no player gets better when they get to 30,perhaps only keepers.
Sheffs injuries have not helped him.

We're only able to make all these observations of late as we actually have quite a few good players now, I really rate The Edje, Adams, Moussa, Fleck, Jennings, Bailey and Baker and Sheffers have improved vastly and I like Christie when he plays like that, Murphy is good enough at this level. The jury is out on Clarke, I'm happy to reserve judgement but he looked possibly our worst player yesterday. All in all though, its a pleasure to watch the City now and if we had had Robins and this team together from the start we'd be top of the league !

I gave him a bonus point for the assist, also a had a decent free kick, I also think you're underplaying his excellent link up play with Adams -Adams had a great game and looks much better with sheff in front of him. They seem to have developed a decent partnership.

Adams was outstanding, him an bailey were the best players on the pitch imo. Imo most of our left hand side threat came from Adams

I also gave Sheff an extra point for the assist otherwise would have had a 5, free kick was close but not on target so no brownie points from me for that

Tbh I think my 7 to fleck was generous, could have easily been a 6 but I felt he played better than mcsheffrey an I gave him a 6

bailey battled and won everything - murphy inspired - Edge/Jennings - next best

Baker Awful
Leon - ran around a lot with no product

Baker has been by far the biggest disappointment the last couple of games ( all bar injury time in the JPT)

Does it outweigh Fleck's 3-4 good passes and shot? Not really, not 2-3 points difference.

I don't think neither of us are in a position to 'big up' Fleck or Sheff, none played particularly well, if we're going to be blunt about it.

In fact, a lot of people are being very generous with their ratings, had we have drawn, many would've deducted 1-2 points off every player. I think I would've kept mine the same tbh.

Christie wasn't good going forward, I can't remember him taking on a man, suspect at defending, link up wasn't as good as we know he is capable, he was ok in the 1st half.

Lets not forget that we had to wait for the dying seconds to beat Oldham.

Only big positive was that we ground out another result and another home win, we started doing well way when we began to grind out results, so hopefully we can kick on and follow suit.

Hold on, I may have been being slightly sarcastic, but you did say your mate said, and I quote... "Mcsheffrey: couldn't believe he was a £4.5mil player as he can't tackle"! Got to admit, that sounds like his main criteria for a player is tackling ability!

Read the original post... "couldn't believe he was ever a £4.5m player" ; translated as 'quality decrease so great to be unbelieveable'

Regardless...his view not mine.

I wasn't being serious! I didn't think someone would judge a player on tackling ability. It was just the way it was written.

And yes, it does say that in the original post, along with "as he can't tackle"! Like I said, just the way it was written tickled me!

The thing with McSheffrey is that despite him being so bad at defending (and making OK full-backs look crap - fortunately Adams is better than OK), he has started most games for Robins, who must believe in him.
Personally I think he trades a lot on his past, but he is the best (and the worst) crosser of the ball in the team

Is anyone of the opinion that MR called it wrong yesterday taking Jennings off .For me Moussa had to come on first and for me that would have been at Sheffs,Flecks or Bakers expense .
Personally felt that they only got their foothold in the game once he was removed.I like Fleck for his killer ball creativity but not for the other side of the game .Sheff has been playing very well for 10 weeks or so ,almost reborn but is not scoring his opporotunities and for a senior Pro he should be ,Baker yesterday looked jaded and barely got into the game .Having said that they rarely worked the ball to the right and focused i on the left.

Taking Jennings off seemed odd as he was playing well. Moving fleck back and 1 minute later taking him off seemed odder. I just wonder if moussa asked for a couple minutes warm up time before coming on.

Completely agree about Jennings, thought he was our best player yesterday, I thought the sub was strange as he moved fleck back for 2 mins then took him off. It's hard to determine whether it was the removal of Jennings or going to 4 in midfield was the main reason for that.

I think it sheff gets 1 goal he'll go on a run, it's a confidence issue

Possible, but Jennings would'nt have been one to go at all yesterday from where i sat,two from the three I mentioned above and Connor for him at the end maybe?

That's what I'd have done.

Pretty sure someone somewhere said they thought Jennings was holding his groin somewhat.

He might just have seen someone in the stands he fancied though, so may not necessarily have been injured.

I had a couple of Irish fellas sat behind me at the game who obviously hadn't been for a while since they referred to Coventry players by their numbers.

Just before half-time they said 10 (Fleck) was a quality player, rarely wastes a pass. Also said the big lad up front, 15, was working hard & making the runs but the service to him was poor.

Also a personal view on McSheffrey, the role he plays in our system absolutely requires him to tackle. To say otherwise displays poor tactical knowledge. One of two things happen when McSheffrey attempts a tackle, either a free-kick to them or he falls over and they carry on unaffected. His job when we don't have the ball is to protect Adams from the opposition fullback joining the attack. He has never added this to his game after several managers have said he needs to. He failed to track two or three runs yesterday.

Err, poor tactical knowledge? :thinking about: Totally disagree.

We only have the players we have! Who else is going to play on the left of midfield? Fleck? Fleck can't tackle either. You can't make a player tackle who can't tackle.

We can only pick from the players we have. You are saying our system requires him to tackle, but he can't tackle.

Yet MR has achieved a 55% win rate and we have only lost 8 out of 29 games. MR therefore believes the system works with McShuff in the team in spite of his deficiencies.

I have faith in MR's tactical knowledge rather than someone posting on a football forum to be honest.

He's spent his career as a winger and a striker. That he doesn't have the defensive qualities of Beckenbauer or Moore is thus unsurprising.

If you look back at some of the video tape of these games you will clearly see McSheffrey's quality balls enough times to want him in the side. He creates a lot and causes problems for others to feed off. That's what a senoir pro can bring you, experience and a bit of noodle.

Think Robins got the subs right based on the outcome. Who the hell are we to argue with that?
