You actually admit a settlement was agreed Tony. This is a war where no settlement is the solution isn’t it?

The agreement we brokered was before the war even started, about 10 years before IIRC.

Yes, but what stops them from piling a few more in. Smaller country. Easy 24/2/23 win? Strategic diversion could of course lead to escalation.

I hope Russia gets stuffed wherever they end up.

How would they get more troops in though?

The 1500 they do have there are mostly 'Dads Army' type troops I understand.

I think Ukraine could take it within days if they wanted to.

Yeah, it doesn't have a border with Russia and any more troops and armour would need to cross Western Ukraine

They have lots of supplies there and huge amounts of weapons apparently although most of it is believed to be soviet era and probably doesn't work!

Yeah 10 years before:

United Nations Security Council Resolution 186 - Wikipedia

en.wikipedia.org

Now if we only had the power to go back to 2012 t do the same thing in Ukraine then Grenners may have a point.

it's quite nice an peaceful there actually (I know a couple of United fans that's when they played in Moldova popped over the border) but it is like a 1991 and before time loop.

Not well versed in this but surely the fact we have troops still there - something Russia sees as a ‘Red Line’ - means the situations are not comparable?

It’s not comparable. Which is probably why someone brought it up.

Ukraine should give up now and hand over some territory

It’s a weird line of argument to criticise the country getting invaded more than the one invading-but you know that.

I've never said Ukraine should give up now have I? There is a huge difference between not supplying them with weapons and them giving up.

It's a given that the invasion is wrong, I don't need to keep repeating that Putin is a nasty man.

Well it’s Western supplied weapons that have kept them in the fight. More advanced weapons could tip the balance.

No one thinks Mr Putin is a good guy. I don’t think Mr Churchill and Mr Truman thought uncle Joe was actually a very enlightened liberal thinker but in the end you choose your enemies wisely

Well tony does it all the time - oddly google Gerry Adams and the Ira

Gerry Adams was still on IRA army council in 1994 – UK security adviser

Adviser also said ‘Slab’ Murphy had expressed reservations about ending violence

That's part of Ukraine fella, prior to the russian invasion in 2014 they russians thought this as well as they paid the Ukrainian government rent to lease a black sea base in Sevastapol.

You really need to do some research mate.

So now we expect a situation where Ukraine regain territory ceded 9 years ago - yes that seems a very likely scenario

Having an opinion is ruining a thread - that’s well - a bit undemocratic isn’t it?
