So what would you get for the Ukrainians or what demands would you make of the Russians if they were to get those regions?

Have you considered the possibility that the Ukrainian front line could collapse and they’d have to give up more territorial concessions?

Whatever issues Russia has, such as manpower, Ukraine is unfortunately in a worse state.

Zelenskyy has made a huge blunder in alienating Trump in the Oval Office. Europe does not have the capacity to fill the void left by the USA. The economic deal with the USA would probably have been a precursor to security guarantees, direct or indirect so there was just no need to press the issue in the Oval Office in front of the media.

By the way, it’s not just Trump who’s lost his temper with Zelenskyy… Pentagon officials had briefed that Biden lost his temper on a phone call where he and Zelenskyy were discussing military aid and Z kept pressing for more. There is a consistent theme of gratitude (or lack thereof) when it comes to Zelenskyy and military aid.

Without boots on the ground, the war remains a stalemate, at best. Ukraine holds some territory in Russia which (before the fiasco), Trump raised the possibility of land swaps for some occupied Ukrainian territory. If they lose that, they lose leverage.

Wonderful news.

The Russians appear to have decided to celebrate this 'wonderful news' by attacking more civilians with a drone strike on a Children's Hospital in Sumy.

I do appreciate there will be those who will feel that will be the Ukrainians own fault for previously peacefully moving towards freedom, democracy and self-determination and for not having a strong enough hand after they gave up their nuclear weapons after they believed now worthless american assurances.

Not if you know anything about the politics of the two countries or why Biden lost (hint: it wasn’t because he wasn’t left wing enough)

Really strange how the Democrats suddenly realised Biden was senile and installed Harris without going through the usual primary process.

She then proved unable to interview on TV at any length without being given a set of softball preset questions. Despite this gentle treatment she still had a tendancy to launch into a rambling and largely meaningless word salad. I don't think the American public had any idea what she might do in power.

There was a massive problem with the VA, with pensions etc. not being delivered and leaving many in dire financial straits or even destitute. Although far from fixed they employed a load of people to get try to speed the process up and it helped considerably.

Obviously Trump/Musk go the other way because it's 'needless bureaucracy'. It's only people not being able to afford to live without it.

That's sounds a bit like Truss. Mad ideas that she tried to implement far too quickly and fucked the country over. Even the Tories had the sense to get rid of her in about a month.

A man being invaded pressing other world leaders for more help in repelling the invaders shocker! It's literally his job.

Looking at it the other way. Trump and Zelensky discussing military aid and deals around achieving that. Trump kept pushing for more and Trump lost his temper.

Possibly by not violating the neutral zone in the first place, and not building bio labs in Ukraine. And not continuing the expansion of nato into Ukraine in violation of the 1994 weapons treaty. And not seeking to disrupt Russian shipping's access to shipping lanes that they need for trade.

All of this was mentioned by Putin before the conflict started, Biden was given ample warning what would happen if he ignored international agreements. Funny how western news failed to report this.

Now I'm no supporter of Putin, who is a dictator who sanctions murder on UK soil.
Bit if you poke the bear often enough, your going to get bitten.

Now the US has had a regime change, common sence is returning to the white house (strange to use that term when referring to Trump who's as mad as a box of frogs) so hopefully the killing will soon stop, and peace can return to the region,
probably under the pre-existing terms with Ukraine not joining the EU or Nato and Russia keeping hold of the areas they currently hold. While America opens mineral mines and gets contracts to rebuild the bombed cities, and getting rid of Zelensky and putting a new pro US government in office.

In the end the only real winner will be the US. With the land Russia holds being of little value other than securing access to the shipping lanes.

And to think, a lot of people died for that!
Ignoring some of the complete nonsense at the top, to suggest common sense has returned to the WH is a joke.

What you write after about peace returning to the region and the killing stopping is for the birds. Putin will not stop at that. He will re-arm and go again. So what happens at the point?

Musk who in fact benefits from $38 billion in US government contracts wants to complain about waste and abuse.

Musk who was caught changing a $400,000 Biden era contract into a $400 million one and trying to change the dates on the deal so it looked like Biden signed it off. That Musk wants to go on about fraud.

Not a single person has been charged for fraud due to the DOGE ‘discoveries’. The biggest fraudsters are in fact President Musk and VP Trump.

Also worried that Trump is going to interfere with the Championship play offs.
He is reportedly looking at releasing Ghislaine Maxwell, as she has lots of filth on him.
This is bound to boost the ex-Derby board member and scumbag fan, and inevitably give her team a boost. So if we lose to Derby it's down to fcuking Trump.

You haven’t watched the whole press conference. For 40 minutes it was cordial and Trump brushed off a couple of things that could’ve been interpreted as antagonistic. Then Zelenskyy and Vance had a spat that went out of control.

Vance definitely threw some hand grenades that escalated the dispute but frankly, he’d said nothing for about 40m.

Not in front of the cameras. They were there to sign an economic agreement, not rehash things in the public. If you’ve taken an approach which pisses the people off from your biggest benefactor, you’re not doing your job well. Many Americans have commented of Zelenskyy’s ‘ingratitude’ and ‘disrespect’ towards the USA outside of the administration.

If you’ve got American companies and workers mining in Ukraine, it’s an indirect security guarantee because invading that country puts US lives and economic interests at risk.

It’s Zelenskyy who’s been apologetic in the aftermath rather than the Trump administration which should tell you everything you need to know.

If invading Ukraine puts Russia into a confrontation with US personnel, how is that different to allowing Ukraine into NATO?

All the apology proves is the power imbalance, not who is actually in the wrong on what happened.
