You just went straight over it without comment , I don't necessarily think you support it but sometimes as stated its better to show empathy

By your comment towards it which did not outright condemn.

It’s kind of an irrelevant argument though. The fact is Putin wholesale has invaded another country. Another country that is a democracy and willing to fight for it. That’s just a fact.

Ukraine has banned a load of opposition parties hasn't it, including the largest opposition party?

You didn't condemn Russia's atrocities so it's good to know you support the murder and torture of innocent civilians. Nice of you to finally admit it.

Of course its nonsense. Russia is the US big bad boogeyman and the rest of us - well mostly us actually - just fall in line, salute the star spangled banner and obey.

I’m old enough to remember when you were slating Corbyns stance on Russia for not making out that they were the Bogeyman.

Tony - keep up - if we are referring to the poisoning - I said all along it was a Putin assassination attempt and that Russia have dealt with numerous dissidents and spies over the years in this way. Oddly we never seemed that concerned

There is a difference between opposing the invasion and subsequent destruction, and thinking it's some kind of Utopia.

Why are you opposing the invasion unless you consider it strategically? Ethically no one cares surely?

I do consider it of strategic importance and not just from a military point of view. Ethically, I'm never going to support unprovoked invasions of other countries.

You are also talking to someone who thinks Blair should be in the dock for Iraq

11 more opposition parties than Putin ever had. Weren’t they banned for being pro the invaders? Understandable under the circumstances you would think. How many have mysteriously fell out of windows? Or accidentally drank radioactive tea? How many opposition leaders are in jail? It’s a bit of a false equivalency really when you start looking at the details.

What's the objective test of whether or not a political party is 'pro-invasion'?

but why? is that democratic? Presumably there are people who live in Ukraine that support these parties? Is that not allowed in a democracy?

And that’s proven to be a mistake. We’ve tried to appease Putin for years and it’s never worked. Why you think it will work now is beyond me.

I honestly don’t know but the fact is there is opposition parties, they do have free and democratic elections. There is no comparison to the democratic process in Russia simply because there isn’t one in Russia. You’re trying to bestow an equivalence on Ukraine with Russia where there is non.

During WW2 would we have accepted political parties with official links to the Nazis or funding from them? When you have Ukrainian parliamentary committees sitting on issues related to the war would it be sensible to have pro-Russian MPs sitting on them? These are wartime decisions.

If the Electoral Commission were to discover a party (for argument’s sake, UKIP) were directly financially backed by a foreign state would you wilfully sit by hoping they didn’t get into power or would you expect the EC to take action?

Also how do you define a political party. A quick look at the list and some of them amount to little more than pound shop National Actions. A self proclaimed political party banned in the UK.

I get it - I just don't know what the objective measure is that could be applied to 11 different parties. It just feels a bit weird to me. In Britain the BUF was proscribed after the start of WW2 but it was an outright fascist party.

Are all of those 11 opposition parties (including the largest one) all backed by the Russian federation? Like I keep asking. What is the objective test being applied?

Parties were banned by the National security council for pro-russian views even after the invasion - most were small with no MPs. Largest one splintered with the majority of the MPs forming a pro-EU accession party and against the Russian invasion.

There’s next to no prospect of Ukraine joining the EU any time soon.
