No I entirely believe it. I’ve always believed the US and the Uk strategy of treating Russia as an enemy was an error which I have stated many times.

I have zero interest in Ukraine and i see zero benefit in this war from our perspective

Because Russia has never treated the west as an enemy ever.

Also a bit surprised at you thinking the UK and US should be friends with the commies.

In what way was that the strategy? If anything we’ve been far too friendly and bolstered Putin. Pretending Russia was just another democracy was the issue.

Russia, especially under Putin has never behaved as a friend. Blatant and brazen assassinations on our soil, the Russian navy playing silly buggers around western assets such as probing oil pipes and data cables in the North Sea and Atlantic meaning that our Navy has a full time job detecting them and chasing them off. The naval stuff isn’t recent either. You ask anyone in the Navy and they’ll all tell you the same thing, the Cold War never ended for the Navy. Not just ours but every European nation. Despite this the west has tried to woo Russia into friendship, many European countries believed that they could trade Russia into becoming friends blindly leading themselves into being reliant on Russian gas. It’s now pretty clear Putin has never seen the west as a friend and has been playing a long game with a view to resurrecting at least in part the Soviet Union.

One person's reliance on Russian gas is another person's closed market for American gas.

It’s hardly communist is it?

It’s a capitalist country with very definite class structures

They tried western capitalism for a while and didn’t like it under the western puppet Gorbachev

It was tongue in cheek. Though I guess I should have put 'commies' to make it a bit clearer.

He was reviled in Russia and largely still is - a poll not that long ago had him below Stalin and the worst leader in the 100 year time scale

He plunged the country into abject poverty - people literally ended up on the streets. He was seduced by Western ideology and fame. In a Russians eyes he was a destructive influence for the vast majority of people.

That's your favourite trick.

You're right actually, you can read. But you have absolutely zero comprehension skills.

I've not said only one other person shares your views. I may have said you two shout those views the loudest, but I've not said it's limited only to you two.

Here is an interesting snippet from today

"Despite nine months of bloody fighting, less than 500 square miles of territory have changed hands since the start of the year. A prolonged stalemate could weaken Western support for Ukraine."

Christ. It is. That's just a fact.

If someone were to say it's making excellent progress, or speedy progress, or they're progressing so well they'll be in the Red Square in 10 minutes then that would be wrong.

But it is making progress. That is factual.

I wonder what people think of this article

Who’s Gaining Ground in Ukraine? This Year, No One. (Published 2023)

Although both sides have launched ambitious offensives, the front line has barely shifted. After 18 months of war, a breakthrough looks more difficult than ever.

You tedious, contrarian, bellend.

If you spent even just a few minutes trying to do any sort of research yourself you would see that Ukraine have made gains in the Robotyne area and this is their main focus.

You will also find that they have slowed the rate of advance, and are targeting Russian command posts, logistics, naval targets, anti air units etc etc in a bid to attrit Russian forces before presumably making another push.

If you were expecting a Blitzkrieg through the lines then you were mistaken and if that's what you're using as a benchmark then of course you think they are not progressing.

There is no time aspect to the word progress. If they are moving forward and taking more ground than they are losing, this is progress.

Here's something from the BBC if you want a source in language you can understand:

Ukrainian forces have been widening their breach of Russian defensive lines near the village of Robotyne for several weeks and analysts say they may be preparing for a new push.

The tiny village, some 56km (35 miles) south-east of the city of Zaporizhzhia, has been a focal point since Ukraine's counter-offensive began at the start of June.

Progress has been slow but analysts at the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) say they have confirmed that Ukrainian forces are operating armoured vehicles beyond the Russian anti-tank ditch and dragon's teeth obstacles in the area for the first time - just to the west of nearby Verbove.

The ISW describes this as an "important sign of progress" but adds it is not prepared to say that Ukraine has broken through as its forces have not breached the last visible defensive positions.

BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner says this is the most strategically important part of the Ukrainian counter-offensive and, if it is successful, could cut off Russia's supply lines that connect the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don to Crimea.

How is Russian occupation of Kyiv going by the way?

Because that's what all your sources were saying was about to happen as you belittled my sources for saying the opposite.

So what you are basically saying is that a marginal move forward is progress. It’s interesting loss of life means nothing in your chocolate box world of progress but that withstanding I assume you will comment on the actual link I made?

What does that copy and paste non linked opinion really scream out to you in the actual real world of war?

Well yes that is the literal definition of progress you fucking whopper.

And where in that post does it say loss of life means nothing to me?

Christ you must be absolute hell to live with.

'The Nazis gave prisoners in concentration camps coffee for breakfast, why do you like Nazis so much, does the holocaust mean nothing to you?'

You're right, no progress is being made, it's only a matter of time before the glorious Red Army march on the gates of Kyiv.

With respect this is an open forum of discussion and I think you see a word - progress - and then when questioned can’t answer what you actually equate that to mean.

From the analysis of your link what does it mean. Put it another way if the same progress is made every year - how many years will it take to get to the border?

You keep telling everyone how smart you are so how many years?

I have answered, it's not my fault if you choose to ignore it or if you don't understand the word progress.

And as for how many years it will take to get to the border, you do realise its not a case of 'well they are progressing by Xkm a day, so it will take Y days to take the remaining XYkm to get to the border'. Even you aren't that simple. Or are you?

Without western support the whole thing would have been over months ago. It’s naive to think otherwise. However, considering our very own general claimed that even Ireland could defeat Russia, things must be going very badly for Ukraine.
