I don't think that at all. He's not the type to go quietly. So if he won't he'll have to go kicking and screaming. He's too dangerous just to be left to 'crack on'.

So we have to make it to the point where even the Russians can't ignore how bad he's made it for them. The problem with setting yourself up as the undisputed leader is that there's no-one else for the people to blame when it goes to shit. And it always does. Eventually the people stop believing the bullshit you spout and when they do who's their anger going to be aimed at.

Ultimately Putin will have to die. We just need to keep the pressure on until the Russians themselves remove him. As such as Russian expert as yourself will know, they've got form for it. We (the west) can't do it as the ingrained distrust and dislike of the west in Russia will just get worse.

But trying to placate him and copncede things to him because he's a bully and a psycho is pure madness.

I don't think Putin dying or being ousted from power would make much difference. I don't think this is all about one man. Often the importance of individuals is overstated in history. His replacement is not likely to be some enlightened democratic pacifist.

Ive not focused on his clothing at all? Frankly the language you use is childish - it’s like a school ground fight

My view is mediation is in the end the only solution. I think Russia were provoked into the war and I think Russia embroiled in a long expensive military conflict suits US foreign policy perfectly well - it views Russia as an enemy (it need not be) and the notion the US give a flying fuck about Ukraine or it’s citizens is so naive it’s embarrassing

He thinks Zelenskyy is Nobby from Grimsby. Come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough. Only this time Ukrainian Ben Afleck is on Nobby’s side.

You’ll be telling us next that Hitler was provoked into invading Poland, followed by a round of holocaust denial.

I'm not saying it will. Of course there's every chance one of the other nutters will seize their chance and this shit carries on.

But we know for sure with Putin in charge it will, and most likely get worse.

Plus if we can get it to a position where Putin is taken out by his own, maybe, just maybe it might make the next despot think twice.

I thought we couldn't get much worse than David Cameron to be honest but then Theresa May came along. OK, I thought, this has to be as bad as it gets, but no, then we get Boris Johnson.

Now I was really confident that we really couldn't sink any lower than that, but .... well yes you know what came next. And let's face it Sunak is not much better than Liz Truss in reality.

The point is there are loads of other Putinesque types vying for power when he goes.

Decent read on the BBC about the initial stage of the war

How Russia's 35-mile armoured convoy ended in failure

How Russia's plan to overthrow Ukraine's government ended in embarrassing failure.

Problem is (going back a long way before NATO membership was even considered) that Putin does not see Ukraine as a sovereign state.
The annexation of Crimea and involvement in Donbas & Luhansk in 2014 emphasizes this. Prior to these 2 events there was little appetite for NATO membership in Ukraine. These 2 events pushed Ukraine towards NATO but it's only the current invasion that saw Ukrainian public opinion finally sway towards backing NATO membership.

Precisely and the subsequent pushing of NATO and even the absurd suggestion that they could be considered for EU membership has meant the invasion risk was intensified
