You’re missing the point. Brexit is nothing to do with the invasion but Russia is everything to do with Brexit. The people who sold it to the UK are awash with Russian money, pro Russian opinions and many of the more prominent members of the campaign from Martin Daubney to your avatar have done nothing but excuse Putin and big him up for years, ramping up desperately over the last 24 hours blaming the EU and NATO to an extent that would even have Corbyn tell them to stop talking bollocks.

Of course we’re grateful we’re not Boriski Johnson leader of the Conservative and Russian Federation Party. He more than anyone else has been in bed with the Devil and now the Devil is done with him the Devil is on his next crusade in destabilising Europe and the West by invading Ukraine. Only this time Boris won’t be able to be there to help him in that crusade despite his success helping him in his last crusade.

So your ideal way of handling a deranged, insane leader of a superpower is...leave him to it?

The public aren't with you on that and Tory voters even more so

The unexplained wealth orders to the sanctions is a bit locking the gate after the horse has bolted. We’ve allowed over 2500 Russians have £2M golden visas and if what James Cleverly said last night on Peston that was with little to zero due diligence. Although admittedly that could be James Cleverly not being over the details as per usual.

That’s not fair on James. I know he has the most ironic surname ever but he’s no grendull.

He also bears some resemblance to Nick Ferrari and Jim Davidson. Must be a conveyor belt of them somewhere

ITV reporting that Russian deaths outnumber Ukrainian at a 7:1 ratio. Good.

That won't be unexpected for the Russians. Russian capabilities as an offensive force are dated, and their military strength comes from sheer numbers rather than capability. As you say, it's good news on the face of it but russian acceptable level of loss is far far higher than it would be for us.

I heard a report earlier (I think someone else mentioned it on here earlier) that the Russian soldiers that had been dropped into the airport were bemused as they were fighting Ukrainian soldiers when they were led to believe that they’d be fighting a multinational NATO army.

It is good that Ukraine are, so far, suffering relatively low losses.

But a lot of those Russian losses are young men who don't want to be there. Just worth remembering I think.

A good point. They still have a draft in Russia for all men. They have to do at least 12 months in the army before they’re 28. Many of these soldiers will be there under obligation not choice.

I'd imagine most of the people fighting at the moment are their conscript force which makes up about 30% of their army .. they will have around half a million fully paid, well trained soldiers ready to go on call

Why is it good? Both army's are innocent just doing crazy people's bidding, can't exactly say no to Putin can you? End up in a execution line.

Maybe someone in the Kremlin will have the balls to prevent a nuclear war but putting a bullet in Putin's head and leading a coup. Surely they aren't all mad enough to let him take them to the apocalypse.

Be much better for him to have an embarrassing death, such as died on the toilet whilst constipated, or from multiple paper cuts.

I mean, are they wrong though? NATO is not really a defensive alliance is it?

What would the US do if a pro-russian government was put in place in Mexico and was about to join the CSTO, letting Russia build military bases there?

Russia has failed in its major objectives and lost over 450 troops, says defence secretary

Russia is "behind its hoped-for timetable" and the Russian army "has failed on day one to deliver its main objective".

More than 450 Russian troops have been killed so far, he said.

While it remains the UK's view that Russia intends to invade the whole of Ukraine, Mr Wallace said the Ukrainians have put up more of a fight than the Russians were expecting.

Russia had also failed to take a significant airport, he said.

From what I've seen it looks absolutely horrific out there and Putin is just one crazy motherfucker!

At what point will the UK likely get involved, I'm surmising if Russia decide to invade or attack a NATO country?

Russian ‘operatives’ now in Kiev and a call for residents to make Molotov cocktails and engage in, essentially, guerrilla warfare.

Utter madness.

Absolutely horrific images and clips from Ukraine, all thoughts are with the many innocent people who will lose their lives because of a backwards, egotistical nutter.

While it won’t result in direct loss of lives in the same way, don’t underestimate the importance of the cyber warfare that will be going on. Russia are strong in the cyber game and will have numerous APT’s attempting to attack key industries across the West. Ukrainian banking and key government areas, along with critical infrastructure will be being absolutely battered as we speak.

If tensions keep rising they will go for multinational FI’s at some point, and that’s when we might start seeing consequences in the UK.

It will also lead to amateur or less sophisticated hacking groups acting under the guise of Russian hackers attempting to take advantage of the situation and go on the offensive. Expect to see a massive increase in phishing attempts into your workplace/personal accounts.
