Georgia and Moldova will be next. How many to fall before we do something?

We don't know this , what will eventually need to happen is the Ukrainian leader surrender to save thousands of lives .

What? So we accept that Putin just takes a country as enormous as Ukraine? This is totally bonkers

It's not , we can then negotiate with Russia.

I'm not sure starting a global war with Russia is the way forward , its could end up with their allies falling back onto their side .. like China who would see an opportunity to become the world superpower

Whataboutery once again. I’ve no idea what needs to happen. Thankfully I’m not in a position to make these decisions I don’t think I could. Until you came along we were debating different ideas acknowledging that none of us knows best and working out our fear and understanding together as mates where we didn’t need to get one over one another but just needed to discuss

well no you want a war. I don’t. It would not be a legal war, it would not benefit us and oddly every leader of the West agrees with mr and not you playing a game of Risk like a child with your so brave mates

If there was conscription you wouldn’t sign up and neither would your big brave friends on here

we need to ensure he goes no further abd that’s all we can and will do

I understand the argument of "do something now whatever it takes" , but I feel its driven by emotion and not sense

The only thing that resolves this is Russia to lay down their arms and leave

There is no negotiation with Russia if they succeed in taking the whole country.

In the short term no they probably won't win the war.

But there's no way Russia will hold Ukraine having been crippled and isolated economically, facing a non stop guerilla war (armed by the West) until Ukraine is restored.

Alternatively it’s do something while the invasion’s logistics are still poor and the forces lack cohesion.

Might sound mad but i did wonder if it could be a strategy for Russia to essentially take Ukraine hostage and use there release as negotiating chip with the rest of the world to get what Putin wants.

When has an invading army successfully conquered a country and then politely left after a negotiation?

I’ve lived in a period where Russia has control of half of Europe and we avoided a nuclear holocaust. Russia now is never going to do this again. Ever. It’s straining at the neck to get Ukraine.

It’s going to take all his efforts and financial resources to keep hold of Ukraine and have a devastating effect over time in its country

I wouldn’t antiginise China so isolate him and let him get on with it in terms of military intervention

I don't get all this what if is was Africa, what if it was China etc.

I think what the Chinese are doing to the Uighars is absolutely disgusting and would love to see us do something, but I think the only thing we could do is to boycott trade with them and hope sanctions are agreed upon by an official body.

Russia have actually invaded another country. It's something completely different isn't it and we can only deal with the here and now and I think it was Tizsa, he is quite right, it does affect your thinking when it's closer to home and not some far away place.

I did know of Charles Taylor.

This whole Ukrainian thing is just f*cked up though and we are sitting here and watching the whole thing unfold.

I really wish we could do something. I think Putin knows we won't and I am worried as to which country will be next. He has a desire to take back all the countries that gained their independence back in the 1990's.

I find the whole situation, disgusting, upsetting and quite bemusing too.

And don't ask me what I would do, because I honestly don't know, but I feel we should be doing something. More than what we are.

Not sure he wants to annex all of the Ukraine. He'll take the 2 new separatist states but put in a new pro-moscow govt for the rest.

China make out they don't care about Russia , they are geographical neighbours with a long healthy relationship , yes they might say "naughty boy " to save face globally but in reality when push comes to shove they will always back Russia over the USA

Ukraine will fall .. NATO have not had their hands forced and I can't see why they would force it themselves and risk a global war

Erm I did say multiple times we won’t do anything because Putin has held the nuclear deterrent as a threat to anyone who intervenes. If he did it to Estonia would NATO really go all in to defend it?

The deterrent doesn’t work if one side really is willing to hit the button

It looks like the Ukrainians are fighting for more than their president. Not sure what him personally surrendering will achieve.
