Torp should play further forward, and switch with Rudoni, who should playing deeper. Both are underperforming in the wrong position.

I think the biggest problem with Torp is he looks very similar to Eccles so I really don’t know who to moan at/curse. Luckily on Saturday, they were both shite.

I just call them both Torcles and then it covers all bases.

Not behind the strikers like a 10 or as defensive minded as a 6. Usually plays in a midfield 2 or 3 & is more 'box to box'. Has defensive responsibilities but also has to score & create.

And I don't think Torp has pace for a box to box Eight? He isn't a big enough in the tackle and a ball winner for a Six. That leaves a Ten and he just doesn't have the skill sets for an out and out Ten. He has positives but where he is lacking means he just falls between the stools at this level.

I hope he proves me wrong and goes on to have a fabulous season.

I don't think pace is a massive issue, more the timing of runs etc. Toni Kroos was one of the best 8's in the world & has never been blessed with great pace. Matt O'Riley who just joined Brighton from Celtic for £25m is probably the best example. He was routinely rejected by clubs over a perceived lack of pace but he's proved the doubters wrong. A clever footballing brain is more important.

With Torp, I'm hopeful. Clearly has good technical ability but still looks to be adjusting to the game over here. He really needs a good run of games in his best role & with a settled team. How many times has he actually started alongside Sheaf? Just 3 I think?

Lampard a good example of an 8 who excelled without pace?

I think lots of people are underestimating how long it will take for Torp to adjust to a league as fast paced as the Championship considering his previous experience

I think that puts it in a nutshell.

Let’s give him a chance if and when he is playing in a position that suits him.

It's not helping his case that he's being asked to be more defensive than he's used to, but does that also mean that he can't suddenly pass a simple ball to a team mate?

Feel sorry for him. Being asked to be a holding midfielder, dynamic midfielder and a creative midfielder at the same time. I think he'll be decent for someone, hopefully us, given he only has to do the job of one player.

First half was the best he’s played this season. Looks to be lacking in confidence as last season he’d have had more digs when given a sniff. Tired during the second half but him and Eccles where having to cover a load of ground due to how we were set up.

Think that depends on the performance director, however we're treading new ground re all this stuff,no more flogging a dead horse, whether that means we lose something IDK?

Torp looked better today but his frailties were still showing through at times. He really needs a big run of games before being fully judged. I have always said players coming in from abroad often need longer to settle and step up. As it is such a period of transition for them.

Let's see where we are at the end of December.

I am very disappointed with this unreasonably measured post.

Please drink six pints of Stella, stub your toe on the coffee table, and then come back and try again.

He's lucky because he will have to play a good number of games until the end of December.
In the Norwich game he got his head down, tackled and competed more. What we need to see is him doing that but also finding time to look up and pass forward. And to form a proper partnership with Eccles or Sheaf.

Does anyone on here remember Trond Soltvedt? Torp is pretty much a mirror image. Good player. Can score a goal, pick a good pass and influence a game. But - just doesn’t have the nimbleness of mind or feet to be top notch.

That is a good comparison. I still think Torp's biggest weakness is his lack of pace which unfortunately seems synchronised to his speed of thought.

I just think he’s struggling to adjust to the breakneck speed of the championship. It seems like he’s used to having more time on the ball and gets caught in possession. Sheaf was a bit like that too in his first season. I do think Torp can kick on but we need him to ASAP as he will be playing pretty much every week now

I get that bit, but he has no recovery speed which won't change.

I guess all this really does is prove that you can interpret stats however you choose and some stats lack alot of situational context , if this is supposed to make him look like michael Carrick then it doesn't

Agree on above - this is where stats skew view.

using your eyes, watched every game live this season - torp way off pace. Speed of thought, foot miles off.

1st half against Norwich and little cameo v Oxford was bit better. But long way to go.
