I wonder what some people would do if they suddenly had an unexpected lodger in their home? Diplomacy? Roll over, call the local Rugby team and ask them to come round for a chat? Ukraine defended their land and others saw the threat.

Neville Chamberlain was nothing like him. He was certainly misguided but surely he had the interests of Britain ahead of his own?

Trump and Putin are in the same game and the US needs to find a way through this. Preferably without getting their hands dirty themselves.

At the end of WW2 the US and the UK let Stalin have a deal to create an Eastern block of states under his control.

Nothing to do with "internet friends" just more to do with disliking racist, misogynist scum. Scum who is trying to make himself untouchable and a dictator. Scum who is siding with Putin and throwing Ukraine under a bus.

I'm totally unlike people like you who weirdly worship these kind of people. I hope someone kills the bastard.

I don't see the Trump supporters hereabouts condemning his suggested ethnic cleansing of Gaza, or his suggestion (and support) of Israel unleashing total war on the millions of innocent civilians there. A literal war crime.

I don't see Trump supporters here condemning the pardoning of the January 6th rioters, who were literally threatening to hang elected representatives.

You either believe in the law or you don't. If you're a Trump supporter, then you clearly don't, so please fuck off with your endless whining and your rank hypocrisy.

If you believe in the democratic electoral system then you acknowledge he is the elected president of the US and therefore stop whining about the outcome as you don’t like it.

I don’t agree with the pardoning system but every president abuses it

Merz not fucking about.

Germany's chancellor-in-waiting, didn't wait for the final results of his country's election on Sunday to herald a new era in Europe.

Declaring the US indifferent to this continent's fate, Friedrich Merz questioned the future of Nato and demanded Europe boost its own defences. Quickly.

This tone from the close US ally - and from Friedrich Merz who is known to be a passionate Atlanticist - would have been unimaginable even a couple of months ago.

It's a seismic shift. That may read like hyperbole, but what we are now experiencing in terms of transatlantic relations is unprecedented in the 80 years since the end of World War Two.

Big European powers have been shocked to the core by the Trump administration, which suggests it could revoke the security guarantees to Europe in place since 1945.

"I would never have thought that I would have to say something like this in a TV show but, after Donald Trump's remarks last week... it is clear that this government does not care much about the fate of Europe," Friedrich Merz said during a post-election debate on Sunday.
"My absolute priority will be to strengthen Europe as quickly as possible so that, step by step, we can really achieve independence from the USA," he added.

Merz hinted that the endeavour was so urgent that he was not sure on whether the transatlantic alliance leaders gathering for a summit in June "would will still be talking about Nato in its current form or whether we will have to establish an independent European defence capability much more quickly".

Significantly, the forthcoming chancellor put Donald Trump's America on a par with Russia - widely viewed here as a security threat to Europe more broadly. "We are under such massive pressure from two sides that my absolute priority now really is to create unity in Europe," Merz said.

No, because it would cause incredible unrest in the US. The world would be a better place without him, but I don’t think assassination is the answer.

Probably not assassinated as it would cause unrest. Heart attack, stroke. I'd be happy with that. Ultimately the world would be safer without him.

The funny thing is Europe are now dancing to his tune and looking at wasting billions on defence spend.

I did think the one benefit of a Trump administration would be ending a pointless Western involvement in a conflict that has nothing to do with us. But not so it seems - now Starmer and the EU look like wasting more billions - no doubt with sacrifices for the population to come.
