I've got them down as U16. I think Ward is a schoolboy as well - just not sure of his first name. It's either Ben or George I think.

George Ward is a 2nd year scholar, one of only 3 on the pitch. 3 16s started also. Good strong performance

Definitely a good start with such a young team. Not heard of either of the right sided players at all.

On youthwiki one of the games had a Ben Ward starting for us last year some time - assume it was someone getting it wrong. Wasn't mentioned in the scholars thing on the website recently though - has he joined recently?

Thanks for the update and nice to see George had the armband.

The U18s beat Bolton 5-2 two weeks ago but lost 2-0 to Barnsley at the weekend. They have started the season with 2 wins and 3 defeats.

Haven’t checked if it’s been posted but the new U18 coach is Karl Hooper who joined after Birmingham restructured their academy. Andy Crabtree who was at the club for a long time went in the opposite direction but I don’t think it was linked.

Hooper was promoted to Blues U23s coach under Lee Clark at just 25 years old and is supposed to be a really good young progressive coach.

Academy coach Karl Hooper is relishing big Blues break

Youthhawk think Jones is Reece Jones from Stoke who would be a second year scholar after completing his first year at Stoke where he didn’t get much game time. @Sky_Blue_Dreamer

Yeah I had seen that. I assume you're referring to my post about the RB from WBA? In which case I was referring to Adam Taylor

NEWS: Introducing The Sky Blues Academy Scholars

EDIT: Just realised you were talking about my comment about who the right sided players were. Apologies.

Yes they also bought in Ward from Strachan who I believe is a second year aswell as alluded to above. Neither have been included in an U23 squad & younger players have so I wonder if they have just bought in for numbers to keep the team competitive unless they impress a lot.

23s play Blues at St.Andrews tomorrow in a designated away fixture. They are currently unbeaten but haven’t had to play a Friday fixture where the fringe first team players like Bakayoko, Biamou and Wakefield may not be available due to first team commitments. 1:30 kick off

Some restructuring within the Under 23s.

Jason Farndon is now ‘First Team technical coach’ and ‘Head of Under 23s player development’ and Luke Tisdale is now Head Coach of the Under 23s. Farndon is already known to most supporters but Luke Tisdale used to be lead Youth Development Phase coach (12-16) and was assistant to Farndon last season so there is a pathway for coaches as well and belief in their methods from the manager and club.

NEWS: Coventry City announce restructuring to the coaching set up

Lower down U18s assistant Andy Whing has left to become first team coach at Russell Slade’s Hereford.

What’s a strange move? And I kind of lost interest and enjoyment in CCFC and general football for a bit with things going on in my life

Lost 7-0 at home to Palace yesterday with a reasonably strong team including Ngandu and Bapaga.

1-0 down. Playing the same way as the first team i.e when we attack with speed we look good, once it slows down we struggle.

HT: 4-0 down.
2nd goal: Good play from their man on a short corner to dribble past one and smash it in.
3rd: Defenders let striker have open header in the box
4th: Bad pass from keeper, Milwall CM picks it up and scores from 25 yards. Keeper should've done better with the shot.

The young Sky Blues have been drawn against Walsall at home in the FA Youth Cup

Game will probably be at somewhere like Leamington

Right? What good are predictive models built on historical data?

This is why each morning I leave my house by a random window or door. I mean yesterday the front door led to ground level, but really how do we know? We’ll have to wait and see.

Do they normally play the FA Cup games at Leamington rather than Higgs?

“As previously announced, Academy Manager Rich Stevens has moved on to a similar position at West Bromwich Albion. The process for replacing Rich has taken place. We had a really strong set of applications, of which we shortlisted six. An interview panel of myself, Mark Robins and Mick Halsall, Head of Academy Coaching, interviewed each of the shortlisted candidates and were impressed by all of the presentations that they made to us, which gave us a tough decision. However, we have offered the position to one of the six candidates, who has accepted, and we hope to be in a position to announce imminently.“

From Boddy in the programme last night
