You'll Never Beat McPake

Having been reminded this morning by my better half that it was Valentines day I than had to remind her that I would not be in a position to take her out this evening as I was already planning to go to the match. To which I received a response along the lines of what is more important -- you fellow SB supporters will know the story!!

I now find myself in a quandry...do I take out the wife knowing my mind will be on the game and probably end up being poor company or do I go to the game, probably suffer more depression at the hands of a dodgy ref or a late goal in the 7th minute of injury time robbing us of a well deserved victory and then go home and get aggro off the missus.

I would welcome your views on how you are handling similar situations with your own "other 'alves"

Give me her number and I'll pop round and keep her "company" whilst you're at the match!

:welcome:

Book a table late. That's if you can still get in anywhere.

Either that, or arrange a candlelit dinner at home for after the game. Tell her you will only be gone for a couple of hours and then she'll have you for the rest of the evening.

Think you need to make a grand gesture as a compromise.

There's plenty more fish in the sea. She will remind you of this.

I agree with taking her to the game. A couple of hours where you don't have to listen to her.

Take her to the game. Then you'll both have a reason to be miserable.

Mine told me " Let's not bother with any presents, cards or a posh meal this year, just a waste of money really"

This morning, get a wrapped present and now in trouble for not getting her anything.

I would blag it and say you phoned round everywhere but they were all fully booked...the only places with availability were shitty places..and you would prefer to take her out some where nice and not do a half assed job..so promise her you will take her out at the weekend...so you now get to go to the match, + you've kept her sweet

Well I did the honourable thing and went to the game, bought the missus some flowers and choccies and reminded her that there was plenty of soaps on the telly.

Great result, crap referee (again), bag of chips on the way home sealed the deal.
