We’re not going to have a nuclear war with Russia. Even as Putin engages in nuclear blackmail, he isn’t even the only person in Russia with the launch codes and power to end the world.

Threats of nuclear war is bluster on Russia’s part.

There is unlikely to be a scenario where NATO needs to intervene militarily. Russia has made a strategic error and Western experts think Ukraine could somehow win this war.

I agree. I suspect if Putin convinced his military that he really wanted to start a nuclear war with a first strike strategy then he'd suddenly disappear from the public and be replaced .
My only concern is that having made threats of nuclear attacks and NATO's decision to keep away, this deluded idiot now thinks it's fair game to use that threat at every opportunity in the future and do exactly as he pleases
The problem now for him is that he's played his trump card and the rest of the world has seen that his conventional military isn't as effective as we feared.

The logistical issues we’ve seen from them is a bit embarrassing for a great power.

It’s unlikely Putin’s entire inner circle is feeling sufficiently suicidal to start a nuclear war. For that reason, I’m confident things won’t escalate that far.

They were all at it. Julia Hartley-Brewer and Laurence Fox were sharing each other’s tweets as Russia was winding up on the Ukrainian border because the British Forces were having an LGBT day. You won’t see the Russian forces having an LGBT day, woke is everything that’s wrong in the world. There’s only 2 types of toilets in Russia, male and female, woke is everything that’s wrong in the world. Yay for Russia, why aren’t we more like Russia. Then Russia invaded a sovereign democratic country just to show them what is actually wrong in the world and it’s not the phoney woke war. Thank god we’re for the most part a tolerant nation that celebrates free will and the “different” to the norm. Otherwise we’d be Russia. Idiots the lot of them.

Just heard on the radio that Russia will only agree to humanitarian corridors that flow directly to Russia or Belarus.

Russian propaganda, they are trying to write a narrative that Ukraine poses a nuclear threat to justify going in.

They've ( both sides) been going on about "false flag" operations since well before the invasion.

No my opinion on this is genuine - the western hypocrisy is beyond absurd and I will continue to express my opinion. I’m sure it doesn’t fit the narrative but seriously I believe I am correct and I certainly won’t be reigning my opinions in

It's a waste of time engaging, it's like the old 'wrestling a pig' thing, you both get dirty but only the pig enjoys it.

I'll leave it there...

Of course it’s increased immeasurably as you’ve cancelled me. Wow how impressive

Western hypocrisy? Careful now you're getting dangerously close to criticising the neo liberal governments you've been defending since I joined this forum!

No it’s the hypocrisy of “caring” about a country which is not exactly a shining example of democracy and urging it on

Now thus won’t be popular but let’s be totally honest here if Ukraine was populated with 40 million black people living in an African dictatorship that censured media and made trumped up charges regarding its political opponents there would be 5 minutes on the news every evening and a sigh and a shake of the head

I pretty much agree, , maybe a bit harsh to criticise Ukraines democracy given their own issues with kleptocrats, oligarchs and puppet governments but Im probably more in tune with your stance on this than most on here, (strongly disagree about sanctions), but I still feel that eventually Putin needs bringing down for eveyones sake, even if that does have the stench of hypocrisy about it.

I don’t have an issue with sanctions - it’s obvious there has to be a reaction - my issue is they are just going to Impact people on both sides of the border who are not to blame

Zelesney gets an easy ride but he’s no cuddly democrat who believes in free speech - of course he’s national league standard to Putin - but he censors the media and did threaten political opponents with arrest - it’s a far cry from the uk

Our interest is purely strategic but a man who refuses 60 year old men the freedom to escape tyranny isn’t ticking many boxes for me

One of the worst pictures I've ever seen in my life. Made worse by the fellow simply crossing behind them and appearing not concerned. I'm guessing he's too scared to look.

Temperatures dropping to -9 in Kyev this week.

That'll be fun for the Russians stuck in that convoy with no fuel to run the trucks

Is there a reason your own posting history doesn’t reflect this noble outlook on the sweep of global challenges we face as a species? Or did you survey the totality of human suffering and decide your energies would be best spent on British serial killers and Diane Abbott?

And Russia's doesn't? At least have an attempt at being impartial.

And I don't believe you about what you believe on this. You've been all over the place and I get the distinct impression you just want to be contrarian and annoy people.

Think about what you're doing. You're backing one of the most dangerous dictators on the planet in this conflict under pretences that he is far more guilty of the things you're admonishing the Ukrainians for. Yes, Ukraine is far from perfect (where is?) but to suggest Putin has the right to do this because of reasons like corruption, suppression of political opposition and far-right factions is like saying the Fire Brigade should be taken over by an arsonist because the current Chief had a bonfire in their back garden.

I’m not backing anyone - if China invaded ukraine we’d do nothing - absolutely nothing

If your dumbass analogy occurred in Sierra Leone everyone would laugh at you

I’ve been totally consistent so that’s nonsense as well

Consistent in saying Putin should be allowed to do whatever he likes, then backing it up with reasons of:

- Ukraine has a far-right Nazi element (something which Russia has even worse)
- Ukraine stifles political opposition (something Russia does to an even greater extent)
- Ukraine is conscripting people to fight (due to the country being invaded whereas Russia do it as policy)

So if you were consistent you'd look at those things and determine that using those metrics Russia is in fact worse and this invasion would only make the situation worse not better.

This was a point I made a few days ago. Some people do not see it. I'm aligned to Ukraine's defence but it comes at a cost.
The said regiment were cited by Russia as having committed Genocide in Donbass etc. Hence the 2014 conflict and their current war with Azov to rid Ukraine of Neo-Nazis. I implied that Russia is doing Ukraine's dirty work for them in taking Azov out. But that is not going to plan is it?
