Not sure what that's got to do with either of the posts you've quoted. I do indeed think the President of the USA has the soft power to heavily influence, at the very least, the actions of a country like Israel.

Its entirely possible to think that and not think its a good look to do a 'victory' lap in Israel slapping yourself on the back and boasting how you armed a genocide.

And of course we're yet to see if the war has ended. We all hope it does but this isn't the first ceasefire and there's already multiple instances of Israel killing Palestinians after the implementation of the ceasefire.

Biden was still around long enough to have put an end to it if it was as easy as some would have you think.

Who knows why he didn’t, but Trump had 4 years to get the US out of Afghanistan. He didn’t, Biden did relatively quickly.

US was involved in Afghanistan for 20 years before they eventually cut their losses. Big Don is already talking about going back in.

Because its not as easy as the SBT politic thread commentators would have you think? Either that or he didn't want to. Which is worse?

Where have i rimmed Trump my friend? I barely comment in these sections as i find people i generally get along with quite well become, to quote you, quite nauseating. I'm finding it interesting that we at least seem to be close to the outcome most claim to have wanted but they don't seem happy about it for some reason because Trump played a part. As i say, if it was easy, could Biden not have resolved it? Its not a trick question. It's either complicated and he wasn't able to, or he didn't want to.

I think it’s because he and his party, like Trump and his, have been bought out by AIPAC. I assume Trump will have had to make a fair concession to them for Israel’s massacre of civilians to be put on hold, but I’m assuming that it won’t be a lengthy respite. 65,000 killed and more starved is a good return so far.

Netanyahu and his cabinet are bloodthirsty war criminals, I can see how getting the hostages out is good PR for them before the killing restarts.

Deep down they know it, they just can't bring themselves to admit it. Hence the latest round of whataboutism.

I was going to say, i mean its a conspiracy theory so i'm not saying i buy it, but many would have you believe Israel holds power over the US rather than vice versa. So clearly that's more tricky.

I doubt we'll ever see true peace it that part of the world honestly and that's absolutely not just because of Israel. I see Hamas have already been openly executing people in the streets... the best we can hope for is an uneasy truce where people would just rather live than die so keep it 'civil'.

It’s what ordinary people want on both sides but psychos in power on both sides will do their best to prevent it.

It isn’t a fatso-esque conspiracy theory when you look at how much money AIPAC funnels into American politics. They donate big time to both parties, now less to the Democrats as their voters have more sharply turned against what Israel is doing. Trump himself received $100 million towards his 2024 election from the Adelson family, who put in similar for 2016. AIPAC also funds campaigns against those few US politicians who speak against Israel.

Clearly that money doesn’t go in for no reason or go unacknowledged. It has allowed Israel a free pass to commit crimes which if they were committed by, let’s say, Iran, would have triggered a coup or even ground invasion. Trump bombed them because Netanyahu asked him to.

Absolutely. Most civilians just want to eat 3 meals a day, spend time with their family and not be killed. In that part of the world the latter seems to be more difficult.

Mostly because Israel won’t let any food or medical supplies in, bombed all the housing and hospitals, and snipe at people queuing for whatever relief there is. The regime which did that is still in charge.

Well Hamas celebrated this supposed end to the war by executing people they claim to be collaborators in the streets. The videos are on social media and are barbaric. There are still very present monsters within as well as the external threat you talk of. I'm not convinced there can ever be a Gaza without Hamas so we'll find ourselves back here again. They'll poke the bear and Israel will do what it does.

Hamas are terrorists, like the IRA they need to be decommissioned and disbanded. The problem is they will have a fertile recruiting ground in a place where Israel have killed so many and caused so much suffering through their gratuitous cruelty.

I find it interesting that you and select others refuse to just admit that they have committed war crimes/human atrocities. It always comes back to Hamas, when others on here are capable of condemning what both have done.

As i said i don't spend much time in here now. When i browse i see people largely sticking to the thought path i'd expect them to given their politics. They'll occasionally give a little piece to make it sound like they are more rounded but generally its always what i expect to be quite honest.
I don't want anyone (who isn't a terrorist) to die, to be clear. I don't pretend to have all the answers like you lot though. I know the cycle will continue, it's how the region is and frankly i want the UK as uninvolved as possible, i want us to have no finger prints on it, no involvement and yes that includes selling arms to Israel. I don't want it.

Meh, better to care about something rather than nothing I think. I had resolved to care less about politics after Trump got in, we can all see how that went.

It’s just we’re at a very critical point in history and can’t really help myself commenting. The UK’s role in this is very small fry in any case, despite our ongoing arms sales to Israel.

You comment away if getting your thoughts on here helps you. It doesn't bother me. You know on the rare occasion i come back i'll disagree with you on 90% of it, which is also fine. I'm sure we agree Starmer is a spineless melt, perhaps for different reasons, but i think we're in a high majority of people that have hit that conclusion by now.

Two thirds of the country the last time it was polled, probably more now.

Who people vote for doesn’t make them wankers, wankers make themselves.

People will vote for what they feel is right. It's easy to get angry at people on a message board but most people are sound and those that aren't sound certainly don't all vote the same way.

What is clear is that Joe Public aren't buying what Starmer is shovelling.
