There's a difference between detesting Trump and his government, and letting it take over your life to the point you cannot articulate or critique anything else without having a meltdown. Same with Russia and Ukraine. I don't think anyone on here has time for Russia or Putin whatsoever, but making any kind of negative comment about Ukraine sees toys get thrown out of the pram. That doesn't take away from the fact Russia started it and are essentially 'the bad guys'.

There are some really childish takes on this thread. However, most of the people that are looking at this realistically know that the only way to end the war is with some kind of concessions. That doesn't make anyone a Putin or Trump lover. That is just the reality of the bleak situation.

Yes, I would love for him to get assassinated. He deserves it. Realistically is it going to happen, or end the war? No.

I am not sure what that has to do with daily meltdowns about Trump, which you are one of the ring leaders of. They are childish as they are dramatic, and lack both perspective and reality most of the time. It is getting really boring coming onto this thread to see interactions which look as if they came off Reddit. If Trump is bothering you that much, turn off the tv and log off from the internet for a bit.

You don't think that the President of the US siding with a hostile war criminal is not a fairly dramatic development? Or not based on reality?

I mean the last 2 Presidents of the US have been siding with the genocidal war mongerer Netanyahu - can’t really have been that much of a shock can it?

Did Bannon just give a Nazi salute?
Do you think Trump will change US law to allow him to run for a third term?

Ok I’ll rephrase - You don't think that the President of the US siding with a long term adversary and hostile war criminal over long term allies in Europe is not a fairly dramatic development?

Not sure how you got that from what I had written, but clearly war criminals are not 'acceptable' in any form.

I knew that would get a like from Grendel. Like clockwork.

Probably, but I suspect it was another sick attempt at trolling. Likewise with Trump and talk of the law being changed.

I don't have time for any of it, but some of you lot start crying when Trump so much as sneezes, so I'm not really surprised they keep doing it.

He's certainly had a pop at Zelensky, but I don't think it is anything like what you think it is.

Your posts on the war come across as someone studying on BBC Bitesize to be quite honest.

It’s not in the top 10 of my priorities. But this is a critical juncture in world history whether you recognise it as one or not: it’s a genuinely big deal what’s going on.

He's siding with the aggressor and making Zelensky out to be the bad guy that started the war and Ukraine who has to pay all the reparations. It's absolutely ins.

He's said some stupid shit, like inferring that Ukraine started it, yes. I suspect this is a combination of having a personal pop at Zelensky, whilst simultaneously softening Putin up to gain some leverage - the key point that many people seem to be missing. He isn't sending tanks into Kyiv, or helping Russia conduct bombing raids on Lviv.

So your conclusion is that Ukraine has been invaded and blown to smithereens not because Putin wanted a land grab, but because of Joe Biden and Europe?

What a dreadful excuse of a take.

How did you get to that conclusion? Of course it’s a land grab because Putin and many Russians deny Ukraine is an independent entity and the breakup of Belarus and Ukraine was considered a disaster for ethnic Russians.

Onto the point about the war starting in the first place, Biden publicly saying Russia could ‘get away with a small scale operation’. That would have factored into Russian calculations as would have Europe’s dependence on Russian energy. We ignored the signs.

My take is that without a sudden collapse of the Putin regime or NATO intervention in the war, the war is not winnable for Ukraine. There isn’t the political will to do what is actually required to ‘win’ the war. Therefore, there needs to a palatable peace that even Zelensky was open too before the US election.

Of course, Ukraine could carry on fighting if they choose to reject a peace deal brokered in bad faith. After all, the Afghan war did help precipitate the downfall of the USSR and that was a war fought along unconventional lines.

To do that, you’d need to change the constitution which requires a supermajority (66%) in congress… this is just fear mongering.

No he's not doing that, of course. But he is handing parts of a sovereign nation to a hostile invader with absolutely no penalty or concessions, in fact the opposite - he's making the invaded nation pay for it.

You're talking as if Trump and co. respect the constitution and due process when their actions suggest the opposite. It's just a case of finding a pretence for it.

The Supreme Court declared the president to be above the law and the man himself threatens any judge who rules against him. If he simply refuses to leave office who will make him leave? Nobody.
