People like Newsom and Davey can jump up and down and say we should do this or that but ultimately Trumps petulant and impulsive so you probably have to suck it up and do what’s necessary (publicly*) to keep him onboard whilst shoring up defence, reducing reliance on US etc especially with mid terms in a few months. I’d imagine various nato/G7 leaders have agreed different roles in trying to manage the relationship
