Yeah I'm not really sure how it all works either.

Presumably though it'll take years and years by which time most of the perpetrators, including Putin will have mysteriously 'fallen out of windows/capsized while on a boat trip/fallen off a mountain while hiking' etc

What actual powers does anyone have to prosecute war crimes? Cos there seems to be tons of evidence and the international community is just kinda whistling to itself in the corner.

Ive no idea how any of that works. Do they need to catch Putin somewhere out of Russia, are there no automatic sanctions or anything? Seems weird you can have a UN Security Council member just brazenly committing atrocities and no one bats an eyelid.

This is what I've often wondered too and I'd be interested to know the answer.
They've literally invaded another country illegally, committed clear war crimes that have been condemned globally and I imagine once the war is over, Putin will just go back to normal (depending on how it ends obviously).
Guess it depends how sanctions will work, or if not being at war anymore will end these and it's business as usual.

It's not going to be like a Saddam Hussein situation where he's put to death by his own people after the region is destablised

It’s supposed to be a preventative measure

They have absolutely destroyed Russia in the information war from day one. Which considering the stock the Russians put in SM distortion is impressive.

Hopefully the tide is turning in Russia. She is sole absolute megastar apparently.

Probably stay away from windows for a little while if I was her though!

Experts predicted a stalemate in Ukraine, here’s why they keep getting it wrong

To really help Ukraine, a clearer picture of the war’s dynamic is vital, says Orysia Lutsevych, head of Chatham House’s Ukraine Forum

Russian males aged 18-65 are going to get little sleep tonight. Putin's due to make an announcement around 6am our time, although it was due this evening and was eventually cancelled without reporters having any idea what was going on so we shall see.

Regions currently under occupation are going to hold referendums in the next few days (unless those in charge get blown up in the meantime) and will 'vote' to join Russia. That then means, in Russia's eyes, that any continued Ukrainian offensive against those regions will be a full on attack against Russia and mobilization will kick in and the 'special operation' will become war. I believe laws were created earlier today to give 10 year jail terms to people who refuse to fight when told, and the same for fighters who surrender.

It’s being suggested that he’s going to rush through an “impartial, free and fair” referendum on annexing parts of Ukraine currently under Russian occupation so he can claim that any further Ukrainian advances are an invasion by Ukraine forces on Russian sovereign territory.

He can do what he wants. His shit armed forces have already failed to succeed even with the advantage of being able to attack from 3 directions and a head start in Crimea and other separatist areas.

Some may well prefer a jail sentence to a death sentence

No one will take him seriously though. This all comes down to the nuclear gambit and whether a MoD chain between him and the nukes would let him do it. I think he’s more likely to get an icepick to the head TBH. They’ve been threatening nukes since the start cos they think the West will back off. Like the US gives a shit.

'Partial' mobilisation announced.

First admission that he's losing his 3 day war.

He's going to get killed off soon isn't he (hopefully)

300,000 reservists mobilised. Not a good look for Putin. That’s the official number anyway, you can pretty much guarantee that the actual number will be higher.

Belgorod, in actual Russia, and Crimea, in fake Russia have faced many Ukraine attacks and Russia has not upped the ante so his talk of nuclear weaponry is unlikely to be taken too seriously. Ukraine will continue doing its thing and more Russians will be sent in as cannon fodder.

He can mobilize these reserves but if they are headed to Ukraine doesn't change the underlying problems. Poor command structures, poor logistics etc. Haven't got the right kit for what troops they have there already.
Winter's coming and reserve troops aren't going to be particularly keen on that either.
Reserves start taking heavy losses then internal dissent will increase.

Exactly.

Sending 300k (it won't be that many anyway) people with little to no training and barely any decent equipment and under terrible command.

A lot of their actual reserves are already in Ukraine, so these are the dregs, not real soldiers by any means. A load of old men who don't want to be there certainly isn't going to turn the tide.

You don’t think it will be more? Think about it. He can’t say he isn’t mobilising the reserves when in reality he’s mobilising tens if not 100’s of thousands of them. People are going to notice, he can’t sell that lie. So he tells them he’s mobilising 300,000 and blames everyone else while actually mobilising much more. It’s clear Russia can’t win this war with their outdated, failing equipment. He might be able to win it with weight of numbers though. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he’s intending on mobilising more. Many more.

Fortunately for young Russian men some logistics are still working

Flights leaving Russia sell out after Putin announces mobilization

The cost of flights to destinations like Istanbul are up sharply compared earlier this week.

There’s no way Putin can Zerg rush his way to victory. Certainly not while maintaining control over the population.

There was a military expert on this morning saying the earliest the guys called up will reach Ukraine is the spring even if they send them with the absolute minimum training and kit. Whats the plan until then, just hang on and then throw people at it?

You have to feel the mood could very quickly change in Russia from one of not really paying much attention to the conflict to being very much against it when peoples relatives are being sent as cannon fodder.
