Homelessness
Suicide
No safety net
Less police
Pretty much continued austerity to greater levels
The biggest problem is inequality and it’s escalating

Ahh yes. Stopping subsidies to the greenest most cost effective way to generate electricity while continuing subsidies to the second most expensive form of generation. That will help those most in need.

Wow harsh
You have no idea what kind of life and challenges I’ve faced or the challenges I’ve put myself through to help others less fortunate than me you cheeky fucker
I’m very aware of the dangers of paternalism and recognise a lot that progress towards removing or reducing poverty comes from those who are in that position but don’t beat those who recognise their blessedness and still try to do what they can for those around them

In fact here you go mate you can get involved in any of these should you wish to try and identify meaningful solutions to practical issues that those living in poverty face

I’m very aware of how lucky I am thank you and try and put back enormously

I choose to live in a world full of hope as there is so much kindness and love to share. To suggest I’ve never faced any challenge is just completely wrong but you don’t give a shit you just like to stir

Sorry to monopolise for a bit but my wife and I must have done something right

just received a text from my daughter who’s just started her first teaching job in Coventry. Yr5 with some serious challenges and today was difficult for various reasons

her response was to look at charities in Coventry that she could give to that her 9-10 year olds would think were worthwhile and helpful so she’s set up four direct debits to carriers of hope, coffee tots, Coventry foodbank and myton

That’s what fills me with hope Grendel. That our children’s generation look at what’s wrong and don’t shrug or think what’s the point in believing a different future is possible and just get on and do what they can

It’s nothing to do with that it’s how people think - though actually it’s inconceivable it could be worse.

In the early 80’s I lived for 18 months on what was apparently the most violent and impoverished estate in the UK. It would be really funny seeing you spout your shit to these people.

Well it is conceivable isn't it? I actually conceived it just a few posts before. And I was only covering the big stuff - there are so many other ways in which it could (and would) get worse for them under Reform.

And I know full well that people in these situations wouldn't believe me. Most wouldn't even listen. Doesn't mean I'd be wrong. Only time can prove that. Like if you went back to early 1930's Germany and told them things could get worse under Hitler, many wouldn't listen or believe you. And things in Germany at that time were much, much worse than here right now. But it did get worse didn't it...

The modern left has given up on arguing policy, it just either calls everyone they don’t like Nazis.

Net migration was 50k in 1997, the Huma Rights Act wasn’t on the statute books and I’m pretty sure we weren’t living in a dystopian fascist country.

Farage, Tice and Zia Yusef are all Thatcherite at heart, comparisons to Hitler and ‘1930s Germany’ is plainly ridiculous.

Zarah Sultana came out and called Labour asylum polices ‘fascist’ in parliament. SBD had just compared a Farage government to 1930s Germany and Hitler.

That narrative has been copied and pasted from various figures on the left, be it Labour left, Your Party/Independents, LD or Greens.

The irony of an ad hominem attack in your first paragraph. May I remind you of the treatment Labour had in the 2019 election campaign?

The LOTO accused of being a Russian spy. Lots of references to commies (and therefore Stalin) or even socialism which wasn't even what Labour was offering.

To bring it back to the thread topic, the current President attempted to overturn an election result and prevent the transfer of power. In the run up to last year’s election, he said it was his ‘right’ to interfere in the election. He has spent his time filing bogus lawsuits against the press to extort money from them if they say things he doesn’t like. The Supreme Court have declared that anything he does is legal if it is an ‘official act’ while he has said that only he can decide what is legal or not.

That’s a small taster plate for now, but you tell me how you would describe a leader who does those things. Fascist pig seems appropriate.

We were talking about Farage/Reform mind.

This is exactly what I’m talking about, someone can be authoritarian without being fascist. Trump has upheld the constitution so far and is not a fascist. Any insistence that he is looks ridiculous when he’s governed for 5 years now.

The fascist line works well in ‘liberal left’ echo chambers, not so much in the real world.

I’m sure if Keir Starmer refused to transfer power, incited riots and said it was his right to interfere with elections you’d be covering for him in the same way.

Trump interfered with an election and tried to stop the transfer of power. Yes or no?

No, I wouldn’t be calling Starmer a fascist. On a v fundamental way, you’re not only missing the point I’m making, you’re proving it right.

If you want to call Trump authoritarian or dictatorial, then use those exact words. George Orwell decried that ‘fascism’ no longer has a meaning because, respectfully, many people including yourself throw around this word

When someone like Nick Fuentes arrives on the scene and Republicans from Romney to Trump to Charlie Kirk have been called ‘fascists’… you have no word to describe the difference between an actual ethno-nationalist and conservative, what then?

Imagine in the UK where an actual fascist became mainstreamed and because we’ve spent the whole time calling people from Shabana Mahmood to Nigel Farage ‘fascists’, the word is stripped of meaning.

So they've apologised for that.

The question you really want to ask yourself, is whether it's unfair of the BBC to portray Trump as someone who tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election?

As to the bias thing, is it possible that this isn't really about BBC bias, it's about them talking about things that you'd rather they didn't? That isn't bias, old chap, that's you taking offence at something you'd rather not see on the TV.

I didn’t use the descriptor until Trump started acting like one, so late 2019. I haven’t actually used it to describe Farage or Mahmood because for me they don’t hit the threshold. Nick Fuentes is a Neo Nazi.

For me Trump comfortably meets the requirements to be described as a fascist. Uber nationalist economic and social policies, intimidation of the press, election interference, denial of the right to due process, declaring that only he can decide what the law is, intimidation of the judiciary and so on and so on. He’s a disgrace to his office and should be in prison.

Let’s get this straight:

Trump = fascist
Fuentes = neo-Nazi

In your view, what’s the material difference between the two?

Fuentes has openly expressed support for Hitler alongside fatso-level anti Semitism. Trump is a traditional fascist, more of a Mussolini type.

Talking of Nazis ... has anyone seen Frank Sanazi? Not sure how much you could do with that character, but seen an initial 10 mins of him online, but worth a watch on YT.

Edit: think the act might be a few years old, just came up on my feed, so I'm late to the party on it. Made me laugh anyway.
