Maybe if you were to understand that there is plenty of options in between your two suggestions of 'Let Putin get on with it' and 'shut off Europe's gas supply' you might be able to join in the adult conversations.

I don’t see how it’s contrary to suggest if you believe in sanctions why you don’t think huge sanctions are more impacted to Russia than very small ones but fair enough keep lobbying for your war

Yes of course sanctions work ffs.

You seem to be under the impression that the sanctions should have caused Russia and it's army to have folded like a pack of cards overnight. Utter naivety. That's not how it works.

Their economy is fucked. They basically cannot trade with anyone. Can't get supplies and materials into the country.

To suggest they are 'very small' just shows how utterly wrong you are.

Don’t know if you’d noticed but a war is going on right now, we are supplying weapons to Ukraine and we have already committed ourselves to an economic war in any case. Russian forces are bombing cities to pieces and laying siege to others-the fear about us ‘escalating’ by daring to attack a 40 mile convoy seems to be a moot point by comparison to what they have done.

You have at various points suggested we should do nothing at all to saying if we were serious we’d turn off our own gas supply overnight. Which is it? Just the opposite of prevailing opinion at the time it seems

Er they are still trading 25% of their total exports to the eu in one particular commodity alone but hey you are the adult here - and that’s the last available figures from 2019 - oh and there’s a little place to the east they do a titchy bit of trade with as well

how long will it take in your opinion? Also do you think the little place in the east might consider purchasing some of its gold reserves

What’s your thoughts?

I called for air support not boots on the ground, even then under a UN banner rather than just the RAF.

Also if you recall before the invasion I was talking more about plebiscites than attacks against Russia so the idea I have suddenly become a warmonger is a bit bizarre.

Don’t think I’ve copied any tweets or social media here either. I do offer what I really think though instead of playing devil’s advocate 24/7 to appear wise

I totally agree about military conflict, therefore sanctions and supplying the Ukranians with weapons isthe only alternative. To do nothing but let Putin crack on would be insanity.

Yup. I do have the nagging feeling that the sanctions are in a gamble by Putin however, that they end up destabilising us as much, if not more so, than Russia... and let's face it, he won't need much excuse to go full-dictator in his home country, will he.

No one offers opinions so this is a pointless thread of ignorant Islington labour types who want a jolly little war as long as they can sit at home on the sofa while was working class types go and die

Russia was a colossal mistake from the west - I’ve been many times and it’s very much in the big cities a western style culture and was there to be seen as an ally in the west

We have since the days of wolfitz and through to Rimney gone with the notion it’s always an enemy abd when it was down smash it rather then embrace it

Now we are seeing the realisation of our folly. The west needed to pick on someone so it picked on Russia - a proud resolute and loyal nation as it knew it dared not confront China

In the end the kicked battered animal fights back

We’ve created this monstrosity and we’ve relied on it

This thread is full of utter nonsense — most on here are ironically like Putin they snarl and kick back when other views are expressed and to put it mildly most are ignorant and clueless

Good luck with it keep posturing and keep chatting but perhaps Google Romney (I know most will have heard of him) and the other chap and understand the philosophy tbe west have deployed against Russia why Putin became and why we are where we are

I’m a humble child I know but hey take a look

Got your wish leave you all to it for a while

Well the idea that we should let the country fall, have Zelensky resign and hope that Putin gives it all back with bells on top seems the most insane idea I’ve seen.

Not as insane as starting WW3.
And that's not the plan. Admittedly the plan is a weak one but it's still preferable to mutual destruction.

That's all irrelevant. What's done is done.
Western foreign policy is littered major fuck ups. We still have to deal with the consequences.

Just heard the back end of another rambling speech of Putin. Blokes gone full on nutter

Saying everything’s going to plan, Ukraine is holding thousands of foreign hostages, have shot two Chinese and they’re hiding military equipment in schools and civilian areas (suppose this justifies Russian shelling of these areas)

Hes also (according to him anyway) throwing money at soliders families to make up for their wholly unnecessary deaths

Someone kill this c**t

Russian FA appealing ban

Good luck lads you'll need it as their claim is FIFA can't suspend them from FIFa run tournaments.

If they somehow win the world cup will be a farce as no team will play them

Not allow a humanitarian crisis to unfold with no military intervention is what I want. The more land that is taken the messier it gets. There was the chance early on to stamp out this invasion from the skies.

Are we really willing to potentially go to Armageddon over Estonia simply because it signed the relevant paperwork?

Grendel you are arguing with yourself. You make some excellent points and some bizarre ones. At least the thread won’t get thrown off on tangents if you’ve genuinely gone for a bit. Russia is systematically destroying Ukraine and we can do nothing to stop it or so the argument goes. When Russia move on to Estonia I don’t want anyone to make the argument we can’t act

So we shouldn't be sanctioning Russia, and Putin doesn't care about his own economy - but at the same time Europe should be ashamed for not imposing sanctions that might devastate their own economy in the process?

With this kind of circular logic and all his talk of a "proud resolute and loyal" Russia, is @Grendel angling for a job in the Kremlin?

If Putin goes into Estonia we won't really have an option, yes, because they signed a piece of paper, that's the crazy world we live in.
