If the Republicans end up in power they might not have a lot of choice.

If the Republicans get again, we are one step nearer to Gilead I think.

Transphobic, anti abortion, pro creationism, Bible bashing, gun toters.

True, but that's still 18 months away. It could all be over by then (hopefully anyway).

Cant see it happening TBH. Enough hawkish Reps to keep things going. It’s only the weird fringe that against it really. It was Russia that got moderate Reps worried about Trump in the first place. Still a lot of Cold War hangover there. Also it’s massive value for money.

A very small anecdotal story which is a tiny insight into the Russian side of things but I have just spent the last 3 odd hours drinking vodka with a Russian partner who moved out of Rostov-on-Don to Tashkent 3 months ago to escape the ‘situation’.

He’s in his 50’s and clearly a successful businessman but made the move because he knows life is about to become difficult.

He cannot get things like parts for his freezer because of the sanctions and asked my Uzbek colleague to purchase them here so he can send them back home.

He didn’t speak English but through my colleague wanted to raise a drink (among many) to me for sitting talking business with him as he knows many wouldn’t.

Without coming right out and condemning the war he clearly fully understands the situation and is clever enough to move to protect his own situation.

Was interesting to get that first hand experience. Even if he was, predictably, a Chelsea fan.

The dam thing. Russia at their best or Ukraine? Not sure how this plays out? Other than to say the Nuclear power station is likely at risk.

Surely Russia. Removes a strategic path across the river and makes conditions downstream more difficult for the Ukrainian counter-offensive.

It's also an incredibly dangerous act that fits in with Putin's entire approach to the war. I think it probably also shows how nervous the Russians are regarding the coming offensive.

Definitely Russia they was feeling the heat, Ukraine started making ground over the marsh land as well as pushing from zaporiza area they blew it so they can focus on one area, nothing will get across the dnipro for a week or so now until water has settled.

Doesn't do Russia many favours either as the dam supplies water to Crimea. Maybe they are planning on leaving there sooner than expected.

Another appalling act by Russia though. Still, can't complain as I guess they were just provoked into it.

Ukraine war: Russia moves to take direct control of Wagner Group

It appears to be the latest in a public falling out between the Wagner boss and Russian officials.

I'd start a rumour that he's been having secret talks with the CIA to switch sides.

Where did Ukraine suddenly get the crews to operate Leopard IIs, Challenger 2s, and Abrams when they previously only ever had experience of relatively unsophisticated ex-Soviet types?

“The UK will continue to work with the Ukrainian Armed Forces and international community to scale the programme up in 2023. Just last week, Ukrainian troops arrived in the UK to learn how to command Challenger 2 tanks, following the Prime Minister's decision to send the main battle tanks to Ukraine.”

Can do a lot when you’re motivated, I guess they only really needed to adapt the technology I can’t imagine driving a tank is to much different to driving b tank.

Maybe someone can enlighten us but it might be down to the weapon systems and technology, which differ between Russian and Western tanks.

Skills! If I tried that I'd be arse over tit in the first three seconds and likely shoot my foot off!

How practical it is, I've no idea, but it's obvious that Ukraine's forces are far more adaptable and motivated than the Russians.

If they had something close to parity in close air support you'd fancy they'd be making even bigger dents right now...

it is thats why i said technology, i mean the instruments aiming equipment ect, but i can't imagine a tank driver has much diffrence, like a car every car has a steering wheel and a accelerate and brake, just some cars are a bit more modern and more equipment, abs for example.

I have no military background so apologies if I’ve missed the mark on any points.

I went to the Normandy WW2 beaches in April and have done Reading/research both before and afterwards. each bit I read is a glimpse of the what, why and how wars play out.

There’s have been some intense moments on Reddit / Footage of trench clearing by UA special forces.
Offer the option to surrender.
1 No movie scenes being played out here.
2. The outcome of any one to one combat is often down to split-second reactions or decisions.
3 Turn a corner and be ready, go into a dugout and fire like shit, watch your back, come out of the dugout and be 360 alert.
4 As pointed out, motivation is key and the training seems to be decisive.
5 Be ready to live.

Giving Putin an out. At least in Russia anyway. The longer it goes on the harder it is to hide the death toll and fool the public. Not sure they’ll ever be a way back for him in Europe and the US. But then again they let Gadaffi back in so you never know.

Yes that’s what I thought. Shifting all blame away from Putin and onto the Russian MoD.

Though that’ll still make Putin look incredibly stupid. The Russian population will gladly swallow such bullshit though of course.

Something is happening. It’s hard to work out exactly because you really can’t believe anyone but…

Prigozhin Charged With 'Inciting Armed Revolt' After Vowing to Stop 'Evil' Military Leadership - The Moscow Times

The head of Russia’s Wagner mercenary group Yevgeny Prigozhin was charged with “inciting an armed uprising” and military vehicles were deployed to the streets of Moscow and Rostov-on-Don after he made an extraordinary threat to “stop” Russia’s top military brass.
