Worked very well yesterday and as the press are saying, set an example to the Premier League.

Anybody changed their view on it?

How was it an example to the premier league? Were they following different processes or something?

I don't think so but it was far quicker on each review.

Officials and VAR getting good press in the papers this morning for how it worked yesterday.

It did seem quicker. I don’t understand why though if it was the same systems being used by the same officials.

I know it saved us, but I didn’t like it and don’t want it. And whilst you say both handballs were clear, they were both very short range and not convinced they were deliberate handballs.
(I haven’t read any match threads or seen any replays yet)
It was good to have a decent referee.
And not giving offside for ages because of the VAR back up is just stupid

The rules have changed to let play go on, ultimately it’s quicker to disallow a goal rather than pull play back.

Isn't the rules on handball different if a goal comes from it? Something like can't get benefit from a handball in front of goal? First disallowed goal for handball was way less obvious than the 2nd which was hilarious. Anyway I thought VAR was quick and pulled the right answers so no moaning from me.

It seemed to help us, knocked two goals off that could have been given in the EFL.

Worked well, being used by one of the best refereeing groups in the country, in the country’s most advanced and camera’d up stadium, to address some quite obvious fouls.

yes, if it hits the hand intentionally or not it is not at goal

wasn't the first one given by the ref and var just okayed that call?

First one the officials caught and was just confirmed by VAR. Thought Michael Oliver had a good game. Still missed loads of shirt pulling/man handling of Vik.

If it had cost us promotion and potentially millions of pounds you would be moaning also.

I certainly think the location helped with all the camera views.

But also the more relaxed occasion may have helped. In the Prem, so much depends on decisions being right (money, reputation, postgame analysis etc), the officials have to be sure they are making the correct ones. The viewing audience for the Playoff final was probably less than any Match of the Day so possibly less pressure on the ref and VAR ? The dive by Clark was a good example. Wilson did catch his foot but not enough to cause the exaggerated fall. Ref Oliver made the call on the pitch when he didn't have a perfectly clear view (Fadz running in front of him). VAR backed him up moments later. Whereas in the Prem, it would have been reviewed by VAR 3 or 4 times then sent to the Ref on the pitch for video review.

Definitely one of the better officiating teams we've had all season.

Ref's view of the pen appeal.

Var did what it is there to do, I don’t think Oliver did though he didn’t clamp down on any of their known tricks shirt pulling, endless time wasting and all the dirty little tricks he must see in European games.

As I said in another post, Vik was blocked a lot, and man handled. Had that been stamped out early it would have been a slightly different game. Luton had two on him, one to block and one to play the ball back up. In the second half it didn’t work as they couldn’t keep two on him and cover Godden. If the blocking had been punished in the early stages of the first half, like it should’ve been, Luton’s long ball tactics wouldn’t have worked so well.

Having said that, VAR seemed to work fine, and I imagine if the shirt pulling and blocking had have happened in the box we would’ve had a penalty or two.

Thought Oliver was fantastic yesterday. Frightening the gap between him and some refs we’ve had.

Nope, VAR is shit. Didn't celebrate our goal properly as worried Vik was offside
