He would have to win the nomination, there are other candidates, I think DeSantis is in with a shout.

It’s meaningless if recent events have already shown that everything can be torn up on the whims of whoever’s in the White House. Why would you place any long-term confidence in a country where someone like Trump has won two of the last three elections?

And the money from that sale has been put into an account in Qatar. Away from any accountability or scrutiny for Trump to do as he pleases with.

So essentially Trump has kidnapped a head of state and then stolen £500m from that country. Absolutely fucking mental.

He is building an obscene level of family money with the crypto stuff as well. It’s not just live in luxury for the rest of their lives it’s GDP level stuff. I wonder for what..?

Said similar after the Trump assassination attempt. Think the difference would be Vance would be more of an isolationist than a expansionist. Interesting that he has largely been sidelined on many foreign policy issues over the 18 months or so - Gaza, Iran, Greenland Ukraine

It's why he loves Putin so much. The ability to stay in power whilst accumulating unprecedented wealth. Musk gave an interview for a couple of years ago when he said he wasn't the richest man in the world - Putin was.

He really is a disgrace. Apparently the USA have never got anything from NATO…the only time article 5 has ever been activated was after the Twin Towers.

Sure plenty of countries will be interested in his theory that if you help a country in war time you then have a right to own it.

It really is time European actually stood up to him rather than pandering to him and not calling out his lies and misrepresentation.

It's not necessarily a problem.

The EFL will probably treat the early end to the season in the same way as they did with Covid, so we will get promoted on the basis of PPG up to that point.

Do you think Trump lies awake at night reciting enemies, like Arya Stark in Game of Thrones...

"Macron, Starmer, Europe, Denmark, Biden, NATO, Fed Chairman, Switzerland, Minnesota...

Macron, Starmer..."

It's fucking bizarre. He's literally been rambling for an hour troubling himself with nary a single fact. Most powerful man in the world. God save us...

btw I recommend reading the BBC fact checking on the speech. You can picture the people typing it wanting to let rip and having to restrain themselves.

Exhibit A...

Trump: I don't see windfarms in China
BBC: the largest windfarm in the world is in China.

Only interesting snippet in the long ramble is confirmation that he wouldn’t try to take Greenland by force

I'm sure the US won't take Greenland by force, but don't bet that he won't make the threat again.

That's the problem. They've come to the conclusion (rightly or wrongly) that you have to play on his ego and narcissism

Not sure what the alternative is. People like Newsom and Davey can jump up and down and say we should do this or that but ultimately Trumps petulant and impulsive so you probably have to suck it up and do what’s necessary (publicly*) to keep him onboard whilst shoring up defence, reducing reliance on US etc especially with mid terms in a few months. I’d imagine various nato/G7 leaders have agreed different roles in trying to manage the relationship

Mark Carney's done the right thing by Canada anyway. Who knows, maybe the EU can cosy up to China as well.

Everyone’s got different situations/things to play for though. Canada has a load of natural resources and Carney has made tough calls like changing Canadas net zero policy because of situation with US. Does Canada/Carney care as much as we/Europe do about Ukraine etc ?

The EU previously cosied up to China and Russia and have been paying the price recently when trying to ween itself off the over reliance

We/europe have left ourselves exposed and appear to live in this ideological world rather than the real world. Finally we’re waking up a bit

The USA has a history of purchasing and annexing territory from other countries.
The last significant purchase was the Danish Virgin Isles in 1917.
That was a deal that saved the Danes money, a Greenland deal will cost the Danish state a lot of lost mineral wealth unless an arrangement about them can be concluded that benefits all parties.
