I was going to point out that tbf you still have to check things are as they claim to be, but am no longer sure if such a claim makes me a dribbling Europhile, or a rabid Brexit-loony.

It's strange that you were "deeply disturbed" about people politicising the situation against "Mr Johnson", yet will shamefully spin stuff for a bit of EU bashing.

Got friends in UK who have raised over 50k plus vans loads of goods. Supposed to have left in a convoy last weekend but have had to repack everything into boxes by country of origin to get through customs. Going to be double the work when they get to Poland sorting it back into what supplies actualy need grouping together etc.

Unless this has changed since the last few days they also aren't waiving fees on aid being sent out which means a decent chunk of cash is going on that instead of much needed aid.

Disgraceful that the Premier league allowed the Saudis to take over at Newcastle. It's almost like they don't learn.

Was interesting that Amanda Staveley was the first to oppose any action against Abramovic.

So the eu isn’t a bloc and acts as independent countries regarding Russia but claims as a bloc it will reduce it

EU to reduce Russia energy dependency – DW – 03/08/2022

The European Union aims to cut its gas dependency on Russia by two-thirds this year, while committing to ending it entirely by 2030. Energy imports from Russia have come into sharp focus in the West in recent days.

Good grief.

You voted for this. Own it.

Anyway, it's not the thread for Brexit arguments so I'll leave it there.

no I was responding to @PVA who was claiming border control is somehow the uk fault.

He blatantly attempts to politicise. The other day he presented a graph on sanctioning indivisuals and quotes the eu as a measure against the uk. So if that’s the game it’s the game

so you are saying a reason we shouldn’t have brexit is because we can’t be allowed to ship aid to Ukraine as the eu are totally ethically within their rights to make this difficult

well that’s really interesting

Hungary gets a special price but are committed to reducing Russian gas - by letting the Russians build them a new nuclear power reactor for 15 billion and 10 billion of that is a Russian state loan !!!

Maybe they were briefly suspended while the tweet was deleted or something. Fuck knows.

Will it go both ways, IE no chance of getting JCS or future loans from them if there's no outgoings either apart from out of contract players? Also if there are still loans out allowed, they might be less likely to let them go now.

The EU does wave restrictions. They won’t have all this BS crossing borders in the EU.

There is a European consortium that buys energy as a bloc which is what I think Grendull is actually referring too. Consists of more than EU and EEA countries also but obviously it suits certain viewpoints to make out its the EU in isolation.

The amount of money's worth of equipment the Russians have just abandoned, nevermind the stuff that's been destroyed, is absolutely incredibly

That is after a long time of conflict though in fairness, this has barely been two weeks.

I still feel cautious about the media coverage, but it does seem that the Russians are having a much harder time of it than we all expected, for whatever reasons they may be.

Don’t think we left much at all. Most of the equipment out there that the Taliban inherited was owned by the the Afghanistan government.
