This is exactly why Ukraine shouldn't, and don't want to, sit down for peace talks

You and your ilk do some to have a chocolate box world view on how war works. It’s brutal on every side and it always brings out the worst in humanity which strangely enough is why diplomacy needs to succeed

Nobody has said it isn't brutal.

However 'you and your ilk' seem to think that Ukrainians should be willing to sit down and invite the murdering invaders to settle in their country. Absolutely barmy.

The Russians seem to have a thing about wiping out anything in their way. As for massacre of unarmed citizens, it strengthens the resolve of the Ukraine population.

If only there was some sort of convention setting out the rules for war. We’d obviously have to set it up in a traditional neutral country, say Switzerland for example. Maybe it’s a pipe dream but I believe that even in war there should be some minimum standards of humanitarian behaviour that doesn’t include mutilation, deliberate killing of innocent people such as the unarmed, babies, children etc. and torture.

At what point should a soldier stop being a brute and become human again? Is it once all the scores have been settled or when the enemy holds up the white flag?

I don’t think that would worry the jailbirds they’ve released to become “soldiers”, or the Russian army in general. They are most likely following orders anyway.

the bigger pipe dream would be to have no wars at all. Impossible of course.

For these Russian rapists, murderers, paedophiles etc Ukraine is sadly a busman's holiday.

I agree with you about how brutal war is and brings out the worst in humanity, but you have a chocolate box view of diplomacy. It won't succeed in this case. Fact is they could talk and make as many agreements as they like, Putin is not going to stop because a piece of paper tells him to.

Wars always end, all of them through negotiated settlement, cessation of hostilities as a starting point. Other examples; N/s Korea, Cyprus, The Falklands have not settled yet but there is a peace of sorts.

Something happening in Bryansk - inside Russia.

Claims that Ukrainian saboteurs have entered a town or village and taken some hostages.

It’s either a false flag by Russia, or some Ukranians gone rogue.

Either way Putin has labelled it a ‘terrorist act’ (the fucking brass neck on him). So expect an escalation of attacks on public infrastructure from Russia over the coming days.

Apparently Russians who are opposed to Putin and had been fighting in Ukraine.

Russia's big winter offensive...has not gone well.

Tiny, tiny gains for incredible losses.

Previously a supporter of the invasion and Putin probably why he was given the platform. I doubt that they weren’t expecting him to say what he said. Maybe the tide is turning in Russia.

And so to Ukrainian footage of Russian POW’s. What kind of army sends men to war in Nike trainers and lounge shoes? and Wellies (In this case it may be appropriate…but nevertheless a bit of an eye opener)?

Sadly these are probably just conscripts sent to the front literally as "cannon fodder".
We've also seen videos here of interviews with families from the poorer regions who are "sending" their men as the death and disability bonuses are comparatively so large in relation to to their normal incomes.

Starting to sound like there’s tension between the Wagner Group and Russia. Complaining about ammunition not turning up and a lack of communication with Russian Commanders. This coming from the head of the Wagner Group.

says this every month. Likelihood is that their conscripts are wasting a lot due to lack of training.

literally. Their sole aim is to stay alive for the 6 months that then commutes their sentences. Not interested in going forwards, backwards, winning or losing - if they don't have to fire a round for 6 months it's a huge win.

Palestine is backing Russia in Ukraine. Head of government met Putin yesterday. Must be keen to de-nazify Ukraine.

it’s not a good look for Russia, unless they have a gripe with Israel

Looking for whatever support it can get. Look at the last UN vote on the calibre of country that supported Russia - literally all the misfits.

Because they see the West being too scared to turn the invasion force into dust.

Real concern with China is that it is now (like Russia) a "dictatorial" state. Xi has removed all opposition and competition from within the leadership ranks. Govt continues to bring everything back under its control Inc industry and finance.
Like Putin in Russia if there are no dissenting opinions at the top then policies lose balance. China is using Russia the way it claims US is using Ukraine.
China's relationship is intensifying but very much in China's favour. It is picking up cheap natural resources which it needs whilst giving little back in return - none of these transactions are even in the foreign currency Russia so desperately needs. Russia doesn't offer the market size for China's goods that even the US does.
China doesn't care if Russia is trying to add territory in Europe but it will care if Russia makes moves on the former Soviet Asian countries it has stated should return under the Russian umbrella.

I don’t have any such desire. You think Russia was provoked into invading-which is the most bewildering claim of all. Not a serious one but even so
