There's quite a bit of fighting and the nature of these things is the invaders will likely see early gains until things become more bogged down

Looks like they've been caught off guard by the types of attack particularly on where the Russians are striking in the west of the country.
We're seeing plenty of coverage here of attack helicopters operating at low levels.
Reports here of Russian ground troops saying they believed they were actually going to be facing NATO forces in Ukraine. Apparently info coming from ethnic Hungarian areas in Ukraine.

Welsh Labour MP removes name from Stop the War letter after threat of losing whip

A Welsh Labour MP who signed a statement by Stop the War has removed her name after being told she could lose the Labour whip. Labour briefed that the Shadow Chief Whip had written to all 11 Labour MPs on the list, including Beth Winter the MP for Cynon Valley. Their names later disappeared from […]

So what are the realistic outcomes here?

Either ww3 Or let Russia conquer ukraine and hope they stop after ukraine?

Meanwhile Mr Lammy the shadow foreign secretary who is very vocal about oligarchs sponsoring the Tory party is not returning his appearance fees for appearing on the Russia state sponsored TV channel

Destroy the Russian economy and supply the Ukraine with enough aid so they can keep fighting long enough that it gets so bad in Russia Putin loses power.

Already divisions on sanctions. Germany in particular not keen on removing Russia from the SWIFT system ( basically because of how much trade there is between the 2 countries - seemingly mainly energy and automative).

Yeah, just reading that. We’re pushing for Russia to be taken off Swift but Germany and I think Italy aren’t keen. This needs to happen as does the asset freeze on anyone with connections with Putin (still not clear if this is happening here or to what level ?!). Things like Swift and reducing gas purchases will hurt Russia over time but freezing assets of Putins cronies and stopping them from travel etc will deliver a direct visible message

Has Boris returned the £160K he took from Putins finance ministers wife for a game of tennis. This isn’t a rabbit hole you want to go down because the weight of numbers isn’t in your favour.

US sending more troops to Europe to defend NATO allies should put to bed the "No one will do anything if Putin attacks a NATO country" nonsense. Johnson also confirm we would act as well.

Will that work? Seems putin doesn't care about sanctions?

What if Putin just come and says stop aiding ukraine and stop crippling us or we will declare war on you.

Does everyone back down then to prevent World War 3?

Yeah, was listening to Biden but got the impression it’s not his decision not to implement it yet (that’s what it sounded like after he got a question on it anyway). I think this might still happen soon though just hasn’t been finalised

Good grief.

Quick tell us about some obscure Labour policy from 30 years ago that validates Putin's invasion

Like Hungary 1956 Czech public memories of 1968 are still very emotive. But won't be surprised if it is the Czech and Hungarian leaders who start the calls for rebuilding relationships etc when it is politically less risky to do so. Both have been courting a lot of Russian & Chinese Govt investment over past 12-18 months.

It will take Russian military crossing into a neighbouring NATO country for any of the block to intervene in terms of fighting. Can't personally see that happening, however, I wouldn't make any bets on that...

Which goes to my first question that the options look like ww3 or let ukraine be conquered by Russia.

Is there any other ways out of this?

It's not that he cares or not about sanctions. It's more that conditions for the people in Russia including those close to him become so bad Putins power slips.

There will be no WW3 as we won't directly fight in the Ukraine and Putin won't attack a NATO country as that triggers actual conventional war which he can't win.

Nuclear weapons are a nonsense as well as no one is going use them knowing they'll destroy their own country as well.
