yes isn't it great that the UK have posturing lightweights like Truss, Wallace and Johnson wagging their fingers at Putin and getting under his skin.

Just STF up.

Exactly, there’s no detail to it whatsoever and his track record in the detail is dreadful.

@Grendel are you Peter Hitchens?

PETER HITCHENS: One glorious day in Sevastopol, I saw what was coming

PETER HITCHENS: In the long-ago summer of 2010, I found myself in the harbour of Sevastopol, surveying the rival fleets of Russia and Ukraine as they rode at anchor in the lovely Crimean sunshine.

Im guessing they are pissed off about the military defence equipment and training we have provided since the start of the year (and apparently pushed others to provide), without which, who knows how things might’ve panned out especially in the first few days

You’re 100% right. People are moaning about Boris’s and Britains response but we have led the way in support for Ukraine to see off the Russain invasion and Russia well know this.
Compare Boris’s actions to those of Macron, the wannabe leader of Europe, and to the initial silence in the main from the Germans and like it or not, Boris has shown Europe the way on supporting Ukraine.
Ive got my Tinfoil hat at the ready for the whatabouttery onslaught.

Yes it’s nonsense to suggest the USSR theory

The nato element was clearly an annoyance but it’s putins religious obsession which seems the main driving force behind his theories and “reasoning”

In reality Ukraine has really been Russian until around 30 years ago or I suppose the pendants will say a century

The curious thing I do not understand regarding the EU is the totally disjointed approach regarding strategy communication. Where was macron appointed chief negotiator?

Not at all. You think the tory parties closeness tothepeiple they're supposed to be sanctioning isn't relevant? That's a weird take.
And of course if this was a Labour government you wouldn't mention it.

I've no time for Macron, but to try and use him to paint Johnson as competent, and more importantly, not corrupt, is insane.

“Even previously sceptical Tory MPs have speculated that the crisis could prove to be Mr Johnson's 'Falklands moment' – a reference to the 1982 war which transformed Margaret Thatcher's political fortunes.

The analogy is enhanced by the fact Mr Johnson has moved his daily 8.30am briefing from his No 10 study to Thatcher's old office on the floor above.

It means that Mr Johnson and his inner circle of six key advisers are dissecting the conflict under the steely painted gaze of the Iron Lady.”

Boris Johnson announces six-point plan to defeat Vladimir Putin

In the space of a fortnight, Mr Johnson has transformed from beleaguered leader, assailed by endless allegations about lockdown parties, to burgeoning international statesman.

Very much lines up with my thoughts and what I've been reading.

It's anonymous though so sadly we can't verify how many LinkedIn connections he has

well it was previously a Labour government who took Russian money. I’m the past trade unions received KGB funding. A strong accusation against at least one Labour leader was that he was KGB funded

it’s an irrelevance as money gets taken and taken moral Hugh ground when the ground on the other hill is equally as flat is entirely irrelevant

one of the really disturbing elements of this crises is the politicisation by the opposition. It’s deeply disturbing for our democracy

Thats why one of Johnson own MPs is banging on about it in Parliament.

It was a genuine question. The amount spent on weapons from other countries has been published but I can’t find the UK figures.

Yes, I agree, but it's highly relevant to our response.
And what lead us here is irrelevant now, it's how we resolve it that's important.

We’ve been slow, especially against individual oligarchs but think those numbers are way off from what I’ve read. Even independent is suggesting hundreds. I’m not sure what the criteria is though

What sanctions has the UK imposed on Russia, and could more be done?

Leader of Russian Orthodox Church, children’s rights commissioner and four top colonels all targeted by UK as latest round of economic penalties announced

this won’t go well. You will soon be accused of being a Putin sympathiser and dragged off to SBT HQ somewhere in Islington for a good dose of middle class liberal thinking (but you’ll be told it’s socialism)

Probably more they see UK as an easy target for calling out rather than the EU - as a bloc of countries (number of countries and physical mass) and major trade partner.
