Joined this late, too much to read. May have the wrong end of the gist. Was it this was too good a deal for the council to turn down?

If so

I suppose they either say no to a local economy boost, jobs, premiership rugby in the City. SISU carry their repeated mantra out and Move CCFC out of Coventry.
So you have the missed opportunity from wasps plus the negative impact on the City of CCFC leaving.

Or they take a chance on the Wasps deal to cushion the blow of CCFC leaving. They also hope that SISU won't see it through and they get the best of both worlds.

Not sure about the term 'too good to be true,' but a 'no brainer' is probably more Reflective. As crap as it is for the 30,000 'active' Cov fans

Common sense. I mean, I know it's difficult to accept for some people, but difficult to understand?

Sorry where do the figures come from before they have even played a game, or paid back the 20 odd million for the stadium?

I would hazard a guess that the second highest turnover in Europe is currently far from the truth. When they have consistent support like the Tigers or Saints, coupled with the other income streams and they have cleared the debts then yes they may have a very good turnover, but then it wont make a huge amount of difference on the player front as they still have to stick to the stringent RFU salary cap.

Considering the amount of people that were tarnished with the hilarious 'R U TIM FISHER?' brush, there can't be a lot of intellectuals left.

interesting article :thinking about:

Two thoughts come to mind

- the failure of Wasps at the Ricoh is not as clear cut as some state or hope ...... but then again neither is success. It does seem with all the weeks of preparation work being done Wasps are giving it every opportunity to succeed, stark contrast to the relationships/partnerships formed and broken by CCFC over decades

- If the stadium needs two successful teams at it to work properly(I am by no means convinced it does) is the target CCFC or CRFC? In many ways a second rugby team makes more sense. More bad news for CCFC??

Time will tell

If the target was a second rugby team, you'd be better off setting up a rugby league side for use all year round...

Possibly but would that cut off the possibility of other events being staged in the bowl that are more cash/profit positive? The whole complex is not just about sport.

Not really, it'd only be used for a day a week. No more days than squeezing another team in during the week. In fact, it even opens up the arena as more days are free on a consistent basis.

Plus it's easy branding, along with economies of scale in sharing trainign facilities etc... and also sharing players.

Plus as Rugby League always tries to expand you could make a play for instant top flight access. We're the cusp of an area that doesn't 'get' Rugby League, but more northern than most expansion efforts... and a clean break and fresh start is the ideal time to try and get it working here, while they have to try and fight for fans and solidifying a sand base anyway.

It isn't one day though is it for some of the other events, there are set up and break up times to consider that could easily affect sporting fixtures.

Not saying Rugby League wouldn't make more sense, but what I think is the important point is that CCFC may not be the only longer term option for Wasps. In any case I have yet to be convinced by anyone that the whole Wasps deal depends on CCFC being there or even a second sports team of any sort....... you simply would not anchor the whole deal on something or an entity that is completely out of your control, let alone one that is in crisis and extremely high risk. I think they would like a second team and it would make sense for it to be CCFC but I do not think it is a need fundamental to the success of their move.

If true that could be very bad news for CCFC and our seemingly clueless owners

There has been some discussion of the RFU salary cap rules implying the move to the Ricoh would improve things for Wasps. This link gives the details

http://www.premiershiprugby.com/premiership/structure/salary_cap.php

The overall player salary cap 2014/15 seems set at 4.76m for the squad plus certain credits etc. The potential for the Wasps move to the Ricoh, if it works, is that Wasps can spend the full amount without the need to borrow, increase interest payments, make losses etc. How many other teams can do that?

Sorry quoting a two sentence statement within a BBC article does not mean it is true.

There are many permutations to this, and yes it could well be the case if they market and use the facility appropriately, but like I said attendances may well be key, as will another sitting tenant, and how they have structured paying their fees.

It could work well for them, personally I hope it doesn't.
Is it too much to ask SISU to piss off, Wasps to fail and a new owner of CCFC to come in just as the Council have to grovelling look for a new anchor tenant?

I would suggest at least Bath, Saints, Tigers and Saracens, the latter three who seem to have been running things well for a number of years, and now Bath seem to have come to the top table. Harlequins may also be up there.

Wasps may get there eventually but all the claims about how rich they are at present will take a few years to be seen on the pitch.

Too many planets will have to come into alignment for that to happen Moff. I was not happy about Wasps takeover but now its a done deal I won't wish ill on them. The optimal solution now is that CCFC and Wasps become one entity, where the benefits of success are mutual. Anything else is just not pleasant to consider.

Agreed. There is great potential there for Wasps as I say. Let's just hope CCFC can somehow share in it.
