According to wiki most are owned by Russian and Ukraine and one by the UAE it flew straight down the centre of the country and was over the south coast, I couldn’t tell from its markings who owned it unfortunately

I certainly don't think the military ones would be welcome at the moment.

I must admit that spotting a large, obviously Russian aircraft coming over the horizon might make me feel a tad twitchy.

It was alone and I would imagine if Russian it would have had some fighters escorting it.

I’m sure one flew overhead in February or March time and it was confirmed as being on an aid mission.

I can categorically tell you it wasn't a Russian flight, just the same make. It's my bag at work, and is certainly not russian operated.

I'm not sure today's mutual military aid agreement with Sweeden and Finland is a good idea. Those countries arnt in NATO, so If Russia were to attack them, and we go to their aid, and our troops are engaged by Russian forces, what do NATO do?
This could be a fast track to NATO getting involved in military conflict directly with the Russian military, which is not something that I'd be actively encouraging at the moment, especially given Putin's state of mind.

Yes just best let Putin 'crack on with it' and invade where he likes, commit as many war crimes as he likes, and only intervene if he sets foot in Estonia

I'm not saying we should do nothing, that's completely missing my point (although it's not the first time you've read one of my posts and completely misunderstood it) it seems a bit of unnecessary sabre rattling from Bojo to go out on a limb unilaterally without NATO or the UN support.
Almost as if he wants his own Churchill moment.

Have we actually said aid in terms of British boots on the ground? I haven’t read the details yet but from the headline I took it to mean military aid in the same vain of the aid we’ve given to Ukraine. Which if I’ve gotten that that right I’ll give Boris some credit for it. The nuclear deterrent is currently looking pretty useless against Putins aggression towards it’s neighbours. The thought of another ground invasion against a motivated and well equipped army on the other hand is probably the best deterrent against Putin.

Ah yes you were the anti vaxxing loon from a while ago, I remember. You're saying it's dangerous for us to commit to helping defend somewhere Putin feels like invading.

If he sends a tank into Estonia we're fine to risk Armageddon because of the relevant piece of paper but he is trying to erase Ukraine from existence and we are mere spectators.

Some good news tonight that the Russians are in reverse around Kharkiv - Ukrainian troops just have to watch out for booby traps - sadly no news on the Mariupol troops left - thoughts are with them and their families

Russia’s reputation as an elite fighting force has been completely trashed. They’re stuck in WW2 and think weight of numbers is good enough for victory. The world has moved on.

No, but I feel we need to. That's 1000 less troops raping women and children and shooting and killing innocent civilians

Course it’s the nature of warfare for those not on our side to be made out to be monsters and those on our side to be brave and courageous.

It's not every Russian soldier obviously. But there have been many, many reports of women and children raped and killed and innocent civilians shot even when surrendering.

It's a war their country started for no reason other than to wipe their neighbour off the map. There were those in the Wehrmacht who tried to assassinate Hitler and others who found ways to disobey heinous orders.

It is always possible to refuse to do what deep down you understand is wrong. If they really believe Ukraine is full of Nazis somehow headed by a Jewish president then their deaths are inconsequential

I get exactly where you're coming from, Pete. It never feels right to celebrate slaughter.

Some of those Russian soldiers though, seem to be willing to act in ways so terrible that they deserve everything they get, and more. Some are also going to be frightened teenagers that don't want to be there and would probably do anything to just go home.

The one thing I would say though, is that there seems to be such a high level of war crimes that it has to be a deliberate policy, perhaps to terrify and cow the occupied areas. It's horrific.

It'll likely never happen, but I wouldn't shed many tears if Putin ended up with a short rope and a long drop.

I'm not someone who supports the death penalty at all, even for such clear atrocities as this, as it just brings the normal people more in line with the nutcases and we should rise above it, but the world will be a better place when Putin is no longer part of it. But I feel that end needs to come at either his own or the Russian people's hand.

Its not celebrating, it's just reporting news.

Those troops are illegally invading Ukraine, what Ukraine have done in the reported instance is legitimate warfare defending themselves from incoming military force. Unlike the Russians and all the war crimes they have and are committing - targeting civilian areas, kidnapping of people, rape of children and women, committing genocide, murdering civilians in cold blood that have surrendered and are bound and defenceless.

Whilst I dont celebrate anyone dying, those 1000 deaths are all on Putin.

I also saw reports of them raping men and then killing them. It’s hardly a war either, it’s an unprovoked invasion.
