“the two players with the ability to unlock defences” because, of course, Foden, Palmer, Eze are completely incapable. If you think that’s the issue we’re facing then you’re miles off.

That's not what I said though is it, if that's what you infer (and you appear to be the only one) then your miles off.

I don’t know if it was just a stupid gamble hoping he’d be fit in time. Suppose an option was Tyrick Mitchell from Palace. At least there’d have been a dynamic with him and Guehi.

‘Dynamic’ - something we’re completely lacking all over.
Well that was my thinking. Mitchell would have least have had an understanding with Guehl wouldn't he and Southgate has picked him before for England.

Did you know Georgia only qualified because they won their nations league group in 2022 and earned a playoff semi final place for this euros ?

They finished 4th in their qualifying group

They beat Luxembourg and Greece in the playoffs

Decent pen for Georgia.

I might start supporting them.

“We could be out of the competition before Shaw is fit, and yet we leave out the 2 players with the ability to unlock defences.”

Literally your words. Can’t mean anything else.

An unusually good BBC article dismantling Southgate's bullshit.

Are England too tired to press? Here's the key stats

BBC Sport looks at the data on how tired England's players might be and their lack of pressing at Euro 2024.

It means we've taken a player who we know is unfit, and yet we've not been able to take 1 of the 2 players with the ability to unlock a defence and turn a game round.
And yes I think those 2 would be better than what we've seen so far.

Poor defending by Georgia on that goal, at least 3 in the box like statues, only the Czech player gambled and it paid off

And now should be 2-1 Czech from the very next corner

This is what you want from journalists, a proper analysis. Fabregas talks sense and probably provides some some of the better technical studio analysis and as he said, if one players not pressing (kane) the rest are fucked…they’ll just get passed around

Kane obviously isn’t fit but hopefully getting more minutes in his legs will help (I’ve always felt he’s slow returning from injury). He needs to be told to stop dropping deep into no 10 areas where we’re already congested and focus energy on initial press and staying further up to stretch things and leave space for our skill players to exploit. Hopefully a couple of tweaks, maybe pace of Gordon on left and maybe foden/palmer nearer to kane in middle will also help

If Southgate is worried about tiredness, give Bellingham a breather and stick Wharton in there. We need Bellingham to be firing in the knock out games to have any chance

How can they not be fit? They're off the back of a season, how much fitness can you loose in a few weeks?!?

It's true though, who decides to "experiment" at a major tournament?

So, what is it? Is it tactics, is it mentality?

Surely when you've just scored, your mentality can't be to just sit back and try and protect it. Not if you've got any ambition to win anything. So, it HAS to be tactics, doesn't it?

I think Southgate is genuinely a vampire. He's sucked all the life out of this team, that's for sure.

Where was the urgency? Where was the energy? Where's the pace? It's just safe, slow passes, and even then, it was sloppy.

I have no idea how that works
Are the players so shit that they can’t pass a ball because their coach is defensive minded????
I think we’re being too hard on the coach and nowhere near hard enough on the players

Never pass it back between your own sticks, especially if you don’t know where the keeper is

Putting it back any general direction towards goal unaware is pretty stupid. Let alone on target.
