It's a good goal the second one, you can almost tell that Eccles has had a bit of time playing senior football from the clip

Same from the other night. Just seemed calm on the ball whereas everyone had a youthful exuberance of 100% an hour

It would be a shame if Eccles doesn't get a chance with us, but if we end up signing James and Sheaf its difficult to see where he fits in. He's certainly providing MR with some food for thought though.

Looking at Eccles he may well save MR money in midfield and allow it to be spent elsewhere in the team.

Then why was he not automatic first choice at Gillingham? Our good loans have commanded a place in the team.

It is upto Eccles when he gets his chance to take it and elbow others out of the way, cut throat business being a footballer, but he is a very good prospect.

You won’t get many goals especially at this level where fingers can’t be pointed at mistakes or poor play either individually or team wise doesn’t make them poor players.

The step up from under 23’s to the championship is huge. Eccles did ok at Gillingham but he didn’t rip up trees. Let’s not get carried away.

Sky Blues Under-23s Head Coach Luke Tisdale, was delighted after his side came away with three points against Sheffield Wednesday.

City fell behind early on under freak circumstances, as the wind held the ball up for Wednesday’s full-back to fire past Tom Billson.

However, an inspired second half performance, by Josh Eccles in particular, who scored twice to help complete a turnaround, secured the win for the 23s.

“It’s been a long time coming.” Tisdale said.

“In loads of games this season we’ve been really unfortunate by either conceding a late equaliser, or a sloppy goal and we didn’t do that today, so I’m delighted for the players.

“At half time you’re thinking here we go again to an extent because they take the lead through a very fortunate goal, because the wind holds the ball up and allows him to head into the back post.

“But saying that, we knew we weren’t out of it and that we were going to create chances and at half time we said someone needed to take the game by the scruff of the neck and Josh Eccles has done that in the second half.

“He’s scored two great goals and he could’ve had a hat-trick, but it was a great result and there were some really good individual performances.”

Josh has come back into the side since his loan spell at Gillingham and has shone for the 23s, becoming top scorer as the midfielder has added goals to his game.

His brace proved the difference on the day, as after he put the Sky Blues in front, the side managed to keep at the Owls at bay for the remaining half hour.

“I thought we ran more than we have done in previous weeks and we wanted to defend, and we held our shape and managed the game really well to get over the line.

“Jack Burroughs has come back in at right-back as well and done a great job and Blaine Rowe has moved over to centre-back and put in a very good performance as well, so there are a lot of pleasing things.

“I think you can tell the difference in the likes of Jack, Josh and Jordan Young who have come back from loan. It has had a big impact on the boys because they’ve all done reasonably well and hopefully Declan Drysdale is doing well at Cambridge.

“If Josh plays like that consistently every week, then there’s no reason why he can’t be playing men’s football week in week out very quickly.”

The Sky Blues gave two Trialists opportunities yesterday, as Luke begins to cast his thoughts to next season and finding the future talent for the under-23s.

“We had a few trialists in this week, as we have one eye on next year, so we have brought some lads in to see how they can impact the group.

“I thought both of the trialists played really well and they ran around and done their jobs. It’s not easy coming in and playing after three days, because there’s a lot of pressure on them to do well and play well for the team.

“We will continue to take a look at some other lads over the coming weeks and Pete Wilding has come in as the 16-20 recruitment lead and that’s one of the great things for us because we can start to take a look at some new faces.”

Note the words men’s football ... not first team football at this club.

Who knows. They did have 5 players or more on loan though so that may have had a bearing

Looks like Jobello playing LWB, no surprise he's not particularly positionally aware in that role tbf. I see Tisdale's commented that it was a bit of a freak goal where the cross got caught in the wind.
