But if we're still winning games it would be mad to change it.
I've no doubt the long term plan is 4 3 3 but if we put ourselves firmly in the mix playing 5 3 2 why change at such a crucial stage of the, season?

It’ll be 4-6 weeks until everyone is available to us so plenty could change and I’m not worried about what may or may not happen in that timeframe.

As a principle, you find ways to accommodate your best players and we won’t do that playing 5-3-2 with everyone available.

King definitely didn’t handle it well. But how do you handle something like that well? Lampard has had a reasonable start which has given the fans time to settle. Look at the reaction today.

if Lampard didn’t start as well as he has - it could have been disastrously toxic

To be honest, how should have King dealt with it better?

Was always going to be a toxic moment due to the size of the decision made. Club did honour mark with the video package and all the tributes in programs, Doug did front and explain it. I get it the sacking mesg was crap but if he was unwilling to resign I can’t really see what else could have been done and don’t get me wrong I was fuming at the time.

As far as I'm concerned the forum was a PR disaster.
Not everyone will agree, but I honestly don't know what he was thinking.
I appreciate he had a very difficult situation foist upon him which he never anticipated happening in a million years. But was still embarrassing.

That’s fair, the forum for me was a damned if you do and a damned if you don’t. While I think somethings should have been kept in house I appreciated that he fronted it and not just hideaway.

But he was also himself and I think he let the emotion make him defensive which came across as dismissive. I guess it’s the debate on how much communication we want and when best to do it

It's already been addressed so far this season. Would be unfair to say defence has only been sorted by going to 352.

It didn't work earlier in season after all in either back 4 or 3.

Lampards got it working in a 3 and nothing to suggest he couldn't get it working in a 2.

I think he'll fancy the players to be able to perform in a 433 too, especially with Dovin back there. I know some aren't convinced and think he'll stick with what's currently working but personally think he'll be keen to get the attacking talents of Wright and EMC on that pitch.

If we keep winning games regularly and keep ourselves in the play off shake up then why risk changing it?

Seems crazy to jeopardise our play off chances by changing a winning formula. They'll be time enough for that.

I'm not saying he should change to 433. If we don't it will be like you said because we're doing fine as it is with 352

But I don't think he will avoid 433 because he thinks the centre backs can't do a job in that formation however

We were playing a back 4 without a goalkeeper. Might be different now we have someone in goal.

Well playing both Wright and EMC is itself something that we haven't done regularly so we'd be making huge changes to our defence and attack, that's a big call to make if we're in the middle of a play off push.
(For the record, I think EMC left and Wright central would work but even so.....).

I don't think Lampard will worry that it's something Robins didn't try previously in all honesty.
It's a tough call, fully get why he'd keep it if it's still working, thems the decisions he's paid to make I suppose.

No he wont worry.
But it's a fact that as much as people say they're our best attacking players they've both done it in the same position and one had to wait for the other to get injured before he got an opportunity.

Been critical and disappointed with VT to date, however last 3/4 weeks been better and today was excellent (ignore goals) was the little things, off ball work, work rate, making cynical fouls - goals obviously cherry on top.

more to come I hope.

Personally, I disagree. He set his stall out and a lot of people, whilst disagreeing with the decision, could see his point.

Yes because they’re our two top scorers and Lampard favours playing with wingers. The team has got good results but the team looks undercooked imo.

Look, the early results have been really impressive. However, without putting a downer on things, we beat 2 teams that have had some woeful form. The team hasn’t been fully stressed tested yet.

Lampard is a pragmatic manager so he’s switching up formations based on the personnel available. Credit where it’s due because he’s adapted very well in his role so far. He may well prove a lot of doubters wrong this season.

Another point I’d like to make, it’s really good to see Lampard ‘loving it’ here, he looks like he’s having fun in the job!

Torp is looking better every week and seems to have better fitness levels and getting his foot in now (his passing and moving the ball quickly was never an issue just a strength). I stand by my early season criticism of him, but looking a different player now.

Re Torps first goal a shout out for Ellis Simms who dragged and occupied two central defenders towards the front post to allow Torp to come in behind . I doubt that will show up on any stats but it was in many ways an assist.

532 has only produced good football in one half really. We’ve won but not looked comvincing. I thought against Blackburn we looked better when Sakamoto came on and we went 541 but even then we were two up by then. I don’t think there’s evidence it’s some panacea that should never be changed. Though I still have questions about a back 4 with these defenders.

Tbf 433/4231 didn't produce many good halves of football, you can probably couldn't on one hand and still have fingers to spare.

That said these last 3 wins have been against a teams with injuries and who are in poor form.

Absolutely spot on.

Split the support and our club. Lots of people went on the attack as many were defending anything. If you were worried about where it could lead us if the results didn't change after Lampard took over you was seen as anti King and Lampard. But luckily the results have gone the right way.

It would be nice to have different tactics for different opponents. Maybe also for home and away.

Changing Wright for one of the present strikers is a no brainer. Finding room for EMC on the left would take a bit of tinkering. But you can't just say it didn't work with EMC on the wing because the results weren't as good when most of our problems were the amount of soft goals we kept giving away. We now have a confident GK and a defence that has confidence in him. Now players like Torp and MVE can go forward more without having to worry about defending.

Lampard is starting to look like a great appointment. Everyone's pulling in the same direction again. And what an ex player to help our midfielders learn from. My worry now is we have this season and next to get promoted to keep Lampard. You can see he is loving it here but his aim will be to manage in the Prem. Will be surprised if we don't make the top 6 this season. Only Leeds and Burnley look a level above everyone else.

A big call yes, but we have an elite tactician to make that call.
