It’s possible that there is a very, very big difference between me and Trump. Also a very, very big difference in the circumstances in which Trump and I have commented.

Backlash came swiftly after Trump blamed DC plane crash on DEI

As the nation reeled from the deadliest American aviation disaster in more than two decades, President Donald Trump on Thursday baselessly blamed diversity initiatives for undermining air safety.
apnews.com

Im surprised there has been a backlash. The Americans knew what they would be getting, yet still elected him.

It's mad that the President of the US can stand up and say its 'common sense' that non-white and disabled people are to blame for this accident. And that it's 'common sense' that they are intellectually inferior.

That's bad enough on its own, even worse is people (including on here) saying 'you know what he's right'

He did not say that at all. He blamed lowered standards because entry requirements were changed from rigorous technical examinations so that the first step of the hiring process used a 'biographical questionnaire' to screen potential employees in an attempt to diversify the workforce which effectively excluded many of the best candidates, that is an issue that's been going on since Obamas time.

He has already robbed people of cancer treatment, food stamps and Medicaid while pledging to continue arming Israel. The people’s champion.

Does kind of raise the question why didn't he sort this glaring obvious problem the last time he was president

Sorry, I omitted that he said he did return to the old system and Biden reversed his decision.

I haven't checked if his comments are accurate but he definitely said that in a recent clip after the accident.

He also said he would lower medicine prices. One of his first executive order repeals increased the costs.

Think there's a lot more to this than we're being told, isn't there always. Might look into it more when I have more time as it's pretty interesting stuff and certainly not as straightforward as Trump is making it seem.
A new programme was established in 2019, during Trump's first term in office, seeking to give people with disabilities a pathway to work in air traffic operations.
Also seen it suggested by the outgoing secretary of transportation that upon taking office Trump immediately fired or suspedened key personal with no replacements. While I would doubt that would directly result in this tragedy it does give the impression he's just doing whatever he feels like with no real assessment of the consequences.

As always seems the way nowadays its hard to work out whether what you're reading that is being presented as fact is actually true and can in any way be backed up rather than some outlandish claim from either side of the political spectrum.

My office used to be in the air traffic control tower and anyone that thinks getting a job in ATC requires you to be the best of the best is kidding themselves. You need a handful of GCSEs!

What you do need though is training and regular testing to make sure you're up to the job. Not sure I buy in to the idea that ATC in the US is a free for all and anyone in a minority can just turn up and give it a go.

People only give a shit about safety when there's an incident. Look at the rail strikes here, numerous posts that there shouldn't be strikes which would have meant waving through the lowering of safety standards.
Is re starting a break when a manager speaks to you 5 minutes before the end of it a lowering of safety standards?

Do people with intellectual disabilities all have a handful of G.C.S.Es?

ATC is a stressful job. Are people with a handful of G.CSEs and mental health issues the best candidates?

He has quite deliberately set out to either fire vast swathes of the government, or to replace everyone who works for it with MAGA or Trump loyalists instead of on merit. Of course not the mark of a fascist, I wouldn't presume to suggest that.

It is a bizarre take on the bible
What I’ve realised though is my faith is very different to many of my fellow Christian’s in the USA
Jesus humanised god and they would accuse us of domesticating Jesus and I would accuse them of allowing Jesus to be hijacked by nationalism
They believe they act for Jesus by judging those around them I believe we act for Jesus by showing mercy not judgement
Thatcher said similar back in the day we can’t help others if we haven’t got anything ourselves

I would say I don’t know where Vance gets his gospel from about Jesus

I believe Jesus showed gods nature by dying to show how much he loves us

they believe Jesus as the Victor who needs fighting for and his kingdom is seen on this world in power and blessing mainly through money and influence

I think it’s a false gospel but who am I?

What’s your thoughts

There’s nothing about concentric circles in fact I think Vance may well get a huge shock
The story of the lost coin
The parable not story sorry of the lost sheep
It seems if Jesus has favourites they are those that the world doesn’t love
Vance is a twat

So, in your world it is fine to preferentially recruit people in a discriminatory fashion because they are non white, but not to preferentially employ people based on their alignment with your 5 year plan.

For clarity, I think positive discrimination in favour of non - whites is actual racist discrimination against white people.

I have long thought that American Christianity seems over intense and aggressive whilst at the same time pretty “fake and for appearances.” How else can their Gun Laws have not been radically tightened up?

So, totally agree.

I think thats ONLY if two candidates have proven equally qualified and able as each other at that point it may be acceptable to prefer a candidate who is from a section of society that is underrepresented or even persecuted.

Whereas Trump ability is never even close to being a factor at all. It is literally just people who will back him vociferously and will do what he tells them - those are the only qualifying criteria. And that's to run every aspect of the most powerful country in the world.

It’s an interesting challenge that I’ve read lots about and have always come down on one little verse in Micah

What does God require?

act justly
Love mercy
Walk humbly

That’s it

It is also a fact that Jesus is always on the side of the oppressed not the oppressor so what does that mean?

How different would the world be with this kind of Christian faith would it even still exist?
I think so but it would be so subversive

It wouldn’t kill to exist it would die to exist it’s topsy turvey

It refuses to take advantage thats not earned
It gives away all its money to help others
It puts weapons down in a fight

How would that work? I don’t know cause we’ve not tried it beyond 300 years after he died other than in individuals and groups lives

There’s also many many right thinking people who are xians that belive and live out charity begins at home and you do what you can in coveys circle of influence to impact your world

So I don’t think Vance is wrong in his thoughts it’s when that plays out in a political way it becomes monstrous as we’ve seen before and we’ll see again across all religions or ism

Well this basically shows Trump to be talking a load of shit (surprise surprise).

- an initiative to increase diversity in the FAA and train disabled people to be air traffic controllers was introduced during his first term
- candidates aren't just given a job for being black or disabled, they still have to go through the same selection process and training

Fact-checking Trump's claims about diversity schemes and the Washington plane crash

He told a news conference that diversity hiring efforts at the Federal Aviation Administration may have led to safety issues.
