If he ends the war by giving Putin what he wants, then clearly that is a bad thing.

It’s pretty obvious that Russia will keep the current territory and will probably get back those that Ukraine currently hold in Russia. The idea that negotiations would only begin when Ukraine chose to was never going to happen.

There’s also no chance of Ukraine joining NATO.

Then there's zero to stop Putin going back in for more when he chooses.

I don't care who it is who brings about any kind of peace, if it's Trump , then great, but I do reckon Putin will have Trump wrapped around his little finger

This is the guy who thinks he can buy countries and relocate a whole nation in a different country that doesn't want them.

It's all but 100% certain that Russia sees Trump as some kind of clueless idiot.

I think most view Puti in the same light, the difference being he's less accountable and therefore more dangerous.

I think at the moment both sides have some totally non negotiable red lines that the other side will not be willing to meet, so I have no idea what a deal will look like at this stage.

Bad for Ukrainian people who don't want to live in Russia.

Bad for Ukrainian people who will be next on the front line when Putin decides to go again.

Bad for the people who will continue to die as a result of insurgent and guerilla activities.

To name a few.

Yes that'll probably be the starting point!

Trump, surprisingly, seems to be unwilling to totally abandon Ukraine though from some bits I have read. But fuck knows what that man child is thinking (other than whatever will give him the most glory and the most personal gain).

How many do you think then? I think there have been at least 2 million dead and injured in the 3 years it's been going on but only a proportion of that actually deaths. Trump always exaggerates as do most politicians, just allow for it.

Surprised it was that many. Last estimate I heard was 100,000 Russian troops.

What this situation required was the new president to be strong, and not bow to an aggressor, but what do we get, a brainless orange buffoon whose every sentance he spouts makes him look a brainless twat. It’s so embarrassing to hear him speak, Great past presidents, great orators, like JFK, Reagan must be turning in their graves the moment that orangutan opens his mouth.
So as we thought he is a lapdog of Putin, and he’s shows it everyday.
Absolute dog shit, and America is a laughing stock, yet again. Did you see that circus the other day with musk in an overcoat and a baseball cap, speaking in front of supposedly the leader of the free world, show some respect you tool and take off that shit, would JFK and Reagan put up with that crap, no is the answer. He looked like the boy from the hood.
God I despise that orangutan so much.
I’m not even going to mention Starmer, what a fucking joke this bloke looks on the world stage, yet another country with past strong leaders , who are left with the leftovers.
The world is a mess, the worst in my lifetime and I’m over 60

Here he is boldly declaring to remove that well known evil government department, the Education Department. The people's champion taking funding away from SEN kids.

Didn’t realise the geopolitical heavyweights had stepped in!

Ukraine joining NATO seems inevitable to me one day. Not while there’s a Republican in the White House, obviously.

The US will never want it whoever is in charge. The one thing Trump has been consistent on is the fact countries do not spend the target % of GDP on defence and unless they do he will pull out of it.

It seems certain there will be a deal struck with Putin soon on Ukraine and Zelensky will have no say.

Sad, but probably true.

The main worry for me, is not the disputes over certain regions with Ukraine and Crimea etc, but the fact that Putin doesn't even recognise Ukraine as a country and says it should be Russian. He says the whole country should belong to Russia.

You have to think he feels the same about the other breakaway states that gained independence in the 1990's.

This is why I don't think he will stop if the map is now redrawn slightly and Russian does gain some pockets of area.

I don't think it will be the end.

Well supposedly Biden was warming to the idea and he was president less than a month ago. The rest of NATO seems very amenable to the idea and if Ukraine also wanted to join then it would be a mistake to stop them, no?

A truce “deal” that one of the two combatants has no say over does not seem like a very satisfactory or sustainable outcome.

It will be like the Gaza ‘deal’ that Israel is allowed to violate at will on the basis that if Hamas responds then the killing can resume.
