Ffs calm down, Farage is just trying to whip up hysteria so people phone his chat show! If he said its just a missile that went off course and tragically killed two farm workers, he'd have fuck all to talk about.

Do I trust Zelensky? Not entirely, no. He has a war to fight and part of that will be misinformation and propaganda to try and get support.

Do I trust him more than Nigel Farage?

Can't be long before they get a call from Ofcom. Although that's probably want they want as they can then claim they're being silenced.

Why does “free speech” and “free thinking” always mean “spouting baseless conspiracy theories pumped out by authoritarian regimes and the worst parts of the internet”?

Getting really tough now. Temps dropping, snow about and Russia bombing the hell out of the utilities.

They really need long range weapons to hit the bases firing these missile barrages. Russia has escalated with attacks on civilian infrastructure that are spilling over into Moldova. Time to take the gloves off frankly.

Think the issue is many of these missiles being launched by long-range bombers. Ukraine don't have the capacity to combat aircraft or reach the airstrips.

Exactly this. They never enter Ukrainian territory so the Ukrainians can’t attack them or the bases. Get a few long range missiles in and allow them to attack specific targets in Russia is about all they could do.

You do wonder if there should’ve been specific limited red lines set out at the start of the conflict such as risk to nuclear plants, attacks on civilians and energy infrastructure (which we know is civilian focussed)* etc and if crossed nato would act to protect/defend those specific areas by providing Ukraine with capabilities to do so. I’m sure Putin would’ve tried to use this against nato and maybe tried to call our bluff but he’s just using dirtier and dirtier tactics as he gets more desperate without any repercussions

*in addition to use of nuclear weapons

Red line seems very antiquated. The Russians are ruthless. they Need to be stopped. It seems they have been allowed to hit Ukraine just when the bloody horrid weather hits. I hope their soldiers freeze their balls off. There had to be a way of hitting Russia as a diversion. The Crimea may offer that. They need to hold on to the warm ports. The civilians suffer but each missile is one less to defend against. I’m hoping this is Ukraine taking time out for a ground offensive.

Yeah I’d agree. I think they’ve been too worried about escalation when we know Putin will just keep escalating anyway. It’s notable how those countries closest to Russia are the keenest to go hard early, they know how Russia works and that they only respect force.

Was reading a Twitter thread earlier that suggested the aim is attritional defence in the East (where it’s all mud and not but progress is likely right now, so just let the Russian keep throwing mobniks into the meat grinder) and what looks like prep for an offensive in the south to cut the Russians in two. I know Crimea isn’t particularly cold in the winter, so I assume the south coast is the same.

Marginally warmer but traffic will be limited to roads only (and they aren't plentiful) due to wet land. What will be tough for ground troops is the wind. "Arctic" winds that really cut through you. Crimea difficult to take plus Russia will take a much harder line on any incursion into Crimea - look at the large response when the bridge was bombed (and the airfield attack)

Ukraine needs to position itself to take out as many bods as possible. The Russians hitting Kiev is all bad but it doesn’t do anything regards the Ukraine forces offensive.

Ukraine is attempting to retake a crucial spit of land that could disrupt Russia's missile barrages

Russia has used the Kinburn Spit to fire missiles at Ukraine's Black Sea coast and control the Dnipro river mouth. Ukraine is now trying take it back.

Yeah Crimea is a whole other thing. I was more wondering about conditions on the south coast for any offensive to cut the land bridge.

Ukraine was actually a very corrupt country before the war. Just second to Russia in Europe.

Corruption in Ukraine - Wikipedia

In the corruption perception index for 2021 they were ranked 122/180

The UK were ranked 11th

Needs a little context.
Ukraine operating same as most of Eastern Europe did/does. A large historical black economy. Corruption is systemic rather than political ie didn't matter what type of political party in charge they were all at it.
Has been improving but major sticking point the judiciary that has blocked many reforms.
My experiences doing business there was cash was often needed to ensure efficiency rather than facilitate illegal activity.
