I don't really care who rebuilds it, it would be nice if Russia footed the bill though, but that's bit going to happen now.

You are comfortable with there being no Ukraine left to rebuild though, that's where we differ.

Then if Europe has that resolve it can fund the fight without the US

I would like to see a negotiated settlement which isn’t so lopsided or restrictive so as to be unsustainable, or likely to cause further misery and suffering for those caught on the wrong side of the conflict. Opposing that kind of settlement simply isn’t the same as actively wanting more death - that’s what negotiation is for.

I thought Zelensky was still saying he would not agree to hand over any land to Russia - I can't see anywhere he has agreed even to cede Crimea - so how is that going to ever work?

Well they can - it will cost billions more a year so I guess with our Black Hole sacrifices at home will have to be made. Who you put first I suppose.

US President Trump: I think Putin wants to stop fighting. I see that. They [Russia] have a big, powerful machine, you understand that. They defeated Hitler and they defeated Napoleon. They've been fighting for a long time, they've done it before.

It's all a mirage, the only thing POTUS is interested in is further enriching a very wealthy minority. Trump is just a lot more overt about it.

I don’t know, any more than you know how the Putin-Trump deal is ever going to work. Again, that’s what negotiation is for. You asked what I wanted to happen - that’s my answer.

The Trump Putin deal is irrelevant if Europe and the UK decide they wish to continue to support the war against Russia and supply all the arms required.

Would you want that?

I most certainly would not.

The Trump-Putin deal is also irrelevant if it turns out to be an unsustainable fait accompli that doesn’t secure the region’s long-term stability.

Until I see otherwise I wouldn’t ‘want’ either of the scenarios you lay out above, but I would note that only one of them leaves an avenue open to my preferred outcome.

I'll be honest Pete, it sucks for Ukraine but if it means stopping the bloodshed and losing some land, Zelenski needs to take the hit (should have dealt when they were on the front foot, forget the Crimea). The bigger picture for the rest of us is keeping the Yanks in NATO. I hope this is just Trump and his crowd swaggering to get everyone (and rightly without bankrupting ourselves) to stump up a fair share. Rather have Trump and his $trillions of troops and nukes in our corner than relying on ourselves and the French as the ultimate deterrent.

They're going to have to I think. Very little choice to do anything but cede it.

Churchill was many things, plenty of them not very good, but an appeaser he was not. Have a look at his 'total and unmitigated defeat' speech if you want his thoughts on appeasement.

I'd love an end to the hideous bloodshed and death.

But it needs to be one that doesn't reward an appalling tyrant and war criminal for trying to usurp a sovereign European government.

Your orange hero is kissing Putin's arse mate, and you're lapping it up because y'know owning the libs is all that matters.

When you get a chance Google "appeasement', and let us know how it worked out later in terms of hideous bloodshed and death.

And quit pretending you give a fuck about it anyway, you're only angry and upset because people are being rude about Trump - you couldn't give a toss about Ukraine.

If Trump turned around tomorrow and demanded a free Ukraine and Russia to back off half this thread would have their faces painted yellow and blue before the press conference is finished.

Maybe we should all pretend we love tax cuts for billionaires and shit public services

More about that Washington Helicopter/Plane tragedy. Turns out there is a severe staffing shortage of Air Traffic Controllers and there had been calls to move the Helicopter corridor to a safer area..

The deadly D.C. crash was years in the making - with five close calls in 2024 alone

Complaints about the air space around Reagan, a shortage of air traffic controllers, and communications issues have persisted for years, reports suggest

I count myself as being more on the right of the political spectrum but the orange balloon is just an absolute fucking idiot.
Anyone who thinks that the problem in Gaza can be solved by opening a trump holiday resort is both ignorant and more deluded than the majority of people he supposedly represents (and that takes some doing).
How on earth can he think that he can get an agreement on a ceasefire without Ukraine even being there?
Putin clearly has some sort of hold over him, he’s like a doe eyed puppy when it comes to all things Russia.
