So NATO membership is saving it from Russia. Yet NATO expansion is supposedly what caused this. The irony being that had there been further NATO expansion and Ukraine had already joined then this invasion wouldn't now be happening.

No-one forced those countries to join NATO. They could have chosen the Belarus route and aligned with Russia. Why didn't they?

There is a basic reality here. Sanctions are fine but if they fail what then?

We let Ukraine slug it out with Russia and that’s really if. This isn’t our problem. It’s never going to be and we have zero loyalty or dependence on Ukraine - there should never be any uk soldier defending Ukraine it’s nonsense

Basically "bugger you Jack, I'm alright" You are so self-centred it's unbelievable.

Are you like this with your neighbours? If they were broken into you'd just say "Not my house". And what would then happen if you're house is the next to get broken into? All your neighbours would just be "fuck it. Not my problem." You reap what you sow.

This is why civil disobedience can be so useful. It just stops the cogs turning.

I'm very pleasantly surprised given the control of the media and the reprisals for doing so that it's so widespread.

Why do dictators always think that what always happens to dictators won't happen to them?

This can't be right.

General Grendel said all military experts say Ukraine are being annihilated and will fall within days.

I wonder how many LinkedIn connections Radakin has?

Probably not, but Putin is using it as a very convenient excuse.

Given how he's talked about NATO aggression towards Russia by putting hardware nearer Russia in new members states, his excuse for his 'excursion' into Ukraine was because he feared NATO bordering Russian territory (which makes no sense because if he then takes over Ukraine it's definitely on his border) and has threatened Finland and Sweden if they join NATO I'd say it's in his 'reasoning'.

In the meantime, 1.2 million Ukrainian refugees in Europe.

Total number of visas issued so far in the UK?

50.

Incompetence, deliberate policy, an utter lack of humanity, you tell me? I'm sorry if you voted Tory, but this government is genuinely disgusting.

Looks like the US is planning on bringing Venezuela back into the international fold so they can use their oil and ban imports of Russian oil

Ah, but he didn't say how many days. So even if it doesn't fall until 802701 to the Morlocks he could still be right.

He was on the BBC 10 o clock news. Basically said that the Russians were going soft on them so far, and expect a ramp up of aggression and violence.

The BBC also had another expert who repeated the same and said once they have forces in position, expect cities to be flattened.

They've committed a huge chunk of their troops.

They'll start flattening cities out of desperation and because they have no option, the invasion is floundering badly.

Like I said, the experts say different. Flattening cities is a tactic the Russians used in Chechnya and the middle east.

Yes they did it in Chechnya, for the exact same reason. Their tanks were getting blown up left right and centre and progress stalled so they flattened Grozny.

Yup. Did it in Chechnya and Syria. It's a deliberate tactic and not really done out of any sense of desperation.

It's a wipe out anything in their path policy.

We may not be 'dependent' on Ukraine, but I understand it does produce a large proportion of the world's grains and this will have quite an impact on food supply and cost, which will be felt here.

So even if we do take the 'I'm all right Jack approach', that might not be totally true.

Yes and no, it's a bit of both I'd say!

It's a very deliberate tactic... For when things aren't going well

Send in the special forces, got massacred
Send in the tanks, got nowhere
Fire a few missiles, still no progress
OK let's level the place

I'm finding all the anti Russian cultural stuff really embarrassing tbh.

I completely agree they should be sanctioned and isolated, we should find alternative sources of energy and they made outcasts until they sort themselves out.

We're taking Tolstoy out of shops, Anastasia off Disney+ and shops are removing vodka they've already imported.

I hope it doesn't end up in a general racist feeling towards ordinary Russians here many of whom will be as aghast at what is going on as we are.

It's so sad. I like the Russian people, but absolutely detest the Russian regime.

And now it's making my blood boil, because I am in one room here, watching the BBC News and seeing bodies of dead children in the street and in the very next room is my wife watching Russian TV spouting absolute bollocks about how Russia are liberators and everything is fine.

Unfortunately, it's inevitable.

I agree, it is getting stupid now. Sanctions yes and hit them hard, but removing dolls off shelves and banning Russian cats from cat shows?

They should be offering asylum to any Russian artists or performers already in the west.

Would be a propaganda coup to get some of them to refuse to return until they get rid of Putin.

I agree.
Though it's funny seeing media outlets that said Islamaphobia is a made up word (I thought they all were), throwing around Russophobia which I've never heard before.
