't fancy paying the release clause. Sporting wouldn't budge on it

He ain't going anywhere I don't think. Has new challenge of champions League footy now and makes sense to tackle it with a team and manager that get best out of him.

Next year he will still go for big money, maybe more with cL goals under his belt

Portugal is essentially a development league and retirement home for top players past their best. I think the issue is he’s playing against little comparable “prime talent”.

As I've said previously I really don't think they were that interested.

I don't doubt they would've made a loose enquiry, but they likely did that with a number of targets, with a certain fee in mind.

Sesko's release clause was £55m and he was their primary target. They were never going to pay anywhere close to what Gyokeres' is given he's five years older and is playing in a vastly inferior league.

Vik moving now would completely torpedo Sporting's season or make it very hard for them in the domestic and Champions League. Very little chance this happens.

Vik will get a LOT of games in the new format CL so I imagine folks will be watching carefully and if he performs well January window could be interesting.

Here's the list of teams they have:

Home games: Manchester City (England), Arsenal (England), Lille (France), Bologna (Italy).
Away games: Leipzig (Germany), Club Brugge (Belgium), PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands), Sturm Graz (Austria).

Looking at it now, his RC looks steep. Few clubs spend that sort of money. Even those that do have, to consider the PSR angle which now looks like it is starting to bring transfer values down.

Next year, he’s even older and even less likely to be sold on again at break-even (let alone a profit).

Having thought they’d hold out for something fairly close to their €100m, I think they’d be lucky to get €60 next summer, even if he has another great season.

Arsenal will absolutely kick themselves when they lose the title to Man City by a few points after their forwards drop them points throughout the season.

Man Utd think little of blowing £80m+ on individual players almost every season.

Totally agree. I'm not a Premier League manager but when I think of Arsenal, I don't think of them having someone who's a world class out and out striker. Then getting rid of Nketiah and Rowe-Smith leaves them even shorter.

I think it's madness they've not gone for him (or another one to be fair). They need a focal point like Man City have Haaland.

Saw him miss on absolute sitter at the Ricoh when he was playing for Peterborough. Probably the worse miss I've ever seen,

Pretty much all of Man Utd's biggest signings have been duds.

Antony is by far the worst though. Mount for £60m is another.

And people on here lose their shit when the likes of Hilssner and Dacosta flop
