Expect England to improve in the next two group games.

Crazy stat though with England only winning one out of the last ten opening Euro games (if I heard that correctly)

Glad that's over and done with. Good 20 minutes, below average 70 minutes. Favourites, really?

Southgate is a magician.

Turned Premier league players into a Conference team.

Comment on Betfair.

They need to stop asking fabregas what Spain would have done , they were one of the best international teams ever ffs

It's a win, but...

We had, what, a half hour spell in the first half at the most where we looked comfortable and able to control it, when they were sitting deep trying to frustrate us. Once we scored, we just seemed to drop deeper, and they grew into it.

Second half we couldn't get any control on the game at all, sloppy passing, poor decision making, we didn't look at all confident.

Result is all that really matters, I guess, but we're going to need to be a lot better than that. Foden was a massive disappointment tonight, absolutely anonymous all game.

Fuck it a wins a win. Can't really judge a team off the first group game, Argentina did ok after losing to the Saudis at WC after all.

Can't see us winning this but I'm sure we will get better

Thing is though we have the players to make Serbia look shit.

They were one of the worst teams in qualifying in one of the worst groups.

And we looked totally toothless against them.

Defence did well. Serbia didn’t really have a decent chance all game.

Foden was appalling and tactically we looked miles off it.

The panel touched on southgates negativity , you can't avoid it unfortunately .. these are top top players playing In themselves .

Hopefully we grow into the tournament

Pity it’s taken some people years to realise this.

They were just showing the penalty shout slowed down and it looked like it should have been given…although would have been harsh.

I thought it was a penalty and again there's the inconsistency in relation to what VAR looks at.

I don't think Shaw is fit enough but otherwise I'd agree.

It'll be Mainoo for Trent though I'd imagine.

Consistently we come out, look good get a goal then retreat into our shells. No coincidence. The very same thing cost us a tournament win in 2021

Feels like we go a goal up , then he demands we play compact and hope for moments on the counter , no coincidence as you say it started after we scored

Am I the only one who thought we managed their possession really well?
People become blind to the good things we do if the expected blood lust of goals doesn't materialise.
Never gonna be an award winning performance but I've seen us scrape a result by the skin of our pants many times previous but this one certainly wasn't.

Though Serbia had a lot of possession, Pickford didn't really have much to do for the most part. Thought we defended pretty well

Just annoying that we did sit back a bit and then when we got the ball back, we were sloppy in possession.

But I did think Serbia pressed and played with energy in the second half, but didn't actually pose that much of a threat.

Not at all, certain player needs to play better. Gifted players like foden giving the ball away cheaply is nothing to do with Southgate

I’d like him to make changes quicker. It’s a massive problem of his. Dictate/direct the game, make the opposition think aboht things, Eze should’ve been on as sub after 70 for starters

Great to get a win in the first game though.

I think laying all the blame solely on Southgate is giving some of the players a very easy ride for simply not playing well. Foden was awful and it wasn’t purely down to the tactics.

Just saw the highlights again on RAI and I agree with you. Initially I was looking at Pickford to see if he catches his leg first, but actually Trippier appears to push him/smash into him. Italian pundits seem to think it's a genuine talking point.

Safe to say England won't win the Euros under Southgate & his 'score 1 goal let's go defensive' shit tactics - he'd put his phone on low battery mode if it was at 99%

Who doesn’t always have their phone in low battery mode? Barely makes a noticeable difference and lasts way longer

Yes our commentators are so biased as they immediately dismissed it and it was never a talking point. If it had been the other way round there would have been outrage.
