He's been playing 90 mins regularly so he's got good and proper match fit.

It’s all tactics and a style of play. There’s a really nice balance to Torp-Allen-Rudoni that wasn’t there when the CM partnership was a pair of Sheaf-Torp-Eccles or all 3.

The way Lampard has setup this 5-3-2 has been fantastic. Rudoni and Torp operating almost as alternating wingers at times.

Looking forward to seeing what this team can do in 4-3-3 when Haji and EMC come back.

Why would we go back to the 433?

Because we aren’t going to leave our two best attacking players on the bench?

In my opinion, that’ll get the most out of our squad of players. 5-3-2 has served us well but it’s very much a stop gap until our star players return.

If we’re winning games then I don’t really mind who’s on the bench

We haven’t shown anything like this kind of consistency and solidity this season playing a 433

433 is hypothetically very good for us; 532 is actually good

Trouble is we haven't got 4 defenders good enough. We need the extra man to allow for their individual frailties

We’ve had one good half let’s not go overboard here. The spirit has been good, Dovin has won us some points, but we’ve not looked particularly convincing going forwards and will need more against better teams.

We’ve had a good run using it but it’s doubtful that this team setup is seen as the best long term solution.

For starters, you need Haji and EMC in the team. You could maybe get that in 3-4-3 but not in the 5-3-2.

Its clear to see that 5 3 2 suits the vast majority of our squad.
And we've won 3 on the bounce, 1 against the team in 6th, and one against the team in 8th.
I'd say we've had more than 1 good half.

It was apparent Robins just didn’t know his best team or system. In time, I felt he’d have figured it out eventually, King didn’t and he was closer to things than I.

Seeing how he gets on at Stoke will be proof in the pudding of whether or not King was right to sack him.

One thing is for sure, we look better under Lampard and have done since he’s arrived in truth.

I get the feeling it was just time with Robins. Eventually you get to the stage you just need to freshen things up.

he turned it around the last 3/4 seasons. I’m guessing law of averages would suggest that one time he wasn’t going to.

it got to a stage where some of his selections and subs were baffling.

Lampard has freshened it up and looks to have given the team a new outlook

It really won't as far as Im concerned. In the same way how Lampard does here will prove nothing about his previous managerial positions.

Goes for any manager really. Most appointments have their own unique set of circumstances.

Time will tell on that front. The back 4 from last season was good enough to finish higher than where we are now.

Yeah, think it was the end of the era.
Don't think King handled it well but I think it was for the best, even though it took me a few days or sovto come to that conclusion.

Yeah but two of those teams were in absolute disarray and we looked awful in the first half against Blackburn, like as bad as I’ve seen until we scored against the run of play.

First half today was for me the first time we’ve looked actually good. Second half was two scrappy teams. They still ended with more shots on target than us.

Well need to be better if we want to take on teams in form especially going forwards. Five at the back and long ball has shored us up and Dovin has kept us in the game so we can actually score and it means something. Again today he got us the win with his save at the end.

Were doing well and finally beating teams above us, but it’s been at the expense of attacking threat. We’ve not played an awful amount of good attacking football. We’ve shown severely needed fight and spirit.

532/long ball suits our defence and removes some responsibility from our midfield and suits BTA and Simms but completely leaves out Sakamoto, EMC and Wright. It’s not a long term solution. We still need a defence that can play in a four.

I'm not sure when Wright and EMC will be back but I'd wager we'll play several more games before either of them return.
If we keep winning then it would be madness to revert to 4 3 3 when we're in the play off shake up.
If that means benching any of the 3 players you mentioned then so be it.

We'll have all summer to work on reverting to a 4.

Not really, we had some poor results playing 5-3-2 this season.

Lampard will want to play with wingers, even Rudoni is operating as ‘half-winger’ in the current system and we go to a 5-4-1/3-4-3 when Sakamoto comes on.

We won’t know until everyone is back, which will be quite a 4-5 weeks. My best guess is that Haji and Simms will play upfront and we’ll accommodate EMC when he’s back.

I’m inclined to agree. But mostly because I think our defensive issues will return if go back to a four and that’s been our biggest problem all season.

This system Lampard has reverted to is probably the best solution we have with the current personnel available.

5-3-2 is a balanced formation, which is what we need in the absence of arguably our 3 best players; Wright, EMC and Sheaf.

With everyone available, it’s not the best fit especially if we go and sign a winger in this transfer window.

But if we're still winning games it would be mad to change it.
I've no doubt the long term plan is 4 3 3 but if we put ourselves firmly in the mix playing 5 3 2 why change at such a crucial stage of the, season?
