Not among the sane, no. Among the fruitcakes and contrarians like yourself however…

Peace talks will happen when Russia don’t think there’s a military end. Which means resisting them now. This is very basic stuff. Not supporting Ukraine now is capitulation not peace.

US is key but that election is still18 months away. If China continues to stay away from suppprting Russia militarily clock could run down faster for Russia than for Ukraine. Big factor will be what (if anything) they can achieve when they start to launch their own counter attacks

Yes absolutely. The election is a worry but if Ukraine keep receiving this level of support for 18 months then that is a big enough window to push Russia back significantly.

Hopefully the Spring counter offensive will be as effective as the counter offensives last year.

Ukraine maybe be better equpped than it was last year but fighting offensively is more difficult and costly in terms of lives as the Russians have found out.

Of course, but they'll be trying to repeat last years strategy of letting Russia push thousands through the meat grinder and then counter attack quickly through the broken lines.

Ukraine is receiving Leopards and Challengers and Abrams while Russia is dragging 1950s tanks out of storage, so the equipment balance is definitely tipping in their favour.

Not sure about that. Whilst Donbas lines maybe "flexible" in the newly annexed areas Russia have set up with heavy defenses rather than prepare them as a springboard for further offense.Ukraine will be having to attack rather than counter-attack in these "new" regions.

And by the time they do that the Russian forces will be kids and convicts armed with 1950s weaponary. They'll also just go round the defensive lines

That won't be the end. It'll be a temporary pause before Putin kicks off again, only probably worse having been emboldened by the seeming weakness of the West to stand up to him.

Then it’ll go on for years and cost trillions and the distinct possibility of nuclear war.

Not the end. We've now launched into a new global arms race.
There's a new struggle between US & China for global influence - Russia no longer big enough in its own right to sit at that table.
If Russia does kick off again it'll be in states geographically further away from NATO in the likes of Georgia, several of the -stan republics that are trying to pull away from Moscow's influence. The stated desire for the renewal of Moscow's influence over former Soviet bloc NATO members is pretty much dead in the water as NATO strengthens even the Republicans won't shy away from that.

There’s no chance of nuclear war, that’s just silly. It’ll go on for years and cost trillions whatever you choose to do.

Who said that? Other than Putin. Can you explain the steps that you think lead to nuclear war? Or is it just “they have nukes best not argue”?

If there’s next to no chance of nuclear war, why don’t western countries join the war to take out Putin? Or just bomb Russia into submission?

You’re sort of answering your own question there. There’s no chance of a nuclear war exactly because western countries aren’t joining the war and trying to bomb Russia into submission.

Was watching the Chris Rock Netflix special the other day and he was saying something along the lines of if Russia invaded the US half the population would welcome the Russians as liberator’s. Think there’s a few on here that would do the same, while calling anyone who resisted a traitor.

I watched that, very good. Nice seeing him land some punches of his own on Will Smith. I think the Russia line was "America is so divided right now, that if Russia invaded, some people would say "hang on a minute, let's hear them out!"

I just listened to a podcast of an interview with an American who has just returned from 10 months fighting in Ukraine as a volunteer.

He says its the most cut and dry, black and white, good vs bad war you're ever likely to get.

The US’ stance before that the Japanese attack was much the same as theirs is now with Ukraine. They were our No.1 arms supplier

Because attacking a sovereign nation is a massive step, and there’s Cold War squeamishness about US troops fighting Russians. So they’ll do what they’ve done and slowly ramp up support breaking lines in the sand as they go. I don’t necessarily agree but I understand.

Russia has repeatedly threatened nukes loudly then gone to backchannels to assure its not going to happen because they know it would make them an international pariah. China would drop them like a stone and likely Putin would get internal pressure too.

Putins whole thing is constantly threaten escalation because the West will back down and your ass never has to cash the cheques your mouth writes.
